Humango Review

I was lucky enough to try Humango early this summer. AI is a hot topic right now, and Humango is an AI-driven training program. It’s not here to replace your favorite coach, but to be a tool that helps you along the way.

About Humango

Humango is a platform designed to boost athletic motivation and performance, whether you’re an elite athlete or just trying to stay active. It uses advanced AI to analyze your data and optimize your long-term potential while making workouts enjoyable. Whether you’re gearing up for a running or cycling race, an Ironman, or just want to stay fit, Humango will create a plan for you.

What Makes Humango Different?

When people hear “AI training program,” they worry it’ll replace human coaches, but that’s not the case with Humango. It’s designed to complement coaching, not replace it. Sure, you can use it to create your own training plan, but it doesn’t take away the human element that many athletes need.

There’s a lot you can do with Humango, which can be overwhelming if you don’t know where to start. You can track running, swimming, biking, and strength training, and it can create workouts and plans for each. You can tell it how much time per day (or week) you want to spend on a sport and what days you’re available, and it’ll build a plan tailored to your goals.

About Hugo

Humango’s virtual coaching assistant, Hugo, is powered by ChatGPT and serves as the platform’s AI engine. Hugo analyzes your training data and gives you real-time feedback and insights. It tracks your progress and helps you stay focused and motivated by visualizing improvements. You just enter your available training time, and Hugo creates a personalized plan for you. If life throws off your schedule, Hugo adjusts the plan to keep you on track for your next race or fitness goal.

My Experience with Humango

I first tried Humango at the start of summer. My main goal was to break 20 minutes in the 5K again, something I haven’t done in a while. At first, I found Humango a bit overwhelming because it has so many features. Is that a bad thing? Not really, but I wasn’t sure where to begin.

After playing around with it, I connected my watch, set my goals, and entered how much time I could commit to training. You can even specify how much you can work out each day, which is super helpful when plans change during the week. It will create workouts for whatever endurance sport you want including swimming, running, cycling, and even strength training.

What happens if you miss a workout or a week? You can “replan,” and it adjusts everything for you. This is especially useful if you’re running high mileage, get sick, and need a week off, or if life just happens. Spoiler: I did break 20 minutes in June!

Replanning is super easy

There is a social aspect, too, where you can add friends, join clubs, and see how others are doing. You can join clubs, but you don’t have too depending on your own preferences. Plus, coaches can create groups for their athletes too.

Humango has a workout library, but it also customizes workouts based on your goals. If you want to manually add your own workouts in you can do that too. I enjoyed some of the workouts because they are not things I would have done on my own. Everything Humango does is to help the athlete.

For those that love features and data, there are several graphs they display. Truly there are just so many different data options.

Humango Review

Overall, I’m a huge fan of Humango and how easy it makes things. If you’re someone who doesn’t need or want the hands-on attention of an in-person coach, Humango is a great option.

Cost

After a free 30-day trial, Humango offers four pricing tiers:

  • Free (Social): Join a community-focused plan where you can log activities, track progress, and connect with others.
  • $9 per month (Fitness): Get a customized plan to improve your general fitness or prepare for a 5K or 10K.
  • $19 per month (Endurance): Access running and cycling plans that adjust daily based on your fitness progress.
  • $29 per month (All-Star): Receive individualized triathlon plans tailored for half-distance, full-distance, and Olympic-distance races.

Humango is much more affordable than hiring a personal coach—but remember, it’s not meant to fully replace a human coach.

Humango Conclusion:

Overall, Humango is a great option for athletes looking for a flexible and data-driven training plan without the need for a hands-on coach. It offers a ton of features, from tracking multiple sports to creating customized plans based on your goals and availability. While it can feel a bit overwhelming at first, once you get the hang of it, the platform is effective. Whether you’re chasing a new PR or just staying active, Humango adapts to your needs and provides a unique option compared to traditional coaching options.
