April Training: Snow to 90

It’s hard to believe another month has gone by.  April wasn’t my best, or even second best month of the year, but it was a lot better than last April.

I had two goals for April and I met both of them:

  1. Finish the April Fools Half (mentally) healthy
  2. Not Burn out in April like 2017

So while I didn’t log any extremely fast times or workouts, I also didn’t burn out and that is far ahead of where I was last year.

Miles Run: Around 200
Rest Days: 6

Thoughts:

As I mentioned, nothing was exceptionally fast and I’m okay with that!  I’m running healthy and that is what matters.  As most people know, I took a nasty fall during the April Fools Half (I collided with a spectator cutting across the course).  I got an X-ray to confirm I didn’t break anything but it took about 2 weeks to feel good again.  It actually hurt the most while sitting.  Luckily by the end of the month, I felt much better.

It’s funny to look back at photos and realize there was a lot going on, weather wise.  In the beginning of the month we had snow and we ended with 90 degrees!

In May, I’ll be traveling a lot.  It’s going to be a busy but fun month.  My goal for the summer months is just enjoying running.  This summer, I would like to get to local tracks more since students won’t be in school.  After Broad Street on Sunday, I don’t have any big goal races of the summer.

  1. Glad to hear this April is an improvement from April 2017!

April 2018 was big for me, I started working full time at my first big girl grown up job as a counselor at a mental health treatment program and I ran a grand total of 3 miles for the month which is awesome considering I am coming back from an achilles injury that kept my mileage at ZERO for 5 months! I feel rejuvenated and have fallen back in love with running but I’m being very smart about my return, I learned a lot from my injury! Right now I only run a short easy distance 3x a week!

My summer goal is to continue my return to running slowly and safely. I just want to be healthy and happy! Right now running is just a bonus in my life, I have other things going on like working and living life!

  2. Glad to hear you had a good April and feeling good going into the summer months ^.^ Sometimes it’s nice to not have anything major upcoming!

Training has been going well for me though I’ve been getting worried for my upcoming marathon at the end of this month. April treated me well with a new PR for 13.1 and our relay placing 3rd the following weekend.

Going to be a bit before ‘summer’ starts for me given my full at the end of the month, but I’m excited to visit some friends and get some real rest weeks in from running. I’m starting to feel gassed but this training cycle has been so strong for me I’m super excited for how I can build off it going into fall.
