The hype for the adidas Adizero Evo SL has been real. adidas has been refining its running shoe lineup lately, and the Adizero Evo SL is one of the more exciting additions in a while. The brand new Evo SL steps in as a middle-ground option in the adidas lineup… lighter, more affordable, and more versatile. Adidas has plenty of workout shoes or workout clothes depending on your style and needs.

With a full-length Lightstrike Pro midsole and a geometry inspired by the Evo Pro, the adidas Adizero Evo SL offers a snappy yet smooth ride that makes it a solid option for tempo runs, long runs, and even racing. At $150, it hits a sweet spot for runners wanting super shoe tech without the super shoe price. In this shoe market, it’s actually wild the adidas Adizero Evo SL only costs $150.

adidas Adizero Evo SL Fit

The upper uses an engineered mesh that balances breathability and structure. It hugs the foot nicely, and while the toe box has a slightly tapered feel, it opens up into a normal to slightly wider forefoot. The heel and midfoot offer a snug but comfortable fit, and there’s a moderate amount of heel padding.

There’s a small internal heel counter that didn’t bother me, though runners sensitive to that area may want to be cautious. The tongue is thin and non-gusseted but stays in place.

The best running shoe uppers disappear off your feet, and I haven’t had any issues with the adidas Adizero Evo SL. The first time I put it on, I was like, wow, this feels good. It fits and feels good. Overall, the fit feels performance-oriented but not overly restrictive. It’s best for runners with normal-width feet or those who like a locked-in feel with just a touch of give in the forefoot.

In running shoes, I wear between a women’s size 10–11 wide, and the size 11 fits the best. The first time I tried the Adizero Evo SL on, it was comfortable and I immediately went for a run. I haven’t had any issues with the fit, and it’s felt comfortable the entire time.

adidas Adizero Evo SL Ride

The midsole is where the magic happens, right? The standout here is the full-length Lightstrike Pro midsole, which delivers a soft and smooth ride. It’s slightly firmer than what’s found in the Evo Pro or Adios Pro 4 but still responsive and forgiving. It works well at both slower and faster paces, making it great for workouts, long runs, and even recovery days.

The nylon midfoot shank (which feels more like a full-length plate) adds just the right amount of snap without being overly stiff. You get a smooth roll through the stride thanks to a well-placed heel bevel and early-stage rocker. It’s not as explosive as a full carbon-plated super shoe, but it’s much more versatile.

Where does the adidas Adizero Evo SL fit into my rotation? I wasn’t really sure where it would fit, but it’s become a fun daily trainer. I like using it on runs when I don’t know what I’m going to do. It can handle harder efforts but feels good for recovery days too. I was surprised when I was running easy, but it felt smooth. If I’m only doing a workout, then I’ll use a faster shoe like the adidas Pro 4 or adidas Evo Pro, but for daily runs where I may pick up the pace, it was good.

Outsole

adidas is known for their excellent traction, and the adidas Adizero Evo SL is no different. Traction is great on roads and light trails. I’ve used mine on some light Mojave Desert trails with no issues. I will say there is some exposed midsole in the heel, which could be a problem if you take them on super rigorous trails.

As far as durability, I expect the adidas Adizero Evo SL to last the full 300–400 miles with no issues.

adidas Adizero Evo SL Conclusion

The adidas Adizero Evo SL hits a sweet spot that many runners have been looking for. It’s soft without being mushy, snappy without being aggressive, and lightweight without compromising on comfort. Whether you’re looking for a training companion to your race day super shoes or want one shoe that can handle workouts, long runs, and even races, the Evo SL delivers. If you’re a fan of previous adidas Boston shoes, you’ll likely be very happy with the adidas Adizero Evo SL. For me, it’s ranking in one of my top 5 shoes of 2025.

At $150, it’s also one of the better values in the performance trainer category. In fact, the Adizero Evo SL is probably one of the best value trainers out there.
