I guess I’ll do honeymoon posts before the Wedding…because that makes complete sense right? Since professional photos take time, I want to wait for those before posting about the wedding.
I won’t recap every single thing from the Honeymoon because that would be another 10 days of posts. For our honeymoon we decided to take a short trip to Key West followed by a 7 day cruise. Together we spent about 10 days away. We really enjoyed seeing many different places and areas.
Before boarding our cruise we decided to head down to Key West. I’ve been to Key West twice (once on another cruise and once for a swim team training trip). T had never been before!
We landed at Fort Lauderdale and drove the (close to 4 hours) south to Key West. It was a really enjoyable and pretty drive.
We didn’t have any big plans in Key West and just enjoyed that. We walked around and enjoyed various aspects of the area (from the glass bottom boat to the “Better than Sex Dessert Bar”). We are both very laid back so we felt no pressure to have everything planned to the minute. That isn’t our style at all.
The first order of business was to buy these t-shirts.
Some other activities we enjoyed:
Watching Dolphins and creatures from our glass bottom boat
We went to several restaurants including the Banana Café (diner review to come)
Our favorite restaurant was the famous dessert and drink bar “Better than Sex”. It only serves dessert and drinks. Since we both have a huge sweet tooth we had to go. Plus how can you not go to a restaurant titled Better than Sex?
We decided to order the “Cookie Nookie”. It was a cookie cake topped with chocolate and caramel sauce as well as whipped cream. It was one of the best desserts I’ve ever had.
I ordered a chocolate stout and T ordered the “Cream in my coffee”. Both drinks were really good and came with a chocolate rim. They melted chocolate and decorated the rim of the glass.
Something we also enjoyed was the different areas to run. When we first arrived to Florida, we were not used to the heat at all. It was a struggle for us to get acclimated but once we did it made for great running. I haven’t run in a sports bra in what seems like forever. My favorite run was running to one of the local beaches and back, it was a beautiful view and a gorgeous run in general. I am already wishing I was back.
We also ran to the Southern Most Point of the US. Whether you run there or not, it’s something you must visit while going to Key West.
As you can see, we had such a great time in Key West. I really enjoy the area and it’s somewhere I really enjoy vacationing too.
Questions for you:
Have you ever been to Key West?
Have you ever been to a dessert bar?
It’s been a while since I have been to Key West, but I have been there twice before and had a blast both times. Lots of good food and fun! I also stayed on Marathon Key and visited Bahia Honda State Park, one of the only places in the Keys you can find natural sand (not brought in on a ferry), and took a trip out to Fort Jefferson and the Dry Tortugas west of Key West. Fun seeing your photos of some places I haven’t been in a while!! 🙂
The last time I was in Key West we stayed in a rented house basically in Fort Jefferson, it was really fun to ride bikes down there!
I love Key West! Did you get to go to Ernest Hemingway’s house? That is my favorite place in Key West….it’s beautiful and there are SO MANY CATS! I’m glad you guys enjoyed your honeymoon in such a relaxing and beautiful place – time feels slower down there. By the way, love the new blog layout, too!
That chocolate stout looks to DIE for… anything that has a chocolate rimmed glass is good in my books. So glad to see the honeymoon was enjoyable but really can’t wait for that wedding recap. Your dress was STUNNING, just like you <3
Thank you so much for all of your support Karla, I always appreciate it!
I’ve been to Miami a dozen times but have never been to Key West. It sounds so fun!! Glad you had a great time. I’m pretty sure you two could go anywhere and have a blast together 🙂
Never been to Key West, but it looks beautiful! We’re actually having a dessert bar for my son’s birthday this weekend 🙂
I’ve never been to Key West but I’ve heard it’s great! You guys look like you had so much fun on your honeymoon. When I saw you instagram that dessert I showed it to Tim and was like “LOOK AT THAT COOKIE DESSERT THING! I NEED TO GO THERE.” Ha. Anyways, glad you had a great time and got to relax and enjoy each others company 🙂
You understand the dessert. Ha!
I went to Key West on a cruise (it was one of our destinations) a few years ago. I would love to go back and spend a few days there. We visited the Southernmost point but did not take a pic bc the line was so long. Also we had drinks and dessert but it wasn’t at that bar… we do have an awesome dessert bar here in Charleston called Kaminsky’s but that dessert is just beautiful (I’ve never seen anything like that at Kaminsky’s). Glad you got to enjoy some warm weather runs and the beaches, and you could share Key West with Tim since he’d never been.
I LOVE Key West. My sister and I used to go a bunch. All of it is amazing, the key lime pie, Hemingway’s house, the beaches, the locals, the coffee…. ah so good. I love it there. And dessert restaurants are my favorite!!! I have a HUGE sweet tooth. When I lived in Boston, my friends and I would go to Finale all the time, they have incredible food.
We are going to Key West for our Honeymoon and I can’t wait! Glad you had a blast there.
We went to Key West as part of our honeymoon too 🙂 We loved loved loved the Dry Tortugas National Park and it was definitely worth the day trip.
That is actually one place we really wanted to get too but didn’t have time!
I wish I could afford to go to Key West because I think the drive there would be awesome! I was looking at Google Maps the other day and is it just a ton of bridges? I imagine it’s pretty! LOVE the shirts. HA! Too funny!
LOL they call the chocolate rim a “rim-job” Teehehehehehe
Hahaha! Someone went to the website LOLZZ
Aw, what a sweet (get it?) dessert! That’s great you guys kept it low-key and just relaxed. And yeah, the Florida heat/humidity is no joke!
I’m so glad someone else enjoys the puns! 😉
I love the teeshirts! I went to a place in Buffalo called The Chocolate Bar and had the strawberry cheesecake martini. DELICIOUS!
Florida heat is awful. We honeymooned in Walt Disney World, so that was 7 days of Florida heat. Feels like you’re swimming while you walk. That dessert looks amazing! I’m glad you guys had fun!
I’ve never been to Florida, but I’d definitely like to make it down there one day. I have no idea how I’d deal with that kind of heat, though… especially since there’s so much humidity. I’d probably have to walk around with a little mini fan all the time 😆 It really does look beautiful, though.
