If you Google “Victus,” you’ll find a ton of results for baseball bats. Well, that’s not this…although I’m sure the bats are great! So, what exactly is the nutrition brand Victus?
For athletes seeking a seamless, science-based approach to fueling, Victus delivers a streamlined, three-phase system: Before, During, and After. This system helps athletes prepare, sustain, and recover optimally by reducing the complexity often associated with sports nutrition. It also makes it easier to determine when you’re supposed to take what.
Before trying Victus, I had a couple of questions:
- Does Victus work? Yes, it works if you use the products correctly and can get 90 grams of carbohydrates per hour.
- Does Victus taste good? Absolutely, especially if you, like me, don’t enjoy overly sweet nutrition and hydration products.
Now let’s get into an honest review of Victus.
About the Brand: Victus
Victus is designed to demystify performance nutrition. Unlike many brands that offer numerous products without clear guidance, Victus provides a straightforward strategy. The three-step Before, During, and After approach ensures every aspect of training is supported without the guesswork, helping you avoid mid-race mistakes and stay focused on performance.
Victus teamed up with 37 researchers, scientists, and Master’s and PhD students over 18 months, putting in more than 9,000 hours of research. They drew on 1,128 scientific publications and clinical trials.
Victus Product Breakdown
01 Before – Energy Boost and Performance Enhancement
Price: $3.25 or $49.95
Victus’ Before product primes athletes for high-intensity activities, boosting energy and endurance while preventing the typical post-stimulant crash. Designed for use 30-45 minutes pre-activity, it provides essential compounds like BCAAs and caffeine for a focused energy lift. The formula supports enhanced oxygen transport, delaying fatigue and improving stamina during rigorous sessions. Victus recommends avoiding use after 7 PM to ensure quality rest. There is caffeine in the Victus Before 01.
What they want you to know is it’s not a pre-workout drink. It’s designed to give you energy, but it’s not a pre-workout.
What Makes Victus 01 Before Different?
- Caffeine: 200mg
- Vitamin D3: 19mcg
- L-Phenylalanine: 1g
- L-Citrulline dl-Malate: 2.15g
- BCAA (2:1:1): 5g
- Sodium: 240mg
My Experience with Victus 01 Before
Before trying the Before product, I was a bit nervous because I don’t typically use pre-workouts. I don’t consume much caffeine anymore and don’t like feeling jittery or experiencing crashes. Thankfully, you don’t get that with Victus. I found I had sustained energy but never felt “hyped up” or anything like that. I just felt like I had energy, and later in the day, I could fall asleep without any issues.
02 During – Sustained Energy and Hydration
Price: $3.49 or 20 for $54.95
The During mix and gel keep athletes fueled with a unique 2:1:1.5 carbohydrate ratio, minimizing gastrointestinal discomfort. With 45 grams of carbs and 343 mg of sodium per unit, the During products balance hydration and energy, making them easy on the stomach and ideal for prolonged exercise. This phase simplifies fueling strategies with light, refreshing flavors that prevent flavor fatigue, helping athletes stay energized without feeling weighed down.
Unlike many fuels that either prioritize carbs or sodium at the expense of the other, Victus 02 During achieves a balanced formula. Using two units per hour allows for easy measurement and cost-efficiency, delivering a consistent 90g of carbs per hour for longer or high-intensity sessions. I was drawn to Victus because of the ability to have 90 grams of carbohydrates.
When mixed with 620 ml of water, 02 During has an isotonic osmolarity of 276 mOsmol/L, making it easily absorbable.
What Makes Victus During 02 Different?
- Carbohydrates: 45g
- Carbohydrate Ratio: 2:1:1.5 for balanced energy and reduced GI issues
- Sodium: 343mg
- Fuel & Hydration in One: Designed for easy intake and packing with travel-ready sachets
My Experience with Victus During 02
Like I mentioned, I was originally drawn to Victus because of the ability to get 90 grams of carbohydrates. I appreciate that it’s digestible. I really like the fueling flavors as well. I’ve found I don’t love super-sweet liquid fueling, but I’ve found the Victus drink mixes taste great. They have several flavors, and I’ve tried each:
- Apples and Lemon: This is a unique but refreshing flavor. It has a hint of sweet but nothing unmanageable, and the flavor goes down smoothly.
- Pineapple and Citrus: I was worried this might be too tart for me, but I really like the flavor and have become a big fan. I taste more pineapple, which is nice.
- Strawberry and Lemon: This is like a sweet lemonade—not overly sweet, but without tart lemons.
Each of the gels has 45 grams of carbohydrates, and I’ve tried both:
- Lemon: I was surprised to enjoy pure lemon flavor. Lemon can be super harsh, but this has a hint of sweetness.
- Berry and Hibiscus: I’m a huge fan. Another unique flavor that helps combat flavor fatigue.
03 After – Full-Body Recovery
Price: $3.99 or 20 for $59.99
The After recovery drink offers an all-in-one mix with 21g of protein and a blend of 33 essential nutrients. It aids muscle repair, glycogen replenishment, and micronutrient restoration, supporting complete recovery after intense activities.
Victus 03 After is a comprehensive recovery drink packed with 33 macro- and micronutrients carefully selected to restore your body after intense training. Unlike basic recovery drinks that focus mainly on sugar and protein, 03 After provides a “whole body” recovery, addressing muscle repair, joint health, and overall restoration.
This unique formula includes an amino acid profile combining collagen for tendon, ligament, and joint support with whey protein for muscle building and lean mass repair. The addition of essential nutrients like collagen, L-Leucine, and magnesium ensures targeted recovery beyond simple refueling.
Available in refreshing fruit flavors, 03 After is allergen-free, lactose-free, and contains no added sugars or fats, making it suitable for anyone with dietary sensitivities. As with all Victus products, it’s NZVT-tested, assuring quality and safety for professional athletes.
What Makes Victus After 03 Different?
- Protein: 21g for muscle repair and lean mass support
- Carbohydrates: 10g for energy replenishment
- L-Leucine: 3.2g for enhanced muscle protein synthesis
- Total Essential Amino Acids: 13.9g for comprehensive recovery
- Sodium: 70mg to replace electrolytes
- Magnesium: 40mg plus 25 additional electrolytes and vitamins for whole-body health
My Experience with Victus After 03
I’m a big fan of the fruit flavors. I was cautious about spending “that much” on recovery when you can find similar products for way cheaper, but honestly, Victus 03 After tastes great, and it’s easy to bring with you wherever you’re running. Victus truly takes the guesswork out of fueling.
Price:
Victus can be seen as more as a more expensive product but they take the guess work out of it. Some of the higher end gels and nutrition are around similar prices so it’s no different than Maurten.
Victus Conclusion
Victus offers a well-researched, streamlined nutrition system ideal for athletes who want simple, effective fueling without the guesswork. Victus products support every training phase with targeted benefits: Before for energy, During for hydration and fuel, and After for recovery. In all, I’m a huge fan especially because you can get 90 grams of carbohydrates per hour with just 2 during.
