Saucony Ride 13 Shoe Review

Saucony Ride 13 Shoe Review

The Saucony Ride has been a favorite of mine for the last few years. It’s a lightweight trainer from Saucony that has stayed relatively similar from year to year. The Saucony Ride ISO 2 is last year’s version, but Saucony has removed the ISO fitting and gone back to regular lacing. When Saucony introduced the ISO lacing a few years ago, I wondered how it would do, but for the most part it looks like Saucony’s shoes are going back to traditional fit and lacing.

Anyway, this year’s Saucony Ride 13 has gotten a bigger update, which I believe is for the better, which is scary because I’ve been reasonably happy with the last few versions of the Saucony Ride.

Saucony Ride 13 Fit:

The updated engineered mesh upper fit in the Saucony Ride 13 has plenty of room in the toe box Saucony is known to be a slightly wider brand, plus the Saucony Ride 13 comes in wide widths too.

The lower heel counter of Saucony shoes has always been an issue to fit orthotics and inserts. While the Saucony Ride 13 still maintains the lower heel cup, it fits inserts and orthotics better than most years. With the lower heel, sometimes, people feel as though they are sliding.  That hasn’t seemed to be as much of an issue with this year’s Saucony Ride 13.

A new feature about the Saucony Ride 13 is the newly updated shoelaces. Often times people think Saucony shoelaces are too flat. The updated Saucony Ride 13 now has stretchy shoelaces that seem a lot more durable than previous years.

There are changes across the board from the Saucony ISO Ride 2 (Also known as the Saucony Ride 12) to the Ride 13.  The first being the removal of the ISO technology.  The Saucony Ride 13 known uses the “FORMFIT” system. What does that mean? The FORMFIT now looks and feels like a traditional shoe and uses three layers of cushion to create a bucketlike seat feeling. Now, if only Saucony would increase the depth of all its shoes, it would be nearly perfect.

I typically wear between a women’s size 10-11 wide and have found the Saucony Ride 13 in size 10.5 to fit well.

Saucony Ride 13 Ride:

I don’t know why I get a kick out of saying the Saucony Ride Ride. It amuses me every year. Anyway, the Saucony Ride is one of Saucony’s work horse shoes. It can do almost everything from easy runs to long runs, to workouts. While I personally prefer something lighter than the Saucony Ride for workouts, it’s a good shoe for that.

The next significant change for the Saucony Ride 13 has been updated with Saucony’s PWRRUN midsole.  Saucony has left “PWRFOAM” and traded it for “PWRRUN.”

What does that mean? The PWRRUN Midsole is both soft and responsive. You don’t feel like you’re sinking into the shoe like many other brands and has a good balance of soft and responsive.

Saucony has always had shoes that have a nice heel to toe transition, and the updated Saucony Ride 13 falls in line. It feels smooth when rolling through the gait cycle versus clinky between stride.

For me, the Saucony Ride 13 fits well into an easy run or daily run trainer. I know I’ll get good cushion with it if my body is feeling a big banged up from a workout, but’s also responsive enough that I don’t feel sluggish while running.

Saucony Ride 13 Conclusion:

The Saucony Ride 13 is a great shoe, if not one of the best neutral trainers from Saucony. The updated fit of the Saucony Ride 13 works better with more foot shapes.  Plus, while the midsole is different, you still get the same responsive, yet cushioned feel that the Saucony Ride has given.

I’ve logged close to 50 miles in the Saucony Ride 13 and I think the update is awesome. It’s one of my more favorite updates (maybe second to the Saucony Ride 10). The fit and ride are good.

  1. I was hoping you would review this shoe! I was debating between the Ride 13 and the Endorphin Shift and I ended up going with the Shift and really do like it. The Ride has always been a great shoe as well…may need to add it to my rotation at some point. Thanks, Hollie!
