Suunto Wing Headphones Review

Suunto Wing Headphones Review

I was excited to try the Suunto Wing Headphones. I’ve been looking for a new pair of headphones. Wireless is needed, as well as being lightweight and having good battery life. I use my headphones for everything from cleaning the house to running and working out. I knew Suunto made watches, but didn’t realize they even made headphones until recently. Before trying the Suunto Wing Headphones, I had a few questions:

  • Are the Suunto Wing Headphones good? Yes.
  • Are the Suunto Wing Headphones’ sound quality good? Yes. You will be able to hear outside noises because they go over the ear, not in.
  • How do the Suunto Wing Headphones compare to the Shokz? I have a lot of thoughts on Shokz, but since I’ve broken 3 pairs in the last 5-6 years (just out of warranty), I thought I would try something new. I think the Suunto Wing Headphones are better (more on that later).

My experience with the Suunto Wing:

The Suunto Wing is Suunto’s first journey into the wireless Bluetooth headphones. Unlike traditional headphones, the Suunto Wing Headphones use bone conduction technology. This means that the headphones sit outside of your ear, instead of directly in the ear. While that also means the sound quality may not be as good, it is the safer option for those who work out outside.

What is bone conduction technology? Bone conduction technology transmits sound through vibrations directly to the cochlea via the bones, keeping the ear canal open to ambient sounds. This technology ensures users remain alert to potential hazards, such as vehicles, wildlife, or other environmental sounds, enhancing safety during outdoor activities. For me, it’s especially important with the desert wildlife.

The IP67 certification ensures durability against water exposure, and the lightweight titanium and silicone construction ensures comfort without sacrificing quality.

Included in the package are the headset, charging dock, a cable, manual, and earplugs for use in noisy environments, enhancing the listening experience without isolating the user from their surroundings.

Using the Suunto Wing:

The Suunto Wing Headphones have a user-friendly design with its button layout, making operation easy. Plus, what makes the Suunto Wing Headphone different is the head movement control. You’re able to change songs, volume with simple head movements. Using this feature is easy and you don’t have to exaggerate your head movements to get the results and changes you’re looking for.

Pairing with devices is quick and hassle-free. In fact, I couldn’t find the paper to tell me how to pair the device to my phone, but I guessed and guessed correctly. The intuitive button functions allow for easy control over power, pairing, volume adjustments, and track navigation.

Voice command functionality and the dual microphones ensure clear communication, essential for hands-free operation. Despite its slightly heavier design compared to traditional earbuds, the Wing remains comfortable and secure, even during rigorous activities. Even while running 20+ miles, I haven’t had any issues with the Suunto Wing Headphones feeling too heavy or annoying.

The App:

Everything has an app these days right? You don’t need the app, but you will have a better experience if you us the app. You can change your preferred sound mode or switch the LED lights to a different mode. With the app, you have more control of your headphones.

Sound Quality:

While the Wing excels in delivering clear audio for podcasts, audiobooks, and phone calls, there is a small difference in the audio quality of music. For me, while working out, I don’t really notice. You will always have that issue with bone conduction headphones.

Battery Life and Charging:

The Suunto Wing Headphones offer 10 hours of playback on a single charge, with the charging base providing an additional 20 hours. Plus, the speed at which it charges is incredible. There is no USB-C charging cable included, but with so many things using that now, I didn’t have an issue.

Price: $200

At $200, the Suunto Wing Headphones are one of the more expensive headphone options out now, but I haven’t had an issue with them and I do think they’re worth the cost.

Are the Suunto Wing headphones as good as Shokz?

Yes, I think so. They are lightweight and I’ve found the Suunto Wing Headphones to have better sound quality and to be more comfortable. The Wing Headphones are more expensive but I think the price is worth it.

Suunto Wing Headphones Conclusion:

If you are someone who is active/works out, consider the Suunto Wing Headphones. They’re great headphones for those running or working out, especially outdoors.

Who should buy the Suunto Wing Headphones? If you are someone looking for high-quality headphones for working out or running, or even just completing daily tasks.

Who should not buy the Suunto Wing Headphones? If you put a strong emphasis on sound and music quality, these are not the headphones for you. If you want noise-canceling headphones, they are not the headphones for you.
