HungryRoot Review

I was excited to try HungryRoot. I’m always looking for meal delivery services that come prepared so I don’t have to cook. I like eating relatively healthy, but it can be hard when you work at an office, and packing my own lunches does not excite me.

HungryRoot isn’t your typical “meal delivery service.” You can purchase meal kits, prepared meals, and even groceries. It was honestly kind of confusing the first time I tried to order. When ordering your meals, you’ll simply choose options you like, and it will lump all of the ingredients in to make. Although, your prepared meals will come as is.

My Experience with HungryRoot

Ordering Process

Before ordering anything, HungryRoot has you take a comprehensive quiz to understand your home’s eating habits. This quiz covers:

  • Household size
  • Dietary needs (keto, dairy-free, plant-based, gluten-free, pescatarian, etc.)
  • Dietary goals (grocery shop less, try new things, simplify cooking, lose weight, waste less food)
  • Flavor, cuisine, and ingredient preferences
  • Dislikes
  • Breakfast, Lunch, Snack, and Dessert Options
  • Kids Snacks
  • Kitchen Equipment and Preparation

Based on your responses, HungryRoot recommends a weekly meal plan tailored to your preferences. I actually noticed it has a ton of options for those looking to go gluten-free or vegan. It even greys out foods that do not follow your dietary needs. You can choose them, of course, but it’s very apparent those won’t meet your needs.

Finally, how easy is it to cancel HungryRoot? It is very easy to cancel or skip meals, you can just go to your plan and do so.

Grocery Shopping with HungryRoot

Once your first order is set up, you can start shopping. The more expensive your plan, the more credits you receive, which can be spent on meal kits, snacks, and grocery items. I was really confused by the 47 on my account until I figured out each item at the grocery store costs a certain amount of credits.

HungryRoot Meals I Tried

As mentioned, I like the prepared foods the best, so I mostly went with those. These are just a few meals I tried, but there were several more.

Smoked Salmon Sweet Kale Salad

This was a meal that you prepared, and I found it to taste good. It really just came with two ingredients: smoked salmon and a salad package. The salad package contained actual salad, dressing, and a few crunchies to enjoy. I mixed it in a bowl and went. The smoked salmon was a bit tougher than I anticipated (maybe just the skin), but in all, this became one of my favorite healthy lunches.

Cafe Spice Cauliflower Potato Curry + Saffron Rice

This was another HungryRoot meal I had after work, and it was tasty. It was a bit more spicy than I preferred, but even without meat, I found myself full for the rest of the day.

Tucson Tamale Company Green Chile Chicken Tamale

I really enjoyed how easy to heat up and how tasty this was. I had it for a snack before going swimming, and it tasted great. It wasn’t too filling, so it didn’t feel weird in my stomach. I appreciated that it wasn’t over-the-top spicy either.

HungryRoot Review

In all, I liked all of the HungryRoot meals I tried. I do wish they had more prepared options because I can see it getting really boring with the same few meals every week.

HungryRoot Conclusion

HungryRoot is a flexible, affordable, and easy-to-integrate meal delivery service that can fit into various lifestyles. It’s an excellent choice for anyone wanting to meal prep and eat healthily without the hassle of extensive food storage. Or those who hate grocery shopping (a la me). The ability to pick and choose items each week without being tied to a specific meal plan is a significant advantage.

Who Should Not Buy HungryRoot Meals?

I don’t really have a specific reason not to, although I think it could get pretty boring eating the same meals every week, especially if you want the prepared meals.
