It’s hard to believe the year is halfway over. I’m a big fan of recap posts, and I thought it would be fun to share the top 5 road shoes so far. Keep in mind these are shoes I’ve tried, and it’s not sponsored. My experience is different than other people’s because no two feet are the same (even your left and right). If you want to learn more about running shoes and what to look for yourself, I wrote an ebook.
So What are Some of the Best Shoes (So Far) of 2022?
Saucony Triumph 19:
This is a workhorse of a trainer. If you are looking for a shoe that can do it all, including easy runs and picking up the pace, the Saucony Triumph is a great option. It’s lightweight with plenty of cushion and responsive enough to pick up the pace. There is a reason Saucony has successfully made 19 versions.
On Cloudmonster:
The On Cloudmonster is a brand new maximum cushioned shoe from On. It’s gotten more responses than any other running shoe review, and that’s pretty much because of how it looks. I think On did a great job with this. There is plenty of cushion while still being lightweight. If you have wanted to try the brand On but needed a wider shoe or more cushion, the On Cloudmonster is an excellent option.
Reebok Floatride Energy 4:
Not many people think of Reebok as a running shoe, but they’ve come a long way in the last few years. I’ve been a big fan of the Floatride series, and the Floatride Energy 4 does not disappoint. It’s a daily trainer shoe competing against shoes like the Brooks Ghost, Saucony Ride, or New Balance 880. Not only is the Reebok Floatride Energy 4 a great shoe, but it’s also only $110.
Altra Vanish Carbon:
This brand new carbon-plated shoe is different from every other brand because it’s a zero-drop carbon-plated shoe. Most carbon-plated shoes are high stack heights to add more cushion; Altra remains low and true to their brand. If you’ve found no other carbon-plated shoe that works for you or wants something more natural, you’ll appreciate the Altra Vanish Carbon.
Hoka Mach Supersonic:
The Hoka Mach Supersonic is a fun and faster version of the Hoka Mach 4. Maybe not as much dedicated to the Mach Supersonic, but Hoka has put out a lot of good shoes over the last year, and they definitely have more coming out in the back half.
Anyway, these are just five of my favorite road shoes so far in 2022. I’m looking forward to seeing what the year’s second half brings because the bar is high.

What is a shoe you want to try?
we just received the newest Saucony in the store…the Tempus…I’m not a huge Saucony person, they look like a Hoka?…so am tempted…my top shoe right now is the On Swift, I’m still a Brooks person, but, yeah, I sell ’em so I have to buy them…..
Kinda feel like you left an Adidas model off this list, simply to spite me. Oh, hai, saw the newest pre-release (at least I think it is) edition of the Brooks Glycerine with the NITROGEN INFUSED MIDSOLE and it does look pretty awesome!
