Reebok Floatzig X1 Shoe Review

I was pumped to try the Reebok Floatzig X1. I think Reebok is one of the most underrated running brands out there, and I’ve been a big fan of their shoes for what feels like forever. This is their brand new carbon-plated shoe. Reebok has created carbon plated shoes in the past and the Reebok Floatride Energy X was one of my favorite carbon plated shoes at a price point.

Before trying the Floatzig X1, I had a few questions:

  • Does the Reebok Floatzig X1 have a carbon plate? Yes.
  • Does the Reebok Floatzig X1 fit true to size? Yes. I have wider feet and I haven’t had any issues.

Reebok Floatzig X1 Upper:

In my experience with newer Reebok running shoes, they’ve fit true to size. I haven’t had any issues with having to cram my slightly wider feet into them. The Reebok Floatzig X1 has a “streamlined speedshift upper” that ensures a locked-down fit. I’ve found it to be breathable, especially in the Mojave Desert summer. I can’t have any running shoes that don’t breathe well at this time of the year.

The best running shoe uppers disappear off your feet, and the Reebok Floatzig X1 does just that. The “targeted cushioning” in the collar provides comfort and support where Reebok claims it’s needed most. If you’ve never tried Reebok running shoes, the collar does fit a little bit higher than other brands. I was worried at first it would cause rubbing or chafing, but that hasn’t been the case, and I haven’t had any irritation so far.

In running shoes, I tend to wear between a women’s size 10-11 wide, and I’ve found the women’s size 11 to fit best in the Reebok Floatzig X1. The last is slightly long and narrow, so those with wider feet will likely appreciate going up a half size.

Reebok Floatzig X1 Ride:

The Floatzig X1 features a dual-density midsole with a full-length carbon plate. This is Reebok’s fastest shoe to date. The first run I did in it, I was not having a “fast day.” In fact, I felt like garbage and hoped that running in the shoe would help. It actually did; I felt fast. Then a few days later, I did a speed workout in them and felt good.

Compared to other brands, the Reebok Floatzig X1 feels a lot stiffer. I may argue it’s one of the stiffest shoes in the running industry. So far, I’ve done several runs in it and found it to be best for workouts and races (as it suggests). If you’re looking for a fast workout or race shoe, this is a great option. It also feels like there is a good amount of cushion, and it would be great in the later miles of a marathon.

Outsole:

In my opinion, Reebok outsoles are some of the most durable of any running brand. The Floatzig X1 features a durable 1.5 mm rubber outsole. You can see how thick it is. I’ve used them in inclement weather and on sandy trails with no issues of sliding around. If you’re looking for a rainy day racing shoe, these are a great option.

Reebok Floatzig X1 Conclusion:

The Floatzig X1 is a great option, especially at the price point. If you’ve wanted to try a carbon-plated shoe and not known where to start, this is a good one. I definitely think Reebok is an underrated brand that I wish more runners would try!

Who should buy the Reebok Floatzig X1? If you’re someone who likes stiffer carbon-plated shoes, this is a great option, especially for inclement weather days.

Who should not buy the Reebok Floatzig X1? I don’t really have a big reason you should “not buy it.” It’s not really designed for easy runs, so if you’re looking for a daily trainer, there are much better options.
