Chicken and Waffles

I thought I had posted this recipe a while ago…but alas I did not.  That’s fine though, because who doesn’t love yet another savory waffle recipe?  I like savory waffles a lot and have found you can never really have too many savory recipes.  I personally like the combination of chicken and waffles…but chicken in your waffle?  That…something about that…you probably don’t know what to say.

Plus they have the new Lay’s chicken and waffle chips…so why not pair them and make an actual chicken waffle.

chickenandwaffles

Chicken and Waffles

2/3 cup flour

1 egg

1 tsp baking powder

1 tablespoon oil

¼ cup chedder cheese

½ cup milk

shredded or broken up chicken

Spices I used: garlic (I know…that’s it).

You can somewhat see the chicken pieces poking through…like a little surprise

Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mix, then add the cheese and chicken.  If you add them before mixing then you’ll probably have clumps in the batter.

Question for you:

Sweet or savory?

Have you ever had chicken and waffles?

It’s pretty big in the south but I don’t see it as much up north.

  1. I haven’t had chicken and waffles, but my husband loves them. We have them here in Charleston, including some of our favorite diners, but I’ve never seen chicken mixed into the waffle before, that’s an interesting concept.

I’ve thought about doing the same thing with gardein meatless “chicken” one day, then Clay and I could both have chicken n waffles, haha.

  2. I’ve never had chicken and waffles but I was intrigued by the fact they could make it into a chip. Spices: Garlic… Sounds great to me. Italian-o at its finest.

  3. I don’t think I’ve ever had a savoury waffle at all, let alone the chicken and waffles combination. I do feel like it’s something that I have to try, whenever I happen to make another trip south.

  4. I’m usually a sweets girl all the way when it comes to the sweet vs. savory debate, but I have to admit that I was pretty impressed when I tried savory waffles. And I’m pretty sure that it’s not a thing up here, but I’ve had chicken and waffles before purely by accident – I was craving chicken and I was craving waffles so I went with both. Chicken IN waffles, though, is kind of new to me.

    1. I prefer sweeter waffles in the morning but brunch type waffles, after 11, are when I try and make savory if I do. Also dinner waffles seem more savory in my mind.

  5. I can’t say I have ever tried chicken and waffles, but my parents live not too far away from Long Beach where there is a Roscoe’s that Snoop Dog likes to go to. I LOVE combination of sweet and savory, so I guess I should go hang with Snoop and discover what theses babies are about!

  6. Oh mylanta some of the things you come up with. I think you need your own waffle making show, you star in it, I’ll be the taste tester. Yep, that settles it!

  7. Since I live in the South, it’s pretty big down here. Although, to be honest with you, I’m pretty boring when it comes to my waffles – I like ’em sweet! The whole sweet / savory combo always freaks me out (don’t even get me started on pineapple ham…).

  8. I have never had chicken and waffles before but I have been wanting to make it for a while now! We picked up a spicy maple syrup in Vermont a few months ago and we think it would be perfect for this meal!

  9. I’ve totally never had chicken n waffles before but I’ve definitely always wanted to! Perhaps once I move to VA lol (there are certainly a lot of waffle houses down there). As for sweet vs. savory I like both when they’re combined….yeah I feel like I should really try chicken n waffles as such lol

  10. How back is it that I’ve never had chicken and waffles?! I feel like it’s a standard combo as far as savory waffles go, right?

  11. O goodness you may have outdone yourself my dear! So there is this place in Roanoke called Thelma’s Chicken and Waffles. Seeing as I have never had this meal before I am interested and curious… I think we should find a place to get them!
