Newton Momentum Running Shoe Review

Newton Momentum Running Shoe Review

The Newton Momentum is a neutral, everyday running shoe that promises both comfort and agility. For those who have followed the blog forever, you know that when I first started running, I loved the Newton Gravities. Throughout my running life, I’ve probably gone through about 30 pairs of Gravities. It’s not that I don’t like them now, but working in run specialty, I got to try several models, which helped me branch out and see what the running world has to offer. Newton will always have a special place in my running heart.

With a design that combines elements of Newton’s Gravity and Isaac models, the Momentum offers a perfect balance of cushioning and energy return.

Newton Momentum Running Shoe Review

Before trying the Newton Momentum, I had a few questions:

  • Do Newton running shoes feel weird? Yes! They do take some time to get used to, so make sure you aren’t diving into all your training in them right away.
  • What makes the Newton Momentum different? I found it to be surprisingly soft.

In this honest review, I’ll dive into the Newton Momentum’s performance, fit, and who this shoe is good for.

Newton Momentum Fit

The Newton Momentum features a gender-tuned upper that molds perfectly to your foot. Newton has been using gender-specific fits for a while, but it doesn’t always get the hype that other brands do!

The best running shoes disappear off your feet, and the Newton Momentum does just that. I actually think it’s one of the better-fitting running shoes I’ve worn lately. Immediately after putting it on, it felt good. The Adaptive Fit Air Mesh ensures breathability, keeping your feet cool even during long runs. Additionally, the shoe’s plush anti-friction lining reduces irritation, which is a game-changer for preventing hot spots or blisters on high-mileage days.

The multi-positional lacing system offers versatility, allowing you to find your ideal fit. One standout feature is that this shoe’s upper is crafted entirely from 100% recycled materials. You know I love a sustainable shoe, and it’s awesome to see the work Newton has done with their products.

In running shoes, I wear between a women’s size 10-11 wide. I’ve found the women’s size 11 to fit the best. My feet aren’t “wide,” but they are on the wide side, and the Newton Momentum fits well. When I put the shoe on, it just felt good.

Newton Momentum Ride

The midsole is where the magic happens, right? What sets the Newton Momentum apart is its advanced Newtonium-T Midsole. Who doesn’t love fancy buzzwords? This 26mm stack of cushioning combines responsiveness and softness, delivering an exceptional balance of comfort and energy return.

The XPS+ Pebax® plating system adds extra spring with every step, while the Reflex Action Reaction Technology™ promotes a natural, snappy transition from landing to toe-off. For those who value comfort without sacrificing performance, the Newtonium-H footbed delivers plush underfoot support.

I was surprised when I began running in the Newton Momentum. They are soft yet still responsive, which is what I prefer in a daily trainer. Many Newton models err on the side of responsiveness due to the lug system, but these have a soft component that makes them great for longer and easier runs.

Where Does the Newton Momentum Fit into My Rotation?

It’s a daily running shoe. They can handle almost any pace but excel in daily runs. They are a shoe I pack when I’m not entirely sure what kind of run I’ll do. I like that they can handle easy runs but don’t feel terrible when I try to pick up the pace.

Finally, keep in mind that the Newton lug system makes this brand unique, and you should slowly work into them. If you start running in Newton shoes too quickly, you might find yourself injured.

Outsole

The Newton Momentum excels in durability and traction, designed to handle a variety of surfaces. It uses Reflex ART® forefoot technology for a smooth and responsive ride, allowing you to pick up speed without feeling bogged down. Newton claims the outsole is built to last, providing grip in all conditions.

I’ve taken them out in inclement weather as well as on light trails with no issues of slowing down. I haven’t slipped at all. Finally, as far as durability goes, Newton is one of the most durable brands. I’ve put just over 100 miles on mine with no signs of wear. I expect they’ll last about 500 miles.

Newton Momentum Conclusion

The Newton Momentum is great for runners who want a highly cushioned, neutral trainer that still allows for quick transitions and responsiveness. I’m a huge fan! Plus, with sustainable materials, it’s an eco-friendly choice.

Who Should Buy the Newton Momentum?

  • Runners seeking a lightweight neutral shoe with higher cushioning.
  • Athletes who prioritize sustainable, eco-friendly materials.

Who Should Not Buy the Newton Momentum?

  • Runners who prefer a minimalist shoe with less cushioning.
  • Those who don’t have time to slowly work into Newton running shoes. It does take time.

  1. I really enjoyed your detailed review of the Newton Momentum! It’s great to see how well they combine comfort and responsiveness, especially for those longer runs. I appreciate your insights on the fit and sustainability aspects, as eco-friendly options are becoming more important for many runners.

As for your question, the brand I’ve put the most miles on is definitely Asics—I love their consistency and support. My favorite running shoe would have to be the Asics Gel-Kayano for its perfect blend of cushioning and stability.
