Why are headphones so expensive these days? I digress.

About the TOZO T20 Earbuds

First Impressions

The TOZO T20s come in a compact case that feels sturdy but lightweight. I tried the black version, which has a matte finish that resists fingerprints surprisingly well. The lid flips open smoothly and shuts easily. It’s easy to slip into a pocket or gym bag, and it doesn’t feel bulky during a run. I like that it displays how much charge is left right on the case…there’s no guessing.

Inside, the earbuds are magnetic and secure…no fumbling around to get them seated correctly. Pairing was fast and seamless with my phone. I’ve appreciated that brands have made it easy to pair headphones with phones these days. No more wasting time just trying to get them connected.

Sound Quality

Let’s be real: earbuds under $50 often sound like they’re underwater. That’s not the case here. The T20s use 10mm dynamic drivers to deliver surprisingly rich, layered sound. There’s a clear emphasis on bass, but not at the expense of mids or highs. For podcasts and calls, voices come through clean and natural. For music, they handled everything from Taylor Swift to techno without distortion, even at higher volumes.

There’s no active noise cancellation (ANC), but they do feature Environmental Noise Cancellation (ENC) during calls. It’s not on par with ANC, but it does a good job at filtering out background sounds in voice calls. When working out especially, I don’t want noise-cancelling headphones, so this works.

I’ve also used the TOZO T20 Earbuds in the gym with no issues. They block enough noise that I feel like I can do my own thing in the gym without cancelling all noise around me.  I think not having noise cancelling headphones is especially important for runners because you need to be aware of your surroundings.

Fit and Comfort

The T20s come with six different ear tip sizes, which is more than most competitors include. I was able to get a snug, secure fit after testing a couple of options. Once in, they stayed put…even during a sweaty treadmill run and a windy outdoor walk. They’re lightweight enough that I forgot they were in after about 10 minutes.

They also hold up surprisingly well in workouts thanks to the IPX8 waterproof rating. I don’t deal much with rain in the Mojave Desert, but I do deal a lot with my own sweat (LOL). I haven’t had any issues with noise cutting in and out.

Battery Life and Charging

TOZO claims 13 hours on a single charge and up to 48 hours with the case. I got a little over 12 hours in a mix of music, calls, and podcasts before I had to drop them back into the case. That’s plenty for all-day use or a long weekend trip without needing to bring a charger.

Charging is quick via USB-C, and they also support wireless charging…which is pretty rare at this price point. I tossed the case on a Qi pad before bed and woke up to a full charge. I hope more brands move to being able to wirelessly charge. I just want to bring one cable with me!

Touch Controls

The touch controls on the T20s are responsive and intuitive. A single tap plays or pauses music, double taps skip tracks or answer calls, and long presses adjust the volume. You can also access your voice assistant. There’s a slight learning curve, but once I got the hang of it, I rarely needed to pull out my phone.

Calls and Microphone Quality

I tested the call quality on both ends and was impressed. The dual-mic setup uses ENC to reduce ambient noise, and it worked well in everyday situations like walking down the street or doing chores. My voice came through clearly, and I could hear the other person with no issues.

That said, if you’re in a really noisy environment (think: construction site, windy area, or downtown Manhattan), it won’t perform like premium ANC earbuds. But for casual use, it gets the job done.

Right now on amazon, they are on sale for $19.99 (May 2025). That is bonkers and a huge deal.
