Recently I tried Nuun Recover. It’s one of the last types of Nuun I haven’t tried. I’ve been a fan of Nuun for a while now, and a few reviews I wrote about include:
- “Regular” Nuun
- Nuun Prime
- Nuun Instant
- Nuun Endurance
I liked some of the various types more than others, but I was excited to try the Nuun Recover. As I get back into running, one of my goals is to focus more on recovering. Unlike the other options, the Recover has more calories, and I thrive on something with calories. I appreciate the “regular” Nuun for my day to day life but working out and post-run, I do prefer something with calories.
About Nuun:
First, Nuun is pronounced: “Noon.” It was the first company to separate electrolyte replacement from carbohydrates (which lowered the calories). It also resulted in a healthier electrolyte beverage. There are a time and a place when our body needs sugar to survive and run well, but it isn’t all of the time. During the day, most runners don’t need sugary sports drinks. The Nuun Endurance is the type of Nuun that does contain calories.
Over the last decade, Nuun has come a long way in hydration. They are well known by many runners and have developed several new products.

My Experience with Nuun Recover:
As the name suggests, I opted to take it after a workout. While coming back to running, everything feels hard. (HA). Anyway, I mixed as suggested and took it after a run.
Taste: If you’ve never tasted any Nuun product, they are much more toned down and mild than most competitors. They aren’t going to taste super sweet. If you’re someone who likes the taste of mild fizzy water, they are going to be for you. Usually I prefer something more sweet, but I don’t mind Nuun.
I was surprised when I mixed it and the liquid turned bright pink. Many Nuun products remain clear and bubbly.
There are two different flavors, the blackberry lemon and lemonade. Intersting they chose two lemon flavors because that isn’t for everyone. Both tasted fine to me. Sometimes brands have too much lemon and it feels overpowering and hard to breathe. Luckily, this isn’t the case. I liked both flavors and appreciated they were much more mild than the typical lemon flavor. I’m *more* of a fan of the Blackberry Lemonade, but each of them taste good.
I did find my body felt a lot better on days I used Nuun Recover directly after a run. It wasn’t a miracle worker, but I did find consistently using it made me feel better. Like any recovery product, you won’t just magically feel better from drinking Nuun Recover once, but if you do it consistently, you will.
Cost: $35 for a 12 packet or $34 for a 20 serving canister
The obvious price difference between the packets and canister make the canister a much better deal. Either product is on the more expensive side of hydration and recovery products with the 12 packets being expensive.
Nuun Recover Conclusion:
I like the Nuun Recover and I do find myself recovering faster on days I use it. While it’s not cheap, it’s a good option for those looking for a mild flavor for their electrolyte drink mixes.
