If you are like my family (which is highly unlikely) you have a spiral ham for New Years. I personally love ham (another reason I couldn’t be a vegetarian). It occurred to me that I’ve never made a savory ham and cheese waffle, though I’ve done bacon…so why not do ham too. (but not spam).
Ingredients: (for one person)
1 cup shredded ham (that is about what I took anyways)
½ cup cheese (I chose cheddar but there are many options here)
½ cup flour
1 egg
1 tsp baking powder
1 tablespoon oil
½-1 cup milk or water depending on what you like
Spices I added: cinnamon
Directions:
- Mix wet ingredients together then stir in oil.
- Add in dry ingredients and mix well adding more water/milk if necessary.
- Last add the ham and cheese.
- Add to waffle maker or cook on griddle.
I know that probably sounds pretty ham+cinnamon but in my house we use a ham glaze which is sweet and paired with savory ham is actually quite good. I do enjoy savory waffles personally.
After having breakfast with Shannon last week, I thought about a ham and pineapple (ie:Hawaiian combination) that will be coming to you guys shortly.
Question for you:
- 1. What is your favorite pancake combination?
- 2. What do you have for New Year’s Dinner?

Do you deliver? 😀
For you, of course!
oo those looks amaaaazing
I’m not personally a ham person but I love that you’ve been making savory waffles. I think I need to start mixing up the standard pancake recipes and try something new. Maybe the herb ones you made awhile back?
We don’t do a New Year’s dinner.
Love how you create new stuff. Something I hope to one day be able to do…find stuff in the kitchen and throw it together for a tasty meal.
LOL, I normally don’t create anything new. I’m not creative in the kitchen at all…I guess pancakes are in the kitchen but not with any other meal for real! LOL
OM NOM!
You know me and the waffles. I have been going on a dessert waffle run lately. I made Black Forest Cake and Apple Pie waffles recently. This week I am going to try my hand at Carrot Cake waffles.
Is there nothing you can put in a waffle that won’t taste great?
I’ll get back to you if I figure out one that can’t. Do you have a link to the black forest cake, that sounds amazing!
Here you go. Thanks for asking for the recipe.

Seriously loving the waffle recipes!! Savory waffles can be the most satisfying meal ever. Especially if cheese is involved
Ham and pineapple omelets are thebomb.com #justsaying
My cousin would prob die over this lol she is such a huge ham lover
Aaaaaand now I’m hungry. I’ve never done ham and cheese waffles, but I’ve done parm cheese with spinach and was kind of smitten. Remind me again why I don’t make savory waffles more often? Ahh yes… because I got lazy in the kitchen
If it makes you feel better, I don’t post recipes that take me more then 15 minutes total time cooking LOL!
mmm fluffy savory waffly goodness.
Savory waffles sound awesome. I say that every time someone posts a recipe for them. I definitely have to get around to actually trying them sometime!
I’m forwarding this to my mom as we speak…:D Thanks girl!
Mmmmm! I like ham too! New Years day dinner? Usually we are too lazy/tired from the night before to make anything. New Years eve we don’t have any traditional dinners either.
PS, I like your new shiny background…it has been a while since I have read blogs on a computer versus my phone so I can actually see what their blogs look like, yay!
I never make savory waffles or pancakes, and I need to give them a shot! We have ham on Easter (which is pretty standard, right?), and on New Year’s we ate a ton of appetizers and soups.
I love the sweet and savory flavor combo
ham and chicken, two meats that actually go pretty well with sweet! Can’t say I’m a ham fan, but this is a great idea for a waffle. I mean, I’d expect nothing less from you
I’m looking forward to the Hawaiian Waffle recipe, I’m a HUGE fan of the pizza version!
i would LOVE this waffle. as would my dad we are big hot ham and cheese fans. so on a waffle- even better!
I’ve made a ham & cheese waffle before, and have to say… they are quite amazing!!!!
Ohhh yeahhh, that looks delic! Sweet + savory / salty + sweet is my favorite combo
We get a Honey Baked Ham usually once or twice a year and I love serving leftovers with applesauce!
This reminds me of the ham and cheese savoury crepes you can get in France. So good! And I got a wafflemaker for Christmas, yay!! Definitely trying this
my favorite pancake would have to be blueberry. i know, it’s exciting.
Better then buttermilk LOL
oh. my. goodness. Mind. Blown. What a fun idea!
Um that omelet was AMAZING! I cannot wait for the ham and pineapple combo coming! I also cannot wait to try this
Because ham is one of my favorites as of like November haha
