TOZO OpenEgo Headphones Review

I was excited to try the TOZO OpenEgo headphones. OpenEgo aimed to make high-quality sound with user-friendly features. I’ve struggled to find headphones that stay on my ears while running. Or if they do, they are big and bulky. I wanted earbuds, but wanted them to stay on while working out. Before trying them I had a few questions:

  • Do TOZO OpenEgo headphones stay on your ears? I haven’t had any issues with them sliding around even while working out.
  • Are TOZO OpenEgo headphones good for working out? Yes. I’ve gone running several times with no issues of them sliding around.
  • Is the TOZO OpenEgo headphones sound quality good? Yes. Open ear design means you can hear sounds around you (which is important for running) but Tozo also doesn’t sacrifice sound quality.

What Makes TOZO OpenEgo Headphones Different?

TOZO OpenEgo headphones stand out with their open ear design, which allows people to remain aware of their surroundings while enjoying music or even taking calls. This feature is particularly important for those working out outdoors. For me, I don’t necessarily worry about cars or people, but I definitely worry about animals.

The headphones are equipped with large 16.2mm diameter drivers, approximately 30% larger than those found in conventional headphones. The drivers ensure that users experience translucent highs and immersive lows, enhancing the overall listening experience. TOZO’s proprietary OrigX Acoustics technology dives deep into sound details which creates better sound details. Is the TOZO OpenEgo headphones sound quality better than Shokz headphones? I’ve found it is.

Dual-microphone noise cancellation is another key feature, enhancing call clarity by filtering out external noise. This makes the OpenEgo headphones an excellent choice for professionals who need clear communication in noisy environments.

More Features of the TOZO OpenEgo headphones:

  • IPX5 sweat-resistant: which means it’s okay if you get sweaty or are running in the rain. Now, I wouldn’t take them in a torrential downpour, but I wouldn’t worry if they get sweaty.
  • TOZO APP Integration: Switch freely between 16 EQ MODES with the TOZO APP. You’re able to customize sound settings and personalize your own audio journey.
  • Watchable Long Battery Life – 600mAh charging case provides up to 30H of total battery life. The SMART LED digital power display displays remaining battery life on the charging case and each headphone.
  • Stabilizers ensure a secure fit (maybe my favorite feature because they work, even in harsh movement)

My experience with TOZO OpenEgo headphones:

I was looking for new headphones that would actually stay on my ear. While I don’t mind AirPods, I’ve found they don’t always stay on my ear while running and there is nothing worse than doing a race or workout and they fall out. They are “fine” but not the greatest.

When I first powered the TOZO OpenEgo headphones on, I realized you actually have to power each headphone on. This is maybe the first headphone I’ve had to turn on both sides. Not like it’s a big deal, but interesting. The TOZO OpenEgo headphones are comfortable on the ears, and I haven’t had any issues with them sliding around or falling. I’ve taken them out for several runs including fast, easy, and workouts with no issues. I’ve also used them for chores around the house and haven’t had a problem of them sliding around.

As far as sound quality, I find the TOZO OpenEgo headphones to be pretty good. I appreciate the music is good and I can clearly hear podcasts. If you’ve never used open ear headphones, the music is not going to be as good as say something that goes into your ear or noise-canceling. That’s not what these headphones are designed for. But the TOZO OpenEgo headphones are great for running and working out outdoors.

Cost:

TOZO OpenEgo headphones are currently the cheapest open headphone I know of on the market. While they are usually $99.99, they are currently priced at $49.99. So, if you are looking for an inexpensive headphone, you can’t get cheaper than that.

Conclusion

If you are looking for a high-quality option, the TOZO OpenEgo headphones are a great choice. You get high-quality audio, without going into your ears. Plus, it’s the current cheapest option on the market. It’s still surprising it’s (currently April 2024) priced at below $50. Even at $100, the value is still there.

Who should buy the TOZO OpenEgo headphones? If you’re looking for a design that you can hear your surroundings. Plus, they are just an inexpensive headphone.

Who should not purchase the TOZO OpenEgo headphones? If you’re looking for an in-ear design or looking for the best sound quality ever, you may find the open ear design not for you.

  1. Hi Hollie, thanks for your review of these. I’ve just checked on the Amazon site where I live and they’re even cheaper than on the US site! I read your review on the Suunto headphones a while back and had been thinking of trying those. Obviously these are much cheaper so was wondering how you think they compare to each other? Thank you!!

    1. Hey Lindsey!! I like both headphones equally and I think they are both great (as crazy as that is for two very different headphone price points). I think I would prefer to run faster (like races) in the Suunto just because they won’t fall off. Not sure if you’ve tried Shokz, but they are very similar to Shokz. I have never had an issue with TOZO falling off, but I think my comfort level for running faster is higher with the Suunto.
