I was excited to try the UnTapped Ginger Mapleaid Liquid. I am a huge fan of other UnTapped Nutrition products and wrote a review here. A simple google search for UnTapped will probably find the Untapped Beer App. UnTapped Nutrition and Untapped Beer are not the same…but maybe you can use either for fueling.
In case you wondered, UnTapped Nutrition is written as “UnTapped,” not Untapped.” I’ve loved ginger flavors lately, so the Ginger Mapleaid Liquid really spoke to me.
About the brand UnTapped:
How Did UnTapped Nutrition Begin?
UnTapped Nutrition began both on a bike and a pair of skis. The founder and professional cyclist, Ted King, and the Cochran family of professional alpine skiers gravitated to maple syrup.
Maple syrup is natural and simple, and they found maple syrup met their needs. They founded UnTapped Nutrition in 2013. To understand more about Untapped Gels and Nutrition, we must understand maple syrup.
About UnTapped Ginger Mapleaid Liquid:
To understand the UnTapped Ginger Mapleaid Liquid, you must first understand why UnTapped uses maple syrup and its properties.
- Pure maple syrup is produced by removing water from maple sap. This allows maple syrup to be sweet but not artificially sweetened ingredients.
- Maple syrup is low glycemic: Since maple syrup contains all-natural sugars, it gives sustained energy rather than a quick burst and crash.
- Maple syrup contains several minerals, including Calcium, Riboflavin, Manganese, Zinc, and Potassium. We learned in the newsletter to help promote energy production, prevent cramping, and muscle recovery.
- Maple syrup features over 50 antioxidants.
- Maple syrup contains amino acids, which help prevent muscle deterioration.
- Finally, maple syrup is water-soluble, which makes it easy to digest.
It’s no wonder that UnTapped Nutrition wanted to use naturally occurring real maple syrup in their products.
So what makes the UnTapped Ginger Mapleaid Liquid different?
It’s made with pure, unrefined maple sugar. The drink mix has plenty of naturally occurring vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and antioxidants.
There are two different UnTapped Mapleaid Liquid Flavors:
- Lemon-Tea designed with a citrus taste from real lemons
- Ginger Mapleaid: A strong ginger flavor but extremely sweet.
You’ll be surprised to find these come in a liquid concentrate. Unlike many powdered drink mixes, this is liquid, and you mix. UnTapped recommends adding the UnTapped Mapleaid Liquid before water to reduce foam.
You’d expect that something made with maple syrup would be extremely high in calories. Before actually reading the back, I assumed it had 300+, but it has 80 per serving, not to overload your system.
My Experience with UnTapped Mapleaid Liquid:
I am a big fan of UnTapped products and appreciate their use of natural sources. Plus, as someone who spent substantial time in upstate New York, I can’t help but root for another northeast brand. I mixed the UnTapped Mapleaid Liquid with 12 ounces of water as suggested. When it comes out, it’s a thick orange to yellow color. Even with diluting it, it remains opaque.
My first time trying it was on a low-stress hike. I wanted to ensure it sat in my stomach well before taking it out on bigger adventures. I knew the UnTapped Ginger Mapleaid Liquid would be sweet, but it is by far the sweetest liquid mix I’ve drank. You can definitely taste the maple syrup. That being said, I am a huge fan and prefer sweeter products, so it tasted great.
I will use the UnTapped Ginger Mapleaid Liquid in the coming weeks for easy trail runs and faster and harder workouts. It has sat in my stomach well every time, and I haven’t had any issues with it. Plus, it’s probably my favorite flavor of drink mix yet.
Cost:
You can order one package for $1.95 or 20 servings for $31.95. It’s not the most expensive drink mix out there.
UnTapped Ginger Mapleaid Liquid Conclusion:
I am a big fan of the UnTapped Ginger Mapleaid Liquid, and I’ll continue to use it in my everyday training. Remember that it’s extremely sweet, so if that’s not your preference, you might not be as big of a fan as I am.
