Nathan Terra Fire 300 R LED Hand Torch Review

Nathan Terra Fire 300 R LED Hand Torch

The Nathan Terra Fire 300 R LED Hand Torch is a handheld flashlight to help you run safer in the dark. It’s a long name to say flashlight made for running.

Occasionally I start my runs in the dark. I don’t love it, but I also try and be as safe as possible. I suffer from migraines, which rules out headlamps. Heck, some headbands are too tight and cause me to get a headache. So I’m always looking for safer options.

Nathan Terra Fire 300 R LED Hand Torch is easy to use flashlight made for running. Sure, you can use a “regular” flashlight, but the Nathan Terra Fire 300 is a lot easier to hold. The easier a running flashlight is too old, the more likely you are to use it.

What makes the Nathan Terra Fire 300 R LED Hand Torch different?

The Nathan Terra Fire 300 has an adjustable hand strap that allows for a grip-free carry in either hand. The Terra Fire is built with a  downward projection angle of light. This allows you to run naturally and cast light on the road in front of you. It also has a built-in whistle if you are in distress or alert others.

Here are a few features of the Nathan Terra Fire 300 R LED Hand Torch:

  • Long-Lasting Light: The Nathan Terra Fire 300 can be used for 40 hours on low, 24 hours on medium, and 9 hours on high.
  • Water Resistant: Whether you are running in rain, snow, or sleet, you don’t have to worry about it.
  • Grip Free for Both Hands: This allows you to run without worrying about scrunching your hand.
  • 120 DB Alarm: This might be my favorite feature. The alarm can be heard from over 500 feet away.

What does the “300” Mean?

The Nathan Terra Fire 300 means 300 max lumens. What are lumens? Lumens measure lights intensity.

With running flashlights, headlamps, or anything you are using to run at night, you want to look for something with at least 200 lumens. If you are running on trails or pitch-black nights, a running flashlight with at least 300 lumens is better. You can’t really ever be too safe, though.

If you are looking for more light, you can try the Terra Fire 400 Running Flashlight. Less light, the Zephyr 200 is a good option for running flashlights.

My Experience with Nathan Terra Fire 300 R LED Hand Torch:

It’s an easy-to-learn handheld flashlight. The Terra Fire takes 2 AA batteries. Put them in, and you are ready to go.

My one complaint is that you need to press and hold the on button. I didn’t realize this, and after fumbling around and thinking I had a defective flashlight, I finally got it to work.

I’ve run with flashlights before, and while they are not terrible, I wanted something designed for running. I appreciate how bright the Terra Fire is without blinding others. I felt relaxed and comfortable while using it.

Finally, the Terra Fire comes with a whistle. I always run with my cell phone, but you never know when something can and will happen. Whether you are on the trails with animals or whether someone is giving you unwanted attention. It’s a great feature for a running flashlight. The whistle is located on the end and can pop out when needed.

I personally prefer to use my Terra Fire on the brightest setting, but I am also one who uses their cell phone screen on the brightest setting.

Comfort Factor:

The Nathan Terra Fire 300 R LED Hand Torch is easy to run with. It attaches to your wrist like no big deal and you’re good to go. Some flashlights are bulky, and you worry about dropping them, but the Terra Fire is easy to carry.

Cost:

The Nathan Terra Fire 300 is $44.95. It’s not that expensive for a quality running flashlight that does everything you want and needs comfortably. Plus, not many (if any) running flashlights have a whistle.

Nathan Terra Fire 300 R LED Hand Torch Conclusion:

I like the Nathan Terra Fire 300, and it’s a great running light if you find yourself running in the dark. I’ll definitely continue to use it. Minus realizing you needed to hold the power button, I haven’t had any issues with it. If you spend any time in the dark, I highly suggest the Terra Fire.
