Best Running Shoes in 2026

Are you looking for the best running shoes in 2026?

Every year, running shoes get more confusing. More foam. More plates. More super trainers. More “daily trainers” that cost over $200…Yes, back in my day you could get a good daily trainer for $100…but that’s not now…

I review a lot of running shoes, and 2026 has already had several strong options. This list only includes shoes reviewed on FueledbyLOLZ in 2026. That means I am not pulling random shoes from the internet just because they are popular. These are shoes I have actually written about, run in, and compared.

What are the Best Running Shoes in 2026?

The best running shoe is the one that works for you. It might not be the most popular but it’s the one that fits your foot well and keeps you injury free. If you’re looking for the best running shoe, consider getting fit at a locally owned running store. They can take a look at your feet and see what options will work.

Here are the top running shoes in 2026 so far.

best running shoes in 2026

Best Daily Trainer: Salomon Aero Glide 4

The Salomon Aero Glide 4 is cushioned, protective, predictable, and good for stacking miles. The best daily trainers are not super exciting or glamorous, but they keep you healthy.

A daily trainer should be the shoe you trust for most of your weekly running. Easy runs, long aerobic runs, steady miles, and just the daily grind. The Aero Glide 4 does that well. The updated upper fits better than previous versions, the ride feels consistent, and the outsole has held up well.

It is not the shoe I would pick for track workouts or race day, but that is not what it is built for. It is one of the best running shoes in 2026 because it’s a great daily trainer.

Best for: daily mileage, easy runs, long aerobic runs, runners who want a reliable neutral trainer.

Best Daily Trainer: Mizuno Wave Rider 30:

Can you have two best daily trainers of 2026? Of course…this is my blog and I choose…LOL but for real,. The Mizuno Wave Rider 30 is the Mizuno daily trainer I would include for best running shoes in 2026. It has a taller stack than past versions, an 8 mm drop, a full-length Wave Plate, and MIZUNO ENERZY NXT foam underfoot. It still has that structured Mizuno ride, but now with more cushion for daily mileage and long runs.

It is best for runners who want a neutral trainer that feels stable, protective, and durable without going into super shoe territory. I would not use it for race day or faster workouts, but it fits well as the dependable shoe in a rotation.

Best for: Daily runs, easy runs, long runs, and runners who like a structured neutral trainer.

Best Max-Cushion Daily Trainer: On Cloudmonster 3

The On Cloudmonster 3 is a max-cushioned shoe. On shoes can be polarizing, and the Cloudmonster line has always had a firmer feel than some other max-stack trainers.

The Cloudmonster 3 is cushioned, but it is not mushy. It is best for easy runs, long runs, and runners who want protection from the road without feeling like they are sinking into the shoe.

The durability is strong, and the ride is smooth enough for regular mileage.

Best for: runners who want max cushion without a super soft ride.

Best Super Trainer: Hoka Skyward X 2

The Hoka Skyward X 2 is Hoka’s max-cushioned, carbon-plated super trainer. It uses PEBA foam, super-critically foamed EVA, and a carbon fiber plate, but it is not trying to be a race shoe.

This is a long-run and recovery-run shoe with a lot of protection. It feels best for easy runs, steady mileage, and long runs where your legs feel tired and you want something that rolls along without beating you up.

The fit is very Hoka, so runners with narrow to average-width feet will have the easiest time. The breathability is not the best, which is something to think about if you run in hot places like the Mojave Desert. At $225, it is expensive, but for runners who like plated trainers, it fills a useful role.

Best for: long runs, recovery runs, marathon training, high-stack trainer fans.

Although this shoe does look like a purple dinosaur…LOL

Best Long-Run Workout Shoe: Topo Specter 3

The Topo Specter 3 is one of the more interesting long-run and workout shoes of 2026. Topo tends to do well for runners who want more room in the toe box without feeling like the shoe is sloppy through the midfoot.

The Specter 3 fits best as a long-run shoe that can also handle pace changes. It has more training range than a simple daily trainer and more comfort than many aggressive workout shoes.

I like it most for longer progression runs, steady efforts, and days where I want a shoe that can move without feeling like a race-day-only option.

Best for: long runs with pace, steady workouts, runners who like more room in the toe box.

Best Carbon-Plated Race Shoe: Saucony Endorphin Pro 5

The Saucony Endorphin Pro 5 is not the wildest super shoe of 2026. It is stable, smooth, breathable, and fast enough for half marathon and marathon racing.

The Endorphin Pro 5 feels more controlled than some aggressive carbon-plated racing shoes. It can be a good option for those who want a carbon plate option without it being too aggressive.

The outsole is also a good update. Saucony added PWRTRAC rubber, which helps with traction and durability. I would still save it for workouts and race day because it is a $240 carbon shoe, but it should hold up better than some fragile racers.

Best for: half marathons, marathons, long workouts, runners who want a stable carbon-plated racer.

Best Aggressive Race Shoe: Hoka Cielo X1 3.0

The Hoka Cielo X1 3.0 is the race shoe for runners who want something fast, light, and aggressive. I was happy to see Hoka make this a strong contender for racing. I could have put it on the best running shoes in 2026 as the best updated as well.

A lot of super shoes get lighter by becoming uncomfortable. The Cielo X1 3.0 manages to feel fast without feeling overly stripped down. The fit is better than I expected, and the outsole is more practical than many race shoes.

Like most carbon-plated shoes, I would not use it for daily mileage. It belongs in the race-day and key-workout category.

Best for: racing, speedwork, runners who want a fast Hoka race shoe.

Best Stability Shoe: Diadora Mythos Blushield Vigore V

The Diadora Mythos Blushield Vigore V is one of the more interesting stability shoes of 2026 because it does not feel like an old-school brick.

Stability shoes have changed a lot. Instead of feeling heavy and clunky, many are now smoother and more comfortable while still offering support. The Vigore V uses Diadora’s TRX system to help reduce overpronation and Blushield N2 to help with balance through the gait cycle.

It is a good option for runners who want a supportive daily trainer that can handle easy runs and long runs without feeling overly bulky.

Best for: overpronation support, daily mileage, long runs, runners who want stability without a harsh ride.

Best Treadmill and Gym Shoe: Reebok FloatZig Tread

The Reebok FloatZig Tread is one of the few shoes designed specifically for treadmill running, and I appreciate that Reebok actually thought about indoor miles. If you know me, you know I like the treadmill and think it’s a great tool so of course we need a good treadmill shoe in the best running shoes in 2026. (And yes, you can use your usual shoes on the treadmill too).

The FloatZig Tread has an 8 mm drop, a lower 28 mm stack, and stability features that make it useful for treadmill running, incline walks, and gym crossover. It feels controlled during pace changes and does not have the wobbly feeling that some high-stack shoes can have indoors. It is also $110, which is almost shocking in 2026 running shoe pricing.

Best for: treadmill running, incline walking, gym workouts, hybrid treadmill and strength days.

Best Lower-Drop Daily Trainer: Altra Experience Flow 3

The Altra Experience Flow 3 is one of the easiest Altra shoes to recommend in best running shoes in 2026 because it gives you a lower-drop ride without going fully zero-drop.

The 4 mm drop makes it more approachable for runners who are curious about Altra but are not ready to go zero drop. The toe box has more room than many traditional shoes, but it does not feel oversized.

Best for: lower-drop daily training, easy runs, runners who want more room in the toe box.

Best Trail Shoe: Merrell Agility Peak 6

The Merrell Agility Peak 6 is a strong trail shoe for runners who want protection and comfort without feeling like they are wearing a hiking boot.

Merrell knows trail, and the Agility Peak 6 feels like a trail shoe built for a wide range of terrain. It has enough cushioning for longer trail runs, enough traction for dirt and uneven ground, and enough comfort to not feel punishing.

For desert trails, rocky terrain, and regular trail mileage, it is one of the best running shoes in 2026.

Best for: trail running, longer trail efforts, dirt, rocks, and runners who want a protective trail shoe.

Best Road-to-Trail Race Shoe: On Cloudultra Pro

The On Cloudultra Pro is On’s race-focused ultra trail shoe, and it works best for runners who want something faster for dirt roads, gravel, and mixed terrain.

It is not a rugged mountain shoe for every technical trail. It works better when the terrain is runnable. Think gravel, dirt roads, smoother trails, and road-to-trail routes where you do not want an overly aggressive outsole.

As with most high-end trail racers, I would save it for long runs and races rather than burning through it on casual mileage.

Best for: runnable trails, gravel, dirt roads, ultra races, road-to-trail routes.

Best Running Shoes in 2026: How to Choose

The best running shoe in 2026 depends on what you need it to do. The best daily trainer is not always the best race shoe. The best race shoe is not always the best long-run shoe. The best trail shoe might feel terrible on the road. Plus, I cannot say it enough but what works for me…may not work for you!

For most runners, I would build a rotation with three shoes: a daily trainer, a workout or long-run shoe, and a race shoe if you race often. You can read more about that in how alternating running shoes can help your running.

Best Running Shoes in 2026 Conclusion

There is no single best running shoe in 2026 for every runner, which is annoying but true. Some runners want cushion…Some want speed…Some need stability. Every one has different needs.
