Celebrating 9 Years

Remember when life blogging was a thing? We would blog about random things we did, our days, and whatever was on our mind. Think: blogging à la 2013. Anyway, I want to bring it back occasionally. What perfect time than celebrating my husband’s and my 9-year anniversary. We got married on April 12, 2015, in Norfolk, VA. Nine years feels like it’s gone by in a blink of an eye and it’s *crazy* to think I’ve blogged through the entire thing.

For a while, it didn’t look like he would be home, but thankfully he was. Although 9 years isn’t “too crazy” of an anniversary, hopefully he’s here for 10. We had big plans at 5 to go house hunting in Northern California, but COVID shut that down. So hopefully we can celebrate with something big at 10. Anyway, I digress.

We decided to start the morning off by hiking another SoCal peak: Sitton Peak. We were already in Orange County for work, so we extended our trip through the weekend. Orange county is about 2.5 hours from us (on a good day). On a bad day…it might be 4 driving through Anaheim.

We had thought about an all-day, longer hike, but neither of us has been long-distance hiking in over a year and didn’t want to jump into a 4000 feet gain/16-mile hike. We are currently on the quest to complete the SoCal Peaks and this is just another one down. I think we only have 2-3 to go.

So we settled for 9 miles for 9 years. It wasn’t settling, and it was a beautiful hike. It started with plenty of fog, then the fog cleared up, then more fog rolled in, and we ended back in the fog. Sitton Peak isn’t the tallest peak in Orange County, but you do get gorgeous views.

The hike up Sitton Peak took about 4 hours. We then headed towards Huntington Beach and stopped in Laguna Niguel. Last summer when my husband was deployed, I spent a lot of time in Los Angeles and some time in Orange County (mostly the Huntington Beach area). This year, I want to explore more of Orange County and see some of the towns down that way. Plus, my youth tells me to go to Laguna Beach, of course, LOL.

From there, we drove up and picked up cupcakes at Sprinkles in Newport Beach. Sprinkles cupcakes are my favorite in the greater LA/OC area.

There are several locations, and they even have vending machine locations, including at LAX. I, of course, like the sprinkle cupcakes.

After that, we opted for an early dinner at Kabuki in Huntington Beach. Like Sprinkles, they have a few in the greater area, and they are my favorite sushi.

They have one of the best dragon rolls I’ve tried, and I really enjoy their other rolls. We got 6 different rolls to split, and they were each so good. I also appreciate that they have a happy hour special on weekdays from 3-6 because sushi is not cheap.

Seriously the Kabuki dragon roll is one of the best.

We decided to stay the night in Huntington Beach and go running at the beach the next day. Orange County is roughly 120 miles/2.5 hours from us in the high desert, so why not take advantage of it.

In all, it was a great day. As a military family, we don’t always get to spend anniversaries/holidays together so it’s even more special when we do. Anyway if you enjoy blogging about life and doing things, let me know.

Questions for you:

Where is your favorite sushi from?

How did you spend your last anniversary? or holiday? or birthday?
