Route 130 Diner (Delran)

A couple of weeks ago, my friend Eric and I visited the Route 130 Diner in Delran.  Eric is a fast local runner who is a good friend.  We originally met through work, and he trains with some of my faster coworkers.

I’m always skeptical of diners that are within 20 minutes of my house that I haven’t been too.  At this point, I’ve been to most, if not all of the diners that have been recommended by friends.  I’ve steered clear of local diners that people have told me are not great.  I hadn’t heard much about the Route 130 Diner in Delran, so I didn’t know what to expect.

We arrived at the Route 130 Diner around 6 pm on a Friday, and it was packed.  It was one of the few diners that we even had to wait for a table.

Route 130 Diner Atmosphere: B
The Route 130 Diner layout reminds me of an Old Golden Corral.  It uses wooden side paneling as well as similar booths.  At the Route 130 Diner, it’s one large room, a bar and bakery case.  The bakery case caught my eye.

There are actually two entry doors to the Route 130 Diner, and it’s extremely confusing.  People come and go from both sides of the Route 130 Diner so you don’t know where the line to be seated starts or ends.

Route 130 Diner Service: B
We waited for about 5 minutes for our waitress to acknowledge us but once she did, she brought over drinks and took our food.  I felt as though I was always asking her for refills, but she was friendly.

Route 130 Diner Coffee: A
The coffee at the Route 130 Diner was great.  The waitress added lots of whipped cream (let’s be honest, more whipped cream always wins).  Plus the coffee at the Route 130 Diner was hot.  I have no complaints and it one of the better diner coffees I’ve had.

Route Diner Food: A
TheRoute 130 Diner menu isn’t posted online anywhere, so I had no idea what to expect.  The Route 130 Diner menu has everything from breakfast to lunch to dinner.  If you are worried you won’t find something usually at a diner; you’re probably worried about nothing. I saw a table order a salad next to me and decided to go with the same one.

Their house salad resembled a Greek Salad with a lot of cheese.  There was an entire layer of cheese, but I didn’t mind.  I think all entree salads should come with meat, cheese, and bread.  If not, I will probably order some.

I ordered salmon, and it was extremely fresh.  I was pleasantly surprised by how large the portion was as well as the quality of the food.  Honestly, it was one of the best salad I’ve had at a restaurant in a while.

Route 130 Diner Dessert: C
I decided to order the German Chocolate Cake to take home.  The frosting of the cake was good. However, it tasted as if the cake had been sitting for quite some time.  The pieces of layer cake were hard and somewhat crusty.  It wasn’t the worst cake I’ve had but not the best either.  If I came back to Route 130 Diner, I wouldn’t order the cake.

Route 130 Diner Cost: $
For my coffee, salad, and cake at the Route 130 Diner, the cost was $22.  That’s not too bad for the amount of food as well as the quality of the entree.

Summary/Would I come back to the Route 130 Diner (Delran)?
I was pleasantly surprised with the Route 130 Diner in Delran.  It’s a great stop if you are heading North from Philadelphia or around the area.  It’s one of the better diners I’ve been too locally.

  1. I don’t drink cream in my coffee, but that whipped cream looks so good right now, I might have to try this next time I’m ordering at a diner.

  2. I’ve always loved the idea of diners. They give me a home-y like feeling. I also agree that the more whip cream the better. 🙂
