LMNT Review

LMNT hydration

If you’ve never heard of LMNT or don’t know what it means, don’t worry. Before trying it, I had no idea either. But in my quest to stay hydrated in the desert, I’ve started trying every electrolyte out there, and LMNT kept coming up as a recommendation.

What is LMNT?

Funny enough, it’s tough to even find out what LMNT stands for. Digging around the website, I found it buried, and it means Licensed Medical Nutrition Therapy. Will anyone care what it stands for? Probably not, but I would think there would be an about page with that simple tidbit of knowledge.

LMNT is an electrolyte mix with all of the electrolytes you need and none of the garbage you don’t. There isn’t any extra sugar either, so it’s easy to drink during the day too.

What doesn’t it have?

  • No Sugar
  • No Gluten
  • No Fillers
  • No Artificial Ingredients

What Makes LMNT Different?

Most popular electrolyte drinks have low amounts of electrolytes. LMNT Recharge gives you more electrolytes in the ideal ratio.

1000 mg Sodium
200 mg Potassium
60 mg Magnesium

How did the company LMNT begin?

The founder, Robbe, wanted to get to the next level of Jiu-jitsu. While he was tinkering with nutrition, he felt his performance was holding him back, and he needed something. It turns out he needed more salt and more electrolytes. He was consuming salt, but it turns out he was consuming much less than he anticipated.

He began tinkering with different ratios, and once he perfected his electrolytes, the results were clear. He had more energy during jiu-jitsu, slept better, and felt his brain functioning on new levels. At the time, he found most options were high in sugar but lacking in actual electrolytes. That forced him to make his own mixes and how he started LMNT. The result was an electrolyte drink with everything you need and nothing you don’t.

My Experience with LMNT:

After reading up on LMNT, it felt like a lot of talk. With such low sugar, would I actually feel better on runs? LMNT is easy to mix. I quickly poured one of the packets into a water bottle and tried some before heading up. I didn’t really need any nasty surprises mid-run. To my delight, LMNT tasted good right out off the bat. It wasn’t too sweet but also had a distinct flavor that tasted good.

I’ve tried most of the flavors, and none of them taste bad. When they dissolve, they are foggy and opaque.

While running, I did feel the positive effects after drinking LMNT as well. In the desert, I feel the effects of almost all electrolyte mixes. I can’t think of a time I was running, and I thought, “this did nothing.” That wasn’t the case on the East Coast. With LMNT, I find a lot more energy, and it’s become one of my go-to staples during a run.

Cost:

You knew there had to a downside, right? LMNT is one of the more costly electrolyte mixes. You can get a box of 120 sticks for $135 or subscribe and save for $117.

LMNT Conclusion:

LMNT definitely does exactly what it says it will. You feel a lot more hydrated and feel better after consuming. I enjoy using it, but it won’t become my staple electrolyte mix with the cost.
