Oats Overnight Review

I’ve been curious about Oats Overnight for a few years. Overnight oats first exploded in popularity around 2012–2015, but I never really got into it. I always had the same ole breakfast that worked for me (bagel + Nutella). I was…

What are overnight oats? They are make-ahead oats that are convenient, customizable, and usually packed with nutrients. Overnight oats are awesome for those who “hate breakfast” or don’t “have the time.” But what if you could skip the prep and still enjoy all the benefits… plus a little more protein? That’s where Oats Overnight comes in.

Before trying Oats Overnight, I had a few questions:

  • What is the rule for overnight oats?
You’ll need to pour 4–8 ounces of milk, depending on your preference for thickness. Then just put it in the fridge overnight.
  • What is the best liquid for overnight oats? Definitely milk. Don’t use water, as it will not thicken or taste good. You can use your favorite type of milk, from cow’s milk to almond or oat.
  • Are Oats Overnight just oatmeal? Not really. They have fun flavors and added protein.

Now let’s get into an honest review of Oats Overnight.

About the Brand

Oats Overnight was born from a simple frustration: DIY overnight oats take time, and there weren’t any ready-to-go options available that checked all the boxes…tasty, high-protein, portable, and easy. So founder Brian Harris got to work in his own kitchen, making batch after batch until he got the recipes right. From humble beginnings shipping oats from a car trunk, Oats Overnight is now a full-scale operation with nationwide reach and a loyal following.

What sets the brand apart is its commitment to real ingredients, user feedback, and flavor innovation. The company says it doesn’t make products for customers…it makes them with customers.

About Oats Overnight

Oats Overnight is a powdered blend of oats, protein, seeds, and flavoring that you mix with milk (or milk alternative) and let soak for a few hours…usually overnight. The result? A smooth, nutrient-packed breakfast with up to 20g of protein, 7g of fiber, and very little added sugar.

You can enjoy it cold and drinkable straight from the included shaker bottle, or use less liquid and eat it with a spoon for a more traditional oatmeal texture. There are over 30 flavors to choose from, including both whey- and plant-based protein options.

What Makes Oats Overnight Different?

Let’s be honest…you can absolutely make your own overnight oats at home. It can get time consuming and costly to make different and fun flavors. But Oats Overnight sets itself apart in a few key ways:

  • High Protein: Most recipes pack 20+ grams of protein from whey or pea protein. That’s about the same as three eggs.

  • Fiber Boost: Ingredients like chia seeds, flaxseed, fiber and healthy fats.

  • Flavor Variety: With options like Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Cacao Crunch and Maple Pancakes, they go beyond your standard berry-and-banana combos.

  • Convenience: Just add milk to the shaker, stir, refrigerate, and grab it in the morning. It’s truly grab-and-go.

  • Portability: The shaker bottle makes it easy to take your breakfast on the road or into the office.

My Experience with Oats Overnight:

I bought 24 flavors to try. I was curious because they have so many fun, different ones. I was looking for a quick (second) breakfast I could have after running and before going to work. I would rather sleep, so I usually don’t have a large window to cook anything between running and going to work.

I tried them both drinkable and with a spoon and preferred the spoonable version. My preference is almond milk, so I mixed with that. The consistency was creamy, not chalky, and the oats were perfectly soaked. I was honestly surprised at how satisfying it felt. I thought I might be hungry an hour or two later, but I found myself to feel fine until lunch.

Some of the flavors I tried:

  • S’mores: I really enjoyed this flavor. If you are looking for something that tastes like a dessert for breakfast, this is a great option.
  • Fruity Cereal: I actually think this was my favorite because of the sweetness and fruitiness. It tasted great.
  • Cookies and Cream: I had high hopes for this, and while it tasted like cookies and cream, I had other options that I liked better.
  • Carrot Cake: This was definitely one of my more favorite options, and I ate both of these back to back after trying the first batch.

In all, I’ve liked each of the Oats Overnight flavors I have tried.

Cost

Let’s talk dollars. This is where people tend to hesitate.

  • On the Oats Overnight website, eight-packet starter kits cost $34, which includes a free shaker bottle.

  • A 16-pack costs $60 as a one-time purchase or $45 with a subscription.

  • A 24-pack runs $84 one-time or $64 with a subscription.

That comes out to around $3.75 to $4.25 per serving, depending on your plan. On Amazon, prices vary but tend to hover around $4 per packet.

Yes, it’s definitely more expensive than DIY oats. But you’re paying for high-quality ingredients, added protein, and total convenience. I believe it’s worth it because you aren’t hungry and there are so many delicious flavors.

Conclusion

Oats Overnight is a great option if you’re looking for a high-protein, fun breakfast that tastes good and travels well. It’s not the cheapest route, but it’s efficient, satisfying, and full of flavor. If you’re someone who regularly skips breakfast or ends up grabbing something less healthy on the go, this could be a great option.

Who Should Not Buy Oats Overnight

  • Anyone on a tight grocery budget: DIY oats are much more affordable.

  • People with very specific dietary restrictions should double-check ingredients, especially for allergens or natural flavorings.

  1. I’ve actually been eating this for lunch with a banana cut up in it! I’ve really enjoyed exploring their different flavors and just how easy it is to make. I used to make my own overnight oats and do agree that while the individual packet price can be high, it’s not that much different than what you would pay per serving buying all of your own ingredients. And having such a wide range of flavors has meant, for me, it doesn’t get boring having the “same” thing for lunch everyday.

    1. I agree! I appreciate all of the fun flavors and you don’t have to think about making yourself. Which is your favorite Vanessa?
