People often ask: “what are the best headphones for running”?
Is there a best headphone for running?
Are shokz headphones the best headphones for running?
Several different models and types of headphones won’t fall or annoy you. Plus, most quality headphones these days are Bluetooth, so you don’t have to worry about cords.
The common answer people give for the best headphones for running is shokz (formally known as afteshokz). This is partially because there are so many “shokz ambassadors and influencers.” Do I think shokz is good? Yes, but I can’t say they are the best or the safest. I also had an issue that both were out of warranty. Despite contacting them, they could not help. So I do think Shokz has flaws and is not perfect.
Finally, no headphone is “the safest.” You’ll still sacrifice hearing some of the outside world even with over-the-ear headphones.
So with that, and it’s not made to be a rant, let’s dive into some of the best headphones for running.
What are the Best Headphones for Running?
Bose Sport Earbuds
Are Bose Sport Earbuds the best headphones for running?
The Bose Sport Earbuds have some of the best sound quality around. You have the ability to tune in and out ambient noise. What does that mean? You can let outside noise in to hear your outside surroundings better. Plus, the sound quality is the best of any running headphones out there. The downside? They are expensive, and you have to be careful not to lose the small earbuds.
Shokz:
Are Shokz the best headphones for running?
Based on the intro, it might seem like I dislike Shokz, but I don’t. I’ve used them on and off for years. Plus, I was one of the first people to begin using their early models way back in 2016. I’ve written several reviews about Shokz headphones, including Aeropex and Xtrainerz. Shokz is designed to go outside of your ear. This means you can hear outside noise better, and you can hear your outside surroundings more. What is the downside? The sound quality is not as good as many other headphones. You can hear your music or podcasts, but the sound quality is just not as good.
Dormi Headphones:
Are Dormi Headphones the best headphones for running?
At just $60, the Dormi Headphones are similar to Shokz in that they play music outside of your ear. They are a headband and don’t look like “traditional” headphones. I like that they are discreet. What are the drawbacks? With Dormi Headphones, the music can be heard outside of your ears. If you play it at full volume, others can hear it (but it’s not also as loud as traditional speakers). The other drawback is that it’s a headband so that it can get hot in the warmer months.
There are so many great running headphones out there, and it’s all about what works best for you. The best running headphone is just what works the best and makes you feel the safest. No headphone is 100% safe for running outdoors, but headphones have come a long way to let ambient noise in.
