It’s hard to think about summer running and being dehydrated right now, but I was excited to try the Saltstick Drinkmix. I’m already a huge fan of the SaltStick FastChews, and I have one daily in the summertime before runs. Why? I live in the Mojave Desert, and even the thought of running outdoors makes me dehydrated.
About the brand SaltStick:
SaltSick was born over 15 years ago when Jonathan Toker, Ph.D., an elite triathlete and ultrarunner was looking for ways to better meet the electrolyte needs of athletes during training and races. SaltStick products are made in the USA at an FDA-inspected cGMP facility. They contain only what you need, and there are no traces of herbal, trace, or questionable components. SaltStick products are regularly tested for banned substances under the Informed-Choice program.
Products undergo a rigorous, accredited four-step certification and testing process, providing athletes with the highest assurance. You can learn more about that here.
About the SaltStick DrinkMix:
Is it SaltStick DrinkMix or Salt Stick Drink Mix? It’s actually SaltStick DrinkMix. I can appreciate that because my blog is just FueledbyLOLZ not Fueled by lolz. I digress, but naming is important.
The SaltStick DrinkMix is a no-sugar drink mix powder ready to mix into your water. It replaces the electrolytes lost in sweat, and the formula relies on cleanly sourced, buffered ingredients to help reduce heat stress and muscle cramping due to dehydration. Finally, their formula also helps avoid stomach distress!

My Experience with SaltStick DrinkMix:
Thankfully the weather in the Mojave Desert is not hot yet. In January, it’s freezing (who knew the desert gets to be 20 degrees?). But electrolytes are still crucial in the winter. Sometimes we forget that!
I tried all three flavors, and the SaltStick DrinkMix Tropical Mango was my favorite, as expected. I can never say no to mango flavors. Each of the flavors tastes good and is pretty sweet. If you’ve tried the SaltStick FastChews, you know how strong those flavors are. The DrinkMix has equally as strong of flavors, just in a drinkable way. I happen to like sweeter products but I do warn you, if you’re not someone who wants a strong flavor while working out, SaltStick might not be right for you.
I notice a difference when using the SaltStick DrinkMix, especially during long runs and workouts. Right now, it’s probably going to become my go-to for longer runs and activities because. I can have it with Maurten gels and get the necessary electrolytes and calories in Maurten. Since marathon training, I’ve been focusing on bringing the proper electrolytes and fueling during long runs (not that you shouldn’t at all times), but this makes it essential for marathons.
Cost: 12 for $19.99
The SaltStick DrinkMix is not cheap and is yet another thing to buy for runs, but electrolytes are essential. Can you find something more affordable AMostelectrolyte mixes?
SaltStick DrinkMix Conclusion:
I like the SaltStick DrinkMix and am a big fan of the taste and flavor. I know it works, and it tastes good. While expensive, I would instead use something I like versus something cheaper that I don’t like as much. The SaltStick DrinkMix might be too much for you if you don’t enjoy stronger flavored beverages.
