Guide to Long Moisture Wicking Long Tank Tops

Guide to Long Moisture Wicking Long Tank Tops

Moisture Long Wicking Tank Tops are something I have an issue finding. As someone who is 5’8 with a long torso, many brands make a shorter tank top, which ends up being singlet length. It wicks moisture but isn’t great for layering.

OR brands make a longer tank top that is cotton, and you can’t sweat in it. Finding the perfect moisture-wicking long tank top that sits at the hips is incredibly difficult.

Guide to Long Moisture Wicking Long Tank Tops

The last moisture-wicking long tank top I purchased was the Oiselle scantron tanks. It was a la 2013. YES, 2013, and they lasted until 2020, so it was time to replace them. To my surprise, it took a lot longer to find these tanks than I anticipated…or they were expensive. But, if they last another 7 years, I guess we are all good here.

Why long moisture-wicking tank tops?

  • I want to layer. I put a tank top under everything, and I wouldn’t say I like shorter tanks that ride up.
  • Multipurpose: If I want to layer or wear it alone, it needs to breathe well out and about or even run.
  • I am 5’8, and singlet length tanks don’t cut it. They either rise up or just aren’t that flattering.

So this is for you, my fellow tall girls or ladies with long torsos…

Here are a few options of long moisture-wicking tank tops I bought and tried:

Best Value: GapFit Breath Racer Back: ($24.95)

I was skeptical. I don’t trust tank tops that are “cheap.” It just takes one run and one chafe to figure out why. The GapFit Racer Back tank is the longest of the options I tried. You can tell the material is cheaper and less “form-fitting” than other options, but it breathes well, and I’ve run in it multiple times with no issues. In fact, now I’ve bought more because it was that surprising. (And if you ever pay full price at the Gap, you are doing it wrong).

A Few Features:

  • Breathable jersey with gDry Moisture Wicking helps keep your skin dry.
  • Flatlock seams prevent chafing.
  • Material: 74% Polyester, 18% Lyocell, 8% Spandex

Fit: Longest and slightly looser. Material is thicker than other options. One thing to note is the armholes are kind of deep, so if you want to wear it with just a tank and bra, your bra will show. This makes this long moisture-wicking tank top best for layering or with a sports bra.

Conclusion: After wearing GapFit Racer Back Tank for a couple of months now, I can tell you I’m 100% surprised. The durability is great, and it shows zero signs of wear. It’s definitely the moisture-wicking tank tops’ loosest. I haven’t had a single issue with chafing or discomfort. It also doesn’t look like it will break down anytime soon. My only issue is how much bra you see! Not an issue for running but definitely if you wanted to wear it casually.

Thinnest: Lululemon Swifty Tech Racerback 2.0 ($58)

Ask most women which brand they prefer; they’ll tell you Lululemon. I have a few things from Lululemon, mostly leggings. I haven’t tried the tank tops before. Why? I didn’t need them and don’t love paying $58 for a tank top. A few colors were on sale for $39, so I decided to pick a couple up.

Fit: Thinnest and most form-fitting. Breathes well and comfortable.

A Few Features:

  • Thin and hip length
  • Uses: Silverescent™ technology which helps prevent the growth of odor-causing bacteria
  • Material: 54% Nylon, 40% Recycled polyester, 3% Elastane, 3% X-static® nylon

Conclusion: I see why people pay top dollar for this long moisture-wicking tank top. It’s comfortable and breathable. Of the three tanks, it’s the most form-fitting and thinnest. I haven’t had a single issue with chafing, and as far as durability goes, it looks brand new.

Sweaty Betty: Athlete Seamless Workout Tank $48:

I’ve never tried anything from Sweaty Betty before, but I had many friends who told me Sweaty Betty was their go-to band, so I picked up several colors in their Athlete Seamless Workout Tank. Sweaty Betty has the most color options, and they don’t seem to care “which colors are in style”. Thank goodness!

A Few Features:

  • Four-way stretch
  • Breathable and Seamless
  • Material: 100% Polyamide

Fit: Mix of the two. Medium thickness and loose.

Conclusion: I like the fit of the Sweaty Betty Tank, and I find it comfortable to live, run, and workout in. I am slightly worried about the durability because it has only been a few months, and it feels as though it might not last as long as the other two. I do appreciate it’s slightly thicker than Lululemon and doesn’t ride up. I haven’t had an issue with chafing, but as mentioned, I worry about the durability.

Conclusion:

If you are looking for long moisture-wicking tank tops because you either have a long torso or you want something longer, any of these are great options. All of them have been great options, and now I have an upgraded wardrobe of layering tanks. They are all good in different ways. The Gap Racerback is the cheapest and thickest but lacks the ability to wear it on its own. The Sweaty Betty comes in the most colors, but I worry about the durability! The lululemon is the thinnest and most flattering but is the most expensive.
