While in Sacramento, I knew I wanted to go to Rick’s Dessert Diner. To be honest, a diner that only serves dessert seems like a dream to me. My favorite thing to order at diners is cake anyway!
Rick’s has been voted the number 1 place for dessert in Sacramento for several years.
Rick’s Dessert Diner Atmosphere: A
Rick’s is located in downtown Sacramento. It’s an old-school, metallic diner and sticks out on the main street. You can’t miss it. When you walk in, it’s immediately like a blast from the past.
It is metallic and vintage signs inside, with red booths and tables everywhere. If you are looking for a stereotypical diner, this is it.
Rick’s Dessert Diner Food: A
Rick’s Dessert Diner only serves dessert. You won’t find anything but that, and they have plenty of cookies, cake, and other homemade goodies. Every single cake in the dessert case looked good. It took me a long time to figure out what I wanted. Rick’s specializes in a European-style menu. Their recipes and ingredients originate from France, Italy, Germany, Sweden, England, Spain, Switzerland, and early America. Who knew cakes and diners could be so fancy?
They have everything from gluten-free cakes to tortes and tarts, cheesecakes, and cookies. You can see the full Rick’s Dessert Diner menu here.
Like a bakery, you can also order a specialized cake. They even make wedding cakes. What a dream to have your wedding cake from a diner (I am serious!).
Ultimately, I decided to try the black forest cake, and wow, it was good. The black forest cake was a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and cherries. I have zero complaints, and it was one of the best cakes I’ve had. (If you know me, you know that is a BIG DEAL to say).
Rick’s Dessert Diner Service: A
At Rick’s, you walk in, order at the counter, and then wait as they package up your dessert. The employees were friendly, and the cake came out quickly. I have no complaints.
The entire restaurant was clean, and all safety COVID precautions were taking place.
Rick’s Dessert Diner Cost:
For my cake, it was $8. Expensive, but worth it.
Overall Thoughts/Would I Come Back?
Rick’s Dessert Diner is my new favorite spot in Sacramento, and I will definitely be back. I really enjoyed the cake. It’s one of the best cakes I’ve had. I highly recommend if you are in Sacramento (even for CIM)…would I run CIM to be back in Sac and eat Rick’s? Maybe…Seriously, I highly suggest it and have nothing but positive things to say.
You can see more diners here.
