TRX Review

The TRX Tactical Gym Suspension Trainer is one of the most versatile tools I’ve ever added to my training arsenal. Truthfully, I’ve known I *should* get back into strength training, but I just haven’t. I don’t enjoy going to the gym and throwing around weights alone. I like group exercises classes but that osn’t really an option in the desert. So I thought: why not try the TRX.

The TRX delivers exactly that by focusing on functional movements and engaging multiple muscle groups. Plus, its portability makes it perfect for someone like me with an unpredictable schedule.

Before trying the TRX I had a few questions:

  • Is mounting the TRX easy? Yes, you can literally put it in a door frame and use it. Set up can be as easy as you want it.
  • Is the TRX a good workout? Yes. You can get a great workout from the TRX. You aren’t going to be lifting heavy weights, but you can make the workout as hard or as easy as you want simply by different positioning of your feet.
  • Is the TRX easy to use? Yes. Following the app or watching videos can show you everything you need to know. Plus, you can always modify.
  • Is the TRX as good as weightlifting? Yes, you can get a great workout using bodyweight. Don’t underestimate how challenging this can be.

About the Brand

TRX began in the 1990s when Navy SEAL Randy Hetrick needed a way to stay in peak condition while on deployment. Using just a jiu jitsu belt and parachute webbing, he created the first-ever Suspension Trainer. Since then, TRX has evolved into a globally recognized fitness brand, offering high-quality, portable training equipment trusted by military personnel, athletes, and fitness enthusiasts alike. Today, TRX focuses on empowering people to move better, build strength, and lead healthier lives.

About TRX

TRX, short for Total Resistance eXercise, is a suspension training system that uses your body weight and gravity to build strength, flexibility, and balance. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced athlete, TRX allows you to scale the intensity of each exercise by adjusting your body’s angle. It’s designed to be used anywhere—from your home to the gym or even outdoors. The system is built with military-grade materials to ensure long-lasting durability and reliability.

That is a huge perk to me. You are able to bring and set up the TRX anywhere, making for a great workouts wherever you want to go.

What Makes TRX Different?
  1. Portability: Lightweight and compact, the TRX Tactical Gym Suspension Trainer is easy to carry and set up anywhere. You can anchor it to a door, tree, or pole in minutes.
  2. Full-Body Engagement: By leveraging suspension, it activates multiple muscle groups simultaneously, including your core, enhancing stability and balance.
  3. Versatility: Suitable for strength training, HIIT, core workouts, mobility exercises, and even yoga. It offers limitless exercise options.
  4. Durability: Made with military-grade materials to withstand tough conditions, it’s built for rigorous use.
  5. Guided Workouts: The TRX app offers thousands of workouts and programs led by expert trainers, making it easy to find a routine that fits your goals.

My Experience with the TRX:

I was very curious if I would feel like I’m getting a workout with body weight exercises only. There is a reason people “lift heavy” but there have been multiple times I’ve been sore post workout. The TRX has become a staple in my training routine.

My biggest concern with the TRX is how do I mount the TRX? I rent my home so adding huge bolts is not really an option. It’s so easy to hook into a door frame and not mount it all. I was a bit nervous at first, but it all worked out.

In the TRX app, they have so many easy to follow workouts. They even have workouts tailored for endurance athletes and runners. I’ve done several of the running focused workouts and I feel like I’m already building strenght.

I am also subscribed to the TRX which is $20 a month. While the initial investment may seem high, the durability and versatility make it worth every penny. The app alone adds significant value, providing access to over 2000 workouts tailored to various fitness levels and goals.
