I was very intrigued by the KA-EX Cortisol Stress Reducer. I’m not usually someone who likes taking supplements or notices a big difference when doing so but I’ve been very intrigued with cortisol lately.

I also googled Cortisol Stress Reducer review and couldn’t really find anything. A few reddit posts here and there but there was nothing that was definite KA-EX Cortisol Stress Reducer is good or Cortisol Stress Reducer is bad? So anyway, that’s what led me here.

KA-EX also states the formula is Informed Sport tested, which is important for athletes who care about banned-substance risk.

The brand language is very performance heavy. There are claims around cortisol, REM sleep, HRV, energy, and mood.

KA-EX Cortisol Stress Reducer comes as a powder packet that you mix with cold water. The brand recommends one serving per day and says it can be used after physical exercise, on rest days, or during demanding workdays. KA-EX says one sachet should be mixed with about 500 ml, or roughly 17 ounces, of cold water.

My Experience with KA-EX Cortisol Stress Reducer:

I see KA-EX as a product for runners who are already doing the things. If sleep is a mess, training load is too high, fueling is inconsistent, and easy days are not actually easy, I would not expect a recovery packet to fix all of that. No supplement is going to fix these important things. In fact, a lot of people get confused because no supplement is a miracle worker…you can do the basics and improve your running without spending an arm and a leg.

Where the Cortisol Stress Reducer can help reduce cortisol for those doing the basics and in deep training…like weeks with long runs with workouts, races, hard summer training, travel stacked with racing… That is where a recovery drink with carbs, electrolytes, amino acids, and phosphatidylserine at least has a logical use.

Does KA-EX Cortisol Stress Reducer taste good? It is actually not bad. I doesn’t taste weird or have an aftertaste…or taste like you are consuming straight up medicine. It’s got kind of a tangy taste and it’s pretty refreshing. I would use KA-EX cold, after a harder run, and not as an everyday water replacement. It is a good choice post workout where I already know I need carbs, fluids, and something easier than making a full recovery snack right away. (It is not a meal replacement and I still have something with it though).

The biggest caution is the cortisol marketing. “Cortisol reducer” is an attention-grabbing phrase, but cortisol is not a villain. You will never completely reduce cortisol and you should not try too. High cortisol can lead to bloating and not recovering but keep in mind you do need *some* cortisol.

I also appreciate the Informed Sport testing claim because supplement contamination is a real concern for competitive athletes. The NIH notes that supplement companies are responsible for making sure their products are safe and properly labeled, while FDA monitoring happens after products are on the market.

Have I noticed a difference taking KA-EX Cortisol Stress Reducer? Yes and no. I do notice a difference on days I take the Cortisol Stress Reducer and how I sleep. My sleep is actually a lot better. So that helps! I don’t notice a huge difference in bloating that I will sometimes get from high cortisol.

Cost and Is KA-EX Cortisol Stress Reducer Worth It?

The KA-EX 24-pack powder box is listed at $49.99, which puts it around $2.08 per serving. That is more expensive than basic electrolytes and cheaper than many ready-to-drink recovery products or buying a drink after every workout.

For runners who want the cheapest recovery option, this is not it. Chocolate milk, a carb-heavy snack, electrolytes, and sleep will cover plenty of ground for less money. For runners who like single-serving products, travel often, race often, or want something more specific than a standard electrolyte packet, KA-EX is more reasonable. It is really easy to travel with.

I would not buy it expecting a miracle but it is one of the “little things” that can help make a difference when you are doing the rest.
