I was excited to try the adidas Supernova Prima. adidas has stepped up their daily trainer game. The Supernova Prima is the latest addition to adidas’ lineup, delivering a premium combination of comfort, cushioning, and durability. Built as a high-stack, neutral daily trainer, the Prima is designed to handle easy miles and long runs. It offers a smooth and stable ride, thanks to thoughtful design updates and adidas’ Dreamstrike+ midsole technology. Sometimes debut shoes miss the mark, but that hasn’t been the case here.
adidas makes high-quality men’s running shoes and women’s running shoes for almost any foot type!
Before trying the adidas Supernova Prima Shoe I had a couple of questions:
- Does the adidas Supernova Prima Shoe fit true to size? Yes, it even fits a bit wider than many adidas shoes (read not wide, just wider) so it’s able to accommodate different foot types.
- What is the adidas Supernova Prima Shoe made for? It’s best suited for easy runs or daily runs. It can handle harder efforts but there are better options from adidas for that.
With that, let’s get into an honest adidas Supernova Prima Shoe Review.
adidas Supernova Prima Introduction
After years of experimenting with different designs, adidas has streamlined its Supernova series, and the Prima is a standout. It builds on the success of the Supernova Rise, offering a slightly higher stack, more cushioning, and a lower drop for improved comfort. Featuring the innovative Dreamstrike+ midsole, it provides a smooth, cushioned ride for daily training, making it one of the most well-rounded shoes in adidas’ recent lineup.

adidas Supernova Prima Fit
While color in running shoes *shouldn’t* mean anything, I’m a big fan of the deep purple in the Supernova Prima. Now onto the actual fit. The Supernova Prima’s upper strikes a great balance between comfort and structure. The breathable mesh material provides a slightly wider fit in the forefoot, making it a good choice for those who prefer a little extra room. The padded heel collar enhances comfort, while a gusseted tongue ensures a secure lockdown in the midfoot.
The best running shoes disappear off your feet, and for the most part, the adidas Supernova Prima does just that. I appreciate the extra padding in the heel and I haven’t had any issues with hot spots or blisters. I’ve been really happy with the fit.
In running shoes, I wear between a women’s size 10-11 wide and have found the size 11 to fit the best. It’s comfortable, and it felt good from the moment I put it on.
adidas Supernova Prima Ride
The midsole is where the shoe magic happens, right? The Dreamstrike+ midsole is the heart of the Supernova Prima. It’s a PEBA-based foam that offers a balance between cushioning and stability. The foam is moderately soft, creating a protective feel underfoot that absorbs impact well during easy and long runs.
An 8 mm drop adds to the smoothness of the ride, especially for heel strikers, while bottom-loaded support rods in the forefoot enhance stability without compromising comfort.
Where does the adidas Supernova Prima fit into a running shoe rotation? I wasn’t sure where the adidas Supernova Prima would fit in a running shoe rotation. Would it be an easy run shoe? A tempo shoe? I’ve found it’s great for a consistent daily run shoe. It’s a shoe you can take when you have no idea what kind of run you want to do for the day. I’ve used it on faster/tempo runs, but my body prefers to run easy in it, and it feels great for that. It has a good amount of cushion and can handle higher mileage as needed.
Outsole
Durability and traction are key strengths of adidas, and the Supernova Prima is no different. It performs exceptionally well on paved roads and can even handle light trails, thanks to its durable rubber construction. The forefoot and midfoot feel rigid at first due to the embedded rods, but these break in over time, allowing for smoother transitions.
I’ve now used the adidas Supernova Prima for about 100 miles with no signs of it wearing out. I’ve never had an adidas shoe wear out in less than 400 miles, and the adidas Supernova Prima seems to follow suit. If you’re looking for one of the most durable running shoe brands out there, adidas is a great choice.
adidas Supernova Prima Conclusion
The adidas Supernova Prima is a dependable daily trainer that prioritizes comfort and durability. It’s a workhorse that can handle consistent mileage with ease. So far, it’s been one of my top trainers of 2024.
Who Should Buy the adidas Supernova Prima
If you’re looking for a high-stack, neutral trainer with excellent durability and stability, the Prima is an excellent choice. It’s particularly suited for runners who prefer a cushioned ride for steady paces and long distances.
Who Should Not Buy the adidas Supernova Prima
Runners seeking a highly responsive shoe for speedwork or racing might find the Prima less dynamic. Plus, adidas makes several other models that are better for speed.
