Topo Fli-Lyte 6 Shoe Review

Topo Fli-Lyte 6 Shoe Review

I was excited to try the Topo Fli-Lyte 6. When most brands are going bigger and softer, Topo has stuck to its roots. The Topo Fli-Lyte 6 is a no-nonsense shoe for runners who want simplicity, ground feel, and a ride that stays out of the way. This update brings an improved upper but keeps the core DNA the same: low drop, firm ride, and a wide, anatomical fit.

This kind of shoe is becoming rare in 2025, and that’s exactly what makes the Fli-Lyte 6 so appealing. You rarely see a daily trainer at $125, and that makes it one of the best deals on the market.

Before trying the Topo Fli-Lyte 6, I had a few questions:

Is the Topo Fli-Lyte 6 good for runners who prefer minimal shoes?
Yes, the Topo Fli-Lyte 6 is one of the best options in 2025 for runners who want something closer to the ground. With a 23mm/20mm stack height and a 3mm drop, it offers excellent ground feel without going completely barefoot. It’s firm, light, and doesn’t try to do the work for you…which is exactly what many minimal shoe fans are looking for.

How does the Topo Fli-Lyte 6 compare to the Saucony Kinvara and Brooks Hyperion?
The Fli-Lyte 6 feels most similar to the original Saucony Kinvara…before the Kinvara got bulkier in recent versions. It’s firmer than today’s Kinvara and has a wider toe box. Compared to the Brooks Hyperion, the Fli-Lyte is more flexible and has a lower stack, but it’s not quite as firm underfoot. Both are great for uptempo runs, but the Fli-Lyte 6 leans more natural and less structured.

Can you use the Topo Fli-Lyte 6 for gym workouts and strength training?
Definitely. The Fli-Lyte 6 works well for gym sessions thanks to its stable platform and low stack height. It doesn’t have the squish that makes lifting feel unstable, and the secure fit keeps your foot planted. It’s one of the more versatile shoes out there for people who run and cross-train in the same pair.

Now let’s get into an honest Topo Fli-Lyte 6 shoe review.

Topo Fli-Lyte 6 Fit

The Fli-Lyte 6 fits true to size with Topo’s signature roomy toe box. If you’ve never tried the brand Topo, you’ll find the shoe to have a nice wide toe box. The updated mesh upper is breathable and lightweight…perfect for warm weather training. The fit overall is great: wide up front without feeling sloppy, while the midfoot and heel have a secure, performance-oriented feel.

The heel counter is lightly padded and flexible…great if you’re sensitive to heel structure. The tongue isn’t gusseted, but it stays in place thanks to a simple lace loop. Laces are flat and easy to dial in without needing to double-knot or readjust mid-run. Overall, it’s a clean fit that stays locked in and disappears once you’re moving.

The best running shoe uppers disappear off your feet, and I really haven’t had any issues the Fli-Lyte 6. In fact, I don’t recall having issues with any Topo running shoes. No hot spots, blisters, or anything that really distracted me from running. Of course, if you don’t have wider feet the fit is still going to feel good, it’s not sloppy or big so no need to worry about that.

In running shoes, I wear between a women’s size 10–11 wide, and I’ve found the size 11 to fit the best. I really appreciate the nice roomy toe box.

How gorgeous is this blue?

Topo Fli-Lyte 6 Ride

The midsole is where the magic happens, and Topo’s ZipFoam isn’t flashy but it’s good. The Fli-Lyte 6 rides firm without being harsh, which makes it feel more connected to the road. The low 23/20 mm stack and 3 mm drop encourage a natural gait cycle, but you’ll want to be mindful of your calves and ankles…this shoe asks them to work harder. In a world of high stack heights, make sure to work into this shoe if you haven’t been wearing minimal drop shoes.

There’s a subtle rocker up front, but it’s not aggressive. It doesn’t push you forward like some modern shoes do. Instead, it lets you run how you naturally would. It reminds me of a lot of running shoes from 10 years ago, and I can appreciate that. I personally believe that many runners have gotten too obsessed with high stack height running shoes.

Where does the Topo Fli-Lyte 6 fit into my rotation? I like the simplicity, and it’s been a great daily trainer for me. If I want a shoe where I don’t quite know what kind of run I’m doing for the day, it’s been a great option. For recovery runs, I do prefer something with more cushion, and for speedwork, I like something like the Specter 2.

Outsole

There’s plenty of rubber in the right spots…heel and forefoot coverage with a bit of exposed foam in the midfoot. I’ve never really had an issue with Topo shoes not holding up, and the Topo Fli-Lyte 6 is no different. The traction holds up well on both dry and wet pavement.

Durability should land around the 300-mile mark, which is pretty good for a shoe this light.

Topo Fli-Lyte 6 Conclusion

The Topo Fli-Lyte 6 is a nice break from the trend of maximal everything. It’s light, stable, and reliable. You don’t have to think much when you lace it up…it simply works. There aren’t many shoes like it left, and that’s a shame.

This is a great option for runners who want to feel the road and at $125, it’s a rare find in a world of $150+ trainers.
