Ham and Cheese Waffle

(Leftover) Ham and Cheese Waffle

If you are like my family (which is highly unlikely) you have a spiral ham for New Years.  I personally like spiral ham.  It occurred to me that I’ve never made a savory ham and cheese waffle, though I’ve done bacon…so why not do ham too.  (but not spam).

Ham and Cheese Waffle Ingredients:

1 cup chopped ham

½ cup cheese (I prefer cheddar)

½ cup flour (wheat flour, all-purpose flour, whatever you prefer)

1 egg (or 1/4 cup egg whites)

1 tsp baking powder

1 tablespoon oil

½-1 cup milk or water depending on what you like

Spices I added: cinnamon

Ham and Cheese Waffle Recipe:

  1. Preheat a waffle maker
  2. Mix all dry ingredients together in a large bowl
  3. Add wet ingredients together (including the cheese) and mix in a separate mixing medium bowl.
  4. Add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients.
  5. Pour into waffle iron and cook until golden brown.
  6. After cooked, put your ham and cheese waffle on a plate and add a layer of melted butter, maple syrup, greek yogurt, and more ham if you prefer!
  7. Some people prefer to serve their ham and cheese waffles with lemon zest, lemon juice, or fresh dill.

Savory waffles have become a staple for me lately! Plus a ham and cheese waffle is the perfect way to use ham and cheese from the holidays. Or extra ham and cheese you might have in your house.

Question for you:

What is your favorite waffle combination? Do you prefer light and fluffy pancakes or waffles warm? Have you tried a ham and cheese waffle?

  1. I’m not personally a ham person but I love that you’ve been making savory waffles. I think I need to start mixing up the standard pancake recipes and try something new. Maybe the herb ones you made awhile back?

  2. We don’t do a New Year’s dinner.

Love how you create new stuff. Something I hope to one day be able to do…find stuff in the kitchen and throw it together for a tasty meal.

    1. LOL, I normally don’t create anything new. I’m not creative in the kitchen at all…I guess pancakes are in the kitchen but not with any other meal for real! LOL

  3. You know me and the waffles. I have been going on a dessert waffle run lately. I made Black Forest Cake and Apple Pie waffles recently. This week I am going to try my hand at Carrot Cake waffles.

Is there nothing you can put in a waffle that won’t taste great?

  4. Seriously loving the waffle recipes!! Savory waffles can be the most satisfying meal ever. Especially if cheese is involved 😉

  5. Aaaaaand now I’m hungry. I’ve never done ham and cheese waffles, but I’ve done parm cheese with spinach and was kind of smitten. Remind me again why I don’t make savory waffles more often? Ahh yes… because I got lazy in the kitchen 🙁

  6. Savory waffles sound awesome. I say that every time someone posts a recipe for them. I definitely have to get around to actually trying them sometime!

  7. Mmmmm! I like ham too! New Years day dinner? Usually we are too lazy/tired from the night before to make anything. New Years eve we don’t have any traditional dinners either.

  8. PS, I like your new shiny background…it has been a while since I have read blogs on a computer versus my phone so I can actually see what their blogs look like, yay!

  9. I never make savory waffles or pancakes, and I need to give them a shot! We have ham on Easter (which is pretty standard, right?), and on New Year’s we ate a ton of appetizers and soups.

  10. ham and chicken, two meats that actually go pretty well with sweet! Can’t say I’m a ham fan, but this is a great idea for a waffle. I mean, I’d expect nothing less from you 😛 I’m looking forward to the Hawaiian Waffle recipe, I’m a HUGE fan of the pizza version!

  11. i would LOVE this waffle. as would my dad we are big hot ham and cheese fans. so on a waffle- even better! 🙂

  12. Ohhh yeahhh, that looks delic! Sweet + savory / salty + sweet is my favorite combo 🙂 We get a Honey Baked Ham usually once or twice a year and I love serving leftovers with applesauce!

  13. This reminds me of the ham and cheese savoury crepes you can get in France. So good! And I got a wafflemaker for Christmas, yay!! Definitely trying this 🙂

  14. Um that omelet was AMAZING! I cannot wait for the ham and pineapple combo coming! I also cannot wait to try this 😀 Because ham is one of my favorites as of like November haha
