Shampoo and Face Wash! Why would I review that…this is, after all, an athletic blog…Not beauty or lifestyle.
But…
If you’ve ever gotten into the pool, you know the pool destroys your hair and skin. Who wants chlorine damaged hair? The swimming pool and pool chemicals can be ruthless in your hair and your skin.
There is a reason you can’t get your hair done and go into the pool for 48 hours. The chlorine and bromine can wreak havoc on your hair. While, thankfully, my hair has never turned green because of chemicals, I also don’t have light blonde hair either.
Some of the common questions I get are: What is the best swimmer shampoo? How do I keep chlorine out of my hair? How can I protect my hair as much as possible while swimming?
First, wear a swim cap. I get it, swim caps don’t look cute but wear one and it keeps a lot of chlorine out of your hair. The best way to put on a swim cap is to wet your hair first and then put it on. That way you don’t damage your hair more.
Second, get swimmer shampoo. Like shampoo for specific hair colors and types, there is shampoo and consider made for swimmers. Specific shampoo for swimmers removes chlorinated water far better than the standard shampoo. Yes, swimmer shampoo can be more expensive, but it’s specifically made to keep your hair in better condition.
After swimming for 15 years, I’ve tried a fair amount of swimmer shampoo and some works better than others.
While getting back in the pool, I decided to try TRIHARD Shampoo:
One thing I’ve noticed with some shampoos for swimmers is that some smell terrible. I’ve had a few in the past that smells as if I got a bad perm. Luckily TRiHard Shampoo smells good.
A few unique components of TRIHARD Shampoo:
The TRIHARD team was established in 2013 as a Multi-Sport team with a focus on Swimmers, Triathletes, Runners and Cyclists. Now, in 2020, TRIHARD is one of the biggest Multi-Sport teams in Europe and the Middle East. There are over 250 endurance athletes across five countries. So if TRIHard Shampoo is good for their own team, it must be good for those spending an hour or two in the pool a day (like me).
I don’t know of another shampoo company that has a professional racing team.
The Short Ingredient List:
TRIHARD Shampoo has a short ingredient list, including Aloe Vera, Menthol, Sea Buckthorn Oil and Keratin. Each helps to remove chlorine odors entirely as well as hydrate dry hair. TRIHard Shampoo is made with all-natural ingredients and also paraben-free.
TRIHARD Works with Paloma Dead Sea, a well-experienced R&D company in the body care industry. According to TRIHARD, “Listen. Develop. Test. Refine.” with their athletes and a new product doesn’t come out until it’s achieved 5-star quality with their athletes.
Wow, that is a lot just for Swimmer Shampoo and Conditioner!
So does TRIHARD Shampoo work?
The most important part of the entire review, do TRIHARD Shampoo remove chlorine from your hair? The short answer is yes. I’ve used TRIHARD a few times and I’ve found it gentle on hair and it removes the chlorine and odor. You don’t have to worry about hair loss or damage to your hair cuticles.
While I don’t do anything with my hair anymore (as far as coloring), it is safe for color-treated hair as well.
TRIHARD Face Wash:
I can never say no to a good face wash, so I decided to try the TRIHARD Swim & Sport Facial Wash. As someone who goes to the dermatologist a couple of times per year, my skin is not the best. It’s sensitive and I’m very particular with the kind and type I use.
TRIHARD Swim & Sport Facial Wash also has a short ingredient list including Sea Minerals, Vitamin E, Sweet Almond Oil and Menthol. This combination helps to exfoliate post-chlorine dead skin, hydrate after-swim dry skin and remove chlorine odors. (When I used to swim competitively, I swear the smell of chlorine was permeated into my skin).
I found the TRIHard Swim & Sport Facial Wash to really remove the smell of chlorine and was good for sensitive skin. I didn’t break out and my skin felt a lot better on days I used the TRIHARD Face Wash.
In all, if you’re looking for a shampoo for swimmers or face wash, I would highly suggest TRIHARD. It’s excellent for chlorine removal and won’t leave you with the dreaded swimmer’s hair or dry skin.
TRIHARD also sent me a code LOLZ.Trihard so can save 15% off.

Questions for you:
Swimmers and triathletes: What kind of shampoo for swimmers do you use? Have you ever struggled with swimmer’s hair?
This sounds great! I was always curious how swimmers washed their hair. I personally cannot swim, ha.
HA! I bet your daughter would be great at swimming.
I don’t swim often, but I am glad that there is a shampoo for people that do. I know chlorine is really bad for hair over time.
It is, when I used to swim competitively, my hair left a lot to be desired LOL.
Perfect product for my daughter who swims regularly! Is there a conditioner too?
Not right now, but there is a body wash too.
I had swimmers hair before. So I know that certain shampoos are a must for swimmers
Yes! Having straw hair is the worst.
I’m not a person who loves doing sports, but I’ve got friends who love swimming! They would appreciate that shampoo for sure! 🙂
You’ll have to let me know if they end up liking it!
These products sound great. We have a pool in the back yard, so I’ve always been digging into products to counteract the chlorine. I use a swimmers cap pretty regularly (my hair is dyed with a semi-permanent, so the chlorine would strip it massively), but my skin pays the price throughout the summer lol
That’s awesome about your backyard pool. I used to color my hair but have gotten lazy the last few years. TRIHARD would definitely be something to look into.
Looking into the ingredients of the products, I think Im going to love them! Nice review…
Yes! I appreciate how short the ingredient list is too.
ugh my blonde hair gets destroyed by chlorine! In college I dreaded my aquatics class all winter long because my hair was always so dry and icky. I’ll have to suggest this to my student who is now taking the same class.
I can only imagine with blonde hair. You’ll have to let me know if she tries it!
Thank you for the insight! I’d never heard of this brand.
Of course Kristyn!
Swimmer’s hair is the worst! I live in Florida and chlorine destroys my hair. I’m going to have to check this out!
Oh, I can only imagine! You’ll have to let me know if you do Shannon.
Its great to have a shampoo like Trihard which can actually remove chlorine from your hair as chlorine causes a lot of damage to the hair.
For sure, it can be difficult to find a shampoo that actually works.
I will have to look into this more! I love to swim and I plan on spending a ton of time at the aquatic center this summer.
Let me know if you do Tia, it’s awesome!
These sound like great products for swimmers. And just in time for summer!
Yes! Hopefully, the pools will be open again.
Those products sound great! I don’t swim often but I feel like Id still love those products!
I was not aware there was different shampoos for swimmers! I wish I would have known that when I was a kid. I think I spent every waking minute of my childhood in a pool. Well almost all of it. growing up in Arizona you get 2/3 of the year as swim time!
Yes! I grew up as a swimmer and we never knew either.
Great product as there are very few Shampoos that deal with chlorine
Yes, and it’s hard to find a good one that works for you.
I never even knew that they made specific shampoo for swimmer’s hair. I love swimming too, but you’re right. It’s so hard on your hair.
I notice a difference from using a chlorine removal specific shampoo!
I can’t imagine having to shampoo my hair from swimming everyday. I’ve never heard of this brand, but I’m glad it works for you and many others.
Yeah, it’s a definite must otherwise your hair will be damaged from the chlorine!
