Next Stop: Montgomery, AL

As you read this, I am on the 1000 mile road to Montgomery, Alabama.  I’ll be living there for the next 6 weeks. montgomery, alabama

Due to my husband’s job, we will be residing down there for the next 6-8 weeks.  It came up last minute so instead of mentioning it when we found out (about 3 weeks ago), we chose to keep it quiet.  With anything in the military, things can change last minute, so you never know.

We told family and a few friends but other than that we didn’t tell a whole heck of a lot of people.  But if you don’t blog about it, it never happened right?

Of course, I feel guilty that many people will find out via this blog post or Facebook, but it all happened so suddenly.  I enjoy living in New Jersey but six weeks is not a long time in the grand scheme of things.

As most people know, I work in a running specialty store.  Luckily, January and February are the quieter, so it wasn’t as big of a deal for me to need the time off.  I am lucky RunningCo. is good to me.

So I guess there isn’t much more to say.  I’ll be in the Montgomery area for the next 6 weeks. I’ll be relatively busy but if you’re local or have any recommendations for the area let me know.  Hopefully, I’ll be able to get down to Pensacola as well as Atlanta for at least a day or two.

Questions for you:

Have you ever had a short term move?

Have you ever been to Montgomery?  Do you any have recommendations of things to do?

  1. Good luck! Hopefully the weather is a little better!

  2. Montgomery has great barbecue and I would definitely take a short road trip to Birmingham as well!

    1. Thank you! We will actually be in Birmingham a bit as well. I’ve heard it’s nice up there. 🙂

  3. Welcome to Alabama! I am in lower Alabama (about 2.5 hours south of Montgomery). If you do make it to Pensacola, try to come for the Double Bridge Run. It’s a 15K February 4th. Unfortunately, it’s the same weekend as Rock N Roll New Orleans, so I’m not doing Double Bridge this year, but it’s an AWESOME race!

    1. I’ve heard Double Bridge was pretty good. I didn’t realize RnR New Orleans was the same weekend. Are you planning any other races soon Sam?

      1. Sorry for the double comment. My computer did something weird! Also kind of random, but I don’t get notifications of a follow-up comment on your site. I do on most other WordPress sites, so it’s strange. All that’s really just to say, sorry if it seems like I have ignored other comments. I am doing RNR New Orleans and a half in Seaside, FL the first weekend in March. Otherwise, just a few local 5Ks. I hope you are enjoying AL!

  4. Welcome to Alabama! I am in lower AL (about 2.5 hours south of Montgomery). If you make it to Pensacola, you should try to come for the Double Bridge Run 15K. It’s February 4th. Unfortunately, it’s the same weekend as Rock N Roll New Orleans, so I’m not doing Double Bridge this year, but it’s an AWESOME race! If you make it to Pensacola otherwise and are looking for a running buddy, let me know! Mobile is about 30 minutes from P’Cola 🙂

  5. Have fun! If you’re in Atlanta and need breakfast recommendations I can help with that. Been to a bunch now, but still working through some of them.

    1. I always do. I have been to Atlanta a few times and have always enjoyed my visits. What is your favorite place?

  6. Good luck with the short-term move. I understand not wanting to tell everyone until it was definite, too. At least it is a good time of year to be down south because we have great winter running weather (but you’ll still see the same types of people you posted about!). Be careful on the roads and with finding new places to run in a new area, too.

  7. If you come to Atlanta and need some recommendations on places to run and eat, let me know! And/or if you want a running buddy!

  8. Safe travels! Running Co. is the best – glad that you’re able to take the time and then return when you come back to good ol’ NJ!

  9. PS….I suggest contacting Malcolm and the folks at Montgomery Multi-Sport. They have a great store and are nice people (and military) who do a good job of organizing runs. I feel sure they will give you a warm southern welcome!! Let me know if you make it to Dothan! Would love to meet up if possible!

  10. If you make it to Atlanta, I’m sure I can recommend a few places! I would say we could meet up, but I’ll probably be gone most of the time that you’re in Alabama! 6 weeks is super short! That’s like an extended vacation! It’ll be fun to explore a new place for awhile though!

  11. youre close to my neck of the woods now. and of course it’s when I’m on a no-travel status for work. silly military.

hope you enjoy your stay where it’s warmer 🙂
