67 AntiRecovery Miles

Back to these Sunday things.

Monday: 10.52 miles (8:23 pace) after traveling 10.5 hours on an airplane.  I was really proud of myself for getting that done.
Tuesday: 10.5 miles treadmill
Wednesday: 10.25 treadmill (felt terrible…sluggish)
Thursday: 10.25 miles outdoors (felt terrible again)
Friday: Which led to an off day…the day before a race.
Saturday: Spring Forward 15k (1:04.15) total miles: 17
Sunday: 10 shake out
Total: 67 miles

Running:

The whole week my legs were pretty tired.  Besides the weekend runs, my runs felt not so great.  They were miserable, I just wanted them to be over.  That led to me taking a day off (why I don’t plan rest days…I take them when I need it).

It at least rejuvenated me (that or the fact that it was 50 degrees and sunny at the race).  The 15k went better than expected.  It was a hilly course, I’ll recap it later but from my training week you can obviously tell that I wasn’t fully recovered and wasn’t feeling the greatest.  At least most of these miles were outdoors though.   I had a great time with Laura though and that is all I was really hoping for.  I also won a jar of almond butter…

Recovery:

Why haven’t I been recovering well?

Any and all of these reasons: my runs the previous week were all on trails, up mountains and chatting (so harder).  I can run 8 miles while not chatting easily, but chatting and running 8 min miles and holding conversation isn’t that easy for me and quite tiring.  My legs were still tired from my half two weeks ago.  My nutrition has been off due to vacation and I haven’t been stretching, massaging and foam rolling.  Yes, most of it is my fault…I’m over it.  I’ll work on that this week when I’m getting back into the swing of things.

All in all, not my best training week but not my worst either.  Worst are injury laden ones.

Next Week:

The antimotivation train is hard.  I’ve been on it the last week or so.  My body is tired.  I am struggling again being back in Oswego.  (seeing friends and family down south was a tease).  Still like my friends up here though, of course, it was just hard to come back.  Plus the fact that I spent (minus Saturday), Friday and Sunday by myself (no one in the office…no one at home) was somewhat difficult.

Speaking of that since I’m personally struggling right now with reacclamating back up here, I thought I would take this time to just dive back to where I came from.  First, I decided to participate in Mommy Run Fast’s 7 day sugar detox.  I don’t normally have the issue of having too much sugar because I am good with limiting that but I thought I would limit my artificial sweetener intake.  If you know me well, you know I have no issues dumping half a container of splenda, truvia or whatever else into a container of coffee or pancakes.

I think it will be an interesting and difficult week but it has been something I’ve wanted to do since relying on them so heavily after being diagnosed.

Second, I am going to start working and motivating myself for proper recovery.  That means I will stretch, foam roll and ugh (yes) I do need to fork over the 80 dollars for a deep tissue massage.  I know my muscles will thank me.

Third, I’m going to stop feeling sorry for myself.  Yes with the exception of Saturday this weekend was lonely and terrible.  I had almost no face to face human contact on Friday except to sign some forms…almost none on Sunday.  It happens.  People have things to do.  I can’t be hanging out with people solely on my schedule and that’s life.  Is it hard to watch a lot of people celebrating Easter when I’m essentially by myself?  Of course, but that happens when you live alone.  I know this isn’t a forever life choice and I have to get through it.

And of course, Happy Easter.

#coffeeaday contest

I decided now that I finally have some free time I will be hosting another #coffeeaday contest.  For those of you who don’t follow me on instagram, every morning (or afternoon or night) I post a photo of coffee.  Normally just one and it’s mostly what I use my instagram for.

coffee in a Russian hat

gas station coffee with lots of whip cream

coffee in an ugg boot

coffee in a shoe

Anywho this isn’t really about me though, it’s about you!  I have been asked to have another #coffeeaday contest and I loved doing it and seeing your coffee photos.  Since I’m biased towards gas station coffee, this will be reader’s choice again (so hopefully it gets some publicity so people will vote…though winning by 1 vote because no one else voted is still a win).

Here is the dealio:

From now until April 7 (that is one week) you can email me (lolzthatswim at gmail) your best coffee photo.  It can be instagrammed…not, with you in it, with text…without…be creative!

3 travel mugs of coffee

3 travel mugs of coffee

Then from April 7-9th, I’ll have a voting poll here on my blog.

Depending on how many people submit photos, I’ll have a second round vote (with the top 4) from April 11-14 on my facebook page.

So what are the rules?

Anything goes as long as you have coffee in it.  You can be crazy, silly, funny, artistic, selfie style…2 ounces…24 ounces…whatever you want.  So good luck and email me a photo.

The winner will be the one with the most votes.  They will win a coffee related prize which I will mail to you.

No questions today…

That Silly ABC Survey

Everyone has done this.  If you don’t read it I won’t cry myself a river.  I personally like surveys and talking about myself…isn’t that why you blog.

Age: 22

Bed Size:  I have a daybed in my closet room here and a full bed at my parents house.

Chore You Hate: I hate all chores.  If you enjoy cleaning you are a weirdo.

Overnight Hospital Stays? Two and about a dozen ER visits…I should have a frequent punch card or something with discounts when I reach 5.  I’ve been in for eye problems, kidney problems, blood sugar problems, running injuries…I think that’s it.

Pet Peeve: What isn’t my pet peeve.  Currently my biggest pet peeve for blogging is stop agreeing and telling me that is exactly what you do on my blog…Only to post that you don’t do that all.  For example: I love that you post normal foods Hollie, that’s all I eat.  My WIAW: paleo protein pancakes made out of almond meal with chia seeds (I don’t think you can order those at a restaurant).  If plain pancakes aren’t your thing…don’t worry about it.  I won’t judge you, but I will for posting bullshit. FYI: if you agree with this and are a culprit…I’ll probably call you out on it.

Quote from a Movie: I can’t even remember my name half the time let alone movie quotes.

Right or Left Handed? Right. I am not special…yet 90% of the surveys I read said they were left handed or could use both hands…interesting you special guys.

Time You Wake Up? 5:15…because I like to run before work.

Vegetable You Dislike: cucumbers and pickels.  Green peppers aren’t really my thing either.

What Makes You Run Late: reading blogs (don’t pretend like it doesn’t to you), getting sidetracked on the internet…running an extra 5 minutes.

Vacation Breakfast Food

Travel for me means throwing most of my cares of nutrition and training out the window and I don’t really deny that.  Lucky for me, Tim likes to run and I like to run so I can get some easy runs in so I don’t really throw any sort of run out the window or feel like a bother basing a schedule around when we run.  Recovering from the Shamrock half though I felt somewhat bad that we would be running much slower than he would like.  Oh well we still ran 71 miles together this week.

But this post isn’t about running.  It’s about some of the delicious food that I got my hands on.  I actually didn’t have very much that I was disappointed in (normally when you go out to eat for 15 meals, you have at least one that was like meh).  I am contemplating adding more dining experiences into my blog.  Since I can’t cook but enjoy blowing my budget at various restaurants it seems like a good idea.

Let’s start with breakfast because those are my favorites.

This seems like it was a million years ago but I got breakfast with Shannon a couple Friday’s ago at a local favorite of ours Broken Egg Bistroshannonandi

If you are ever in the VA Beach area, I highly recommend it.  It’s a small breakfast café and their eggs (not to mention pancakes) are always the bomb.  I tend to go every single time I’m home and every single time I see Shannon.  They refilled my coffee cup at least a dozen times and you know if I can report that I’m good to go.  (OH and they have French vanilla creamer for your coffee on site.  If that isn’t enough to convince you…well…I don’t know what is).

always perfection

always perfection…Coastal Omelet (ie: omelet with crab meat inside)

Moving on to Texas-

Anyways Tim and I also got breakfast twice in the San Antonio area (post runs) at a little café called the Egg and I.  The Egg and I quickly became a Texas favorite of mine since you could get different types of coffee…instead of house you got the choice of house, hazelnut, rainforest and something else tat I forgot.  We chose the hazelnut.

coffee

The first day I got the Medetterian Frittata (I still don’t know what the difference between that and omelet is that…both are eggs with things in them).  I tend to get a lot more egg related foods going out to eat because I cannot cook eggs to save my life.   The fresh fruit was actually fresh (that sounds funny but it wasn’t like soggy or weird ha).

egg

We certainly got called out the second day being there again but I’m always a regular places.  I had an Avocado and Chicken Omelet.  I think the avocado and chicken was a little more my style because it was a bit more filling and after running 15 miles…you kind of want that.  I really like avocado (look at me being foodie…what foodie blogger isn’t obsessed with avocado?).

omelet

On my last morning before leaving Texas…Tim asks how early I am willing to get up for pancakes.  Which in our case was 3:50 am.  I showered and was ready to leave by 4:15 (I’m pretty high maintenance…just ask when I decide running an extra 10 minutes is better then an extra 10 minutes in the shower).

pancakes

For these bad boys at the local diner called Skillets (no website).  It’s Tim favorite restaurant and now one of my favorites too.  I got healthy chocolate chip pancakes.  Just kidding, I don’t think they have voodoo pancakes there…I asked a few times though. Like I’ve said a few times, I normally get egg type things at diners because I can’t cook eggs…I try but fail.  They come out burnt and crispy or the yolk breaks…ect.  However, you don’t just not get pancakes at a restaurant with a giant pancakes sign.  These were really good and I know for a fact when I go back to Texas (not if…when) I will be eating there…a lot…everyday…

Anyways, I have a lot more restaurants that I went to (and will continue to post about).  I’m thinking of doing more restaurant related posts.

Question for you: What is the best breakfast place you’ve ever been too?

Training for Real Life

This post was actually inspired by Shannon.  Shannon is by far one of my favorite bloggers and I’m not ashamed in the slightest to say that.  Her blog posts nearly always hit home to me.  The particular post that inspired me today talked about how people/bloggers tend to always be training for something.

I personally could not agree more with this.  Some people are training for a collegiate race…some are training for a marathon…it seems if someone were to say “I’m training for a 5k” there were would be judgment there.  There shouldn’t be, but I can guarantee you there would be.  I’ve said countless times, nothing really on my radar and instead I get…so why are you running now.

Training to be bffers

Training to be bffers (that’s the Father LOLZ)

One of my biggest pet peeves is that once some decides for themselves that they are indeed a “serious” runner they begin training for a marathon. On the internet (and real life really) you are either a runner training for a marathon or not a runner.  Nothing in between without judgment.  I’ve gotten so much rude commentary and crap for saying I have absolutely no interest in running a marathon.  None.  I don’t need to explain myself, but right now I don’t feel pressured or the least bit excited to run a marathon.  So I’m not going to…maybe some day but not now.

What is a marathon?

What is a marathon?

Yet it seems like that is not normal in the running community.  Everyone is training for something (as Shannon said).  Here is the thing: you are a runner whether you are training for a 5k, 10k, half, full, college, ultras, tr’s…nothing…gym class…whatever.  If you are running, you are a runner.

As someone who is logging over 70 miles, something that always bothers me is when people say “well I’m not nearly the runner because I’m only logging 5 miles a week…ect”

False.

adubs and I finishing her first road race. My best friend is also a runner. Did I mention I miss her?

It doesn’t matter your pace, mileage or anything.  You don’t need to be training for anything to be considered a runner.

Finally if you are training for something and a very intense and rigorously scheduled person that’s great-but just remember that does not mean everyone else is.  We all have our own jives of running, fast or slow, long or show..rundies or basketball shorts…but the thing is…we are all running…training for the Olympics or training for life.

Matt told me real runners don't come to races in Juicy Valour ready to run. I'm once again a fake runner. I warmed up in this jacket once with my hood up.

Seemed like a good photo to post when talking about what you run in…
