The Skratch Labs Hyper Hydration was the last of the three products I tried from the brand. As I mentioned in earlier posts with the chews and wellness hydration, I’ve been looking for new hydration products to keep me hydrated while running and living in the desert.
Both the desert climate and the higher elevation make everything so dry. I’ve never found myself more thirsty and less hydrated. It’s crazy because I always feel like I’m hydrating, but it never seems to be enough.
About Skratch Labs:
According to the website: “Skratch labs makes sports nutrition designed to help you perform better without offending your gut or your taste buds because we use real food, starting from scratch.”
Skratch Labs began in professional cycling. While working as a sports scientist and coach,Β Dr. Allen Lim began making his own training food and sports drinks from scratch. He was tired of the artificial ingredients that made many cyclists sick to their stomach.
His first creation was the “secret drink mix.” He also began diluting sports drinks to lower the sugar concentration while also adding extra salt and electrolytes. His “secret drink mix” used a recipe with less sugar, more sodium, and no artificial sweeteners, flavors, or colors. It even used natural fruit!
As word got out about the “secret drink mix,” it was clear that there was a demand for it. To meet the demand, Dr. Allen Lim put together a team and created Skratch Labs.
About Skratch Labs Hyper Hydration:
As the name suggests, the Skratch Labs Hyper Hydration mix has more. It is a high sodium mix when you cannot replace your electrolytes any other way. It actually has more sodium than a bag of potato chips. Unlike other Skratch Lab products, the Skratch Labs Hyper Hydration is not designed for hanging out or everyday use. It is intended for strenuous workouts that you need electrolytes fast. Think about your races, workouts, or extreme temperatures. It actually has 75% of your daily salt intake in one serving.

My Experience with Skratch Labs Hyper Hydration:
I was honestly slightly nervous to consume the Hyper Hydration. The amount of salt content worried me that it might upset my stomach. I didn’t want to risk it trying for the first time during a workout and certainly not during a race.
Despite it saying it’s not for “everyday use,” I decided to take a sip during the day to see how my body responded. With such a high salt amount, I was worried it might be “too much” during a strenuous workout.
My initial experience with the Skratch Labs Hyper Hydration was good. I mixed with water as suggested and drank about half. I didn’t have any stomach issues.
I was shocked when I mixed it together, and it was a neon yellow color. I wasn’t expecting it to be “that bright,” so when it came out, it surprised me. It mixes well, and you don’t have to worry about it being “too gritty” or flaky. It was just shocking of how bright the color was.
Flavor:
The Hyper Hydration comes in Passion Fruit. I admit passion fruit isn’t always my first choice in flavors, but desperate times call for desperate measures. It didn’t taste bad. It was fruity, and you could definitely taste the salt. If you are someone that thrives on the taste of salt, you’ll;l love the passion fruit. I neither hated nor loved it, but it was easy to mix and didn’t taste terrible. I don’t go in with the intention of “loving” any electrolyte beverage. The passion fruit flavor is above average, just salty.
The second experience I decided to use while out in Los Angeles in the hills. Believe it or not, it gets extremely hot in the hills of Los Angeles. Even in December, it was already over 80 degrees. Wow. I used it halfway through my journey, and I could 100% feel the difference in not having it but against other electrolyte mixes too. If you are looking for the most bang for your buck with electrolytes, this is a good option.
Cost: $
The Skratch Labs Hyper Hydration doesn’t come cheap, and it’s $2.95 for one package or $23.50 for 8.
Conclusion/Overall Thoughts of Skratch Labs Hyper Hydration:
The Skratch Labs Hyper Hydration is a great product, but like many of the Skratch Lab products, it’s fairly expensive. It’s something I see myself using more in extreme heat or during strenuous efforts during the summer versus everyday use. If the cost doesn’t bother you, it’s something I could see myself using more often!
