The Reebok Floatzig 1 is definitely a shoe that catches people’s eyes. I’ve always thought Reebok was an underrated brand. One of my favorite daily trainers is the Reebok Floatride, although I haven’t actually tried the Reebok Floatride Energy 5. The Reebok Energy X is a great carbon-plated shoe for someone who doesn’t want to spend $200.
Reebok has always been slightly cheaper than other brands. For instance, the maximal cushioned Floatzig 1 is $130 compared to most other brands that are $160. Their daily trainer, the Reebok Floatride Energy, is $110 compared to most daily trainers that start at $130-$140. And as mentioned above, the carbon-plated Energy X is $180 compared to other brands that are $250. So if you’re looking to save money and for a good shoe, Reebok shoes are good options.
When you see the Reebok Floatzig 1, you think, “Wow, that shoe is interesting.” It looks like a futuristic shoe, and you’re just so taken aback by it. Not in a good or bad way, but in a “wow, that is different” way. That’s because this shoe is different! I had a couple of questions before trying the Floatzig 1:
- Is the Reebok Floatzig 1 good? Yes, it really is a good shoe.
- Why does the Reebok Floatzig 1 look like that?
- Is Reebok a good brand? They actually are! They make quality shoes without the high cost.

Reebok Floatzig 1 Fit
The Reebok Floatzig 1 fits true to size. If you’ve never worn Reebok before, they tend to fit long with a slightly more narrow midfoot. It’s not “too narrow,” and my foot feels secure but not squished. If you do have a wider midfoot, you’ll need to be wary of this. It uses engineered mesh that breathes and feels good.
The best running shoe uppers disappear off your feet, and I found a slight irritation with the rearfoot design. Because the shoe fits a bit higher, I found it to rub on the ankle. After a couple of minutes of running, it didn’t bother me, but it’s something to consider if you’ve been irritated by higher fitting shoes in the past. In all, the Reebok Floatzig 1 fits well, and I don’t have irritation once I’m actually running.
Like many Reebok shoes, the Floatzig one is part of the “[REE]CYCLED” program, which means it’s made with at least 30% recycled or repurposed materials. I’m all for brands that take that initiative, and the Floatzig breathes well, so you’d never know it was using recycled materials.
In running shoes, I wear between a women’s size 10-11 wide, and I found the size 11 to fit well. If you have a wider midfoot, you may consider sizing up.
Reebok Floatzig 1 Ride:
The Reebok Floatzig 1 features soft Floatride Foam and Beaded TPE foam that is designed to perform better. The Beaded TPE is said to be more durable than EVA and perform better in cooler conditions. It also features “Springy Zig Technology.” The unique Zig shape allows for maximum energy return. Reebok says it’s a great shoe for long runs!
This seemed like a lot of technology in one shoe. I wasn’t sure where the Reebok Floatzig 1 would fit into my rotation. Would it be an easy run shoe? A long run shoe? I tried it in several different runs and decided it was great for long easy runs, or daily runs. I appreciate that it’s able to pick up the pace fairly well but it has so much cushion for daily and easy runs. For recovery runs, I do prefer something softer, and for races, I prefer something with less shoe. In all, it makes for a great easy/long run shoe.
Outsole:
Reebok has always lasted longer than a lot of other brands. Interestingly enough because it’s typically cheaper? The Reebok Floatzig 1 is no different. The rubber outsole provides plenty of traction and durability. I’ve run with the Reebok Floatzig 1 in inclement weather as well as on the sandy trails near my house and had no issues. If I was looking for a shoe that performs well in minimum traction, I would consider the Reebok Floatzig 1 or any Reebok shoe. I suspect the Reebok Floatzig 1 will last around 500 miles.
Reebok Floatzig 1 Conclusion:
If you are looking for a well-cushioned trainer, consider the Reebok Floatzig 1. It performs well in inclement weather, and it fits and feels good. As mentioned, Reebok running shoes are good, and it’s awesome how they are cheaper than many other brands.
Who should buy the Reebok Floatzig 1? If you are looking for a daily trainer with plenty of cushion.
Who should not buy the Reebok Floatzig 1? If you find that higher cut shoes irritate your ankles or if you have a wider midfoot.
