Adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 Releases Today: Is a $500 Marathon Shoe Worth It?

adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3

The adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 is getting another release on October 29, 2026, with a retail price of $500. Yes, five hundred dollars for a pair of running shoes. At that price, I would hope they could also do my laundry and possibly pay my race entry fees. Maybe run for me too?

What makes the adidas Adios Pro Evo 3 different from another expensive carbon racing shoe is its weight. Adidas managed to get the shoe down to just 97 grams, or approximately 3.4 ounces, in a UK men’s size 8.5. That is ridiculously light for a marathon shoe, and the Evo 3 has already been worn during some of the fastest marathon performances of 2026. If you’ve been around the running shoe block for a few years, you know that some of the fastest running shoes in the 2010s were around 3 ounces. My how times have changed.

I’ve tried plenty of expensive racing shoes, including the original Adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1, which also retailed for $500. I liked aspects of that shoe, but the short lifespan made the price difficult to justify. After just eight miles, I was already noticing wear on the outsole. The Evo 3 promises improved running economy, a completely redesigned carbon structure, and an even lighter construction. Whether recreational marathoners are going to benefit enough to justify the price is another question.

Adidas Adios Pro Evo 3 Release Date and Price

The adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 originally launched in limited quantities in April 2026, ahead of the London Marathon. Today’s October 29 release gives runners another opportunity to purchase the shoe, although quantities remain limited.

Adidas lists the shoe at $500, with availability beginning at 7 a.m. on its US website. Adidas has also announced availability through its Confirmed app, while select running retailers have their own limited releases.

You can check the official Adidas Adios Pro Evo 3 product page for availability.

The biggest change from the previous model is the introduction of ENERGYRIM, a carbon-integrated structure surrounding the foam rather than the traditional carbon rods used in several other adidas racing shoes. Adidas also developed a new version of Lightstrike Pro Evo foam that weighs nearly 50% less than the previous foam formulation. The upper uses extremely lightweight materials, while the outsole has minimal rubber coverage to reduce weight. According to adidas’ official launch announcement, its testing showed a 1.6% improvement in running economy compared with the Evo 2. That is a manufacturer-reported result, though, and doesn’t mean every runner will automatically get 1.6% faster.

Why Are Elite Marathoners Racing in the adidas Adios Pro Evo 3?

The adidas Adios Pro Evo 3 has already had an impressive year. Sabastian Sawe wore the shoe when he ran 1:59:30 at the 2026 London Marathon, becoming the first runner to break two hours in a record-eligible marathon. Tigst Assefa also wore the shoe when she set a women’s-only world record of 2:15:41 in London. Adidas runners continued winning throughout the fall marathon season, including both the men’s and women’s races at Berlin and Chicago. Seven of the eight most recent World Marathon Major winners through Chicago wore the Adios Pro Evo 3, which is a remarkable stretch for one racing shoe.

Of course, adidas sponsors some of the fastest athletes in the world, and that plays a role in which shoes appear on the podium. I wouldn’t look at the results and assume the Evo 3 alone is responsible for those finishing times. These athletes could probably beat most of us wearing shoes from the clearance rack…but there is no denying that Adidas has had an excellent year in marathon racing, though.

Is the adidas Adios Pro Evo 3 Worth $500?

For context, I’ve previously reviewed the adidas Adizero Adios Pro 4, which retailed for approximately $250, and the adidas Adizero Evo SL, which launched at $150. Both are considerably less expensive, and the Evo SL can also handle everyday training.

Adidas hasn’t provided a guaranteed mileage lifespan for the Evo 3, and its minimal outsole construction raises reasonable durability questions. I wouldn’t purchase a $500 racing shoe expecting to use it for months of marathon workouts. I would expect it to get 1 workout and 1 marathon race before the benefits start declining.

There are also several excellent racing shoes below the $500 price point. I’ve reviewed the ASICS Metaspeed Ray at $300 and the Saucony Endorphin Pro 5, both of which offer alternatives for runners who want a dedicated racing shoe.

Will $500 Marathon Shoes Become Normal?

The adidas Adios Pro Evo 3 is part of a growing category of extremely lightweight racing shoes that prioritize performance over everyday practicality. Brands are investing heavily in foam development, carbon structures, and weight reduction, with each new release promising another improvement.  I don’t necessarily have an issue with expensive racing shoes existing. There will always be runners who want the newest technology.

What I find fascinating is how quickly the expectations surrounding racing shoes have changed. A few years ago, spending $250 on a pair of carbon-plated shoes seemed outrageous. Now we have $500 models selling out, sometimes before the average runner even has a chance to try them.

While I enjoy testing running shoes, I’m still going to argue that most runners would benefit more from consistent training, adequate fueling, and a shoe that fits their feet than from spending another $250 to chase a marginal performance improvement.
