Happy Mother’s Day

I will start by start by saying my mom has always been there for me but even just typing that doesn’t do it justice.  As many readers know, I’m extremely close with my mom.

Growing up in a military family, my mom took care of my brothers and I while my dad was deployed.

She moved 3 children under the age of 6 plus 2 dogs and 2 cats across the world when dad had to be at work.

As I went through middle school, my mom was there. Like most middle schoolers, I can’t say I was best behaved or pleasant to be around.  She took care of us.

She was there for me through my ups and downs of the teenage and high school years.  Like many teenagers, I never appreciated my mom as much as I should until I left for college.

During college, I began missing my family and went through quite a bit of rough patches. I always knew I could call my mom and chat.  She helped when I switched majors, ended a relationship and quit swimming all within a month of each other.

Graduating college

Later, as I made my next big life step and moved in with my husband she helped plan and pack for that.  She helped plan and coordinate my wedding while we were several states away.

Mom and I

Now as a 26-year-old adult, I feel so lucky to be close with my mom.   Last week, she drove up from Virginia, and we hung out.

My mom has always been supportive of everything I can, and I could never ask for anyone better.

My mom has truly always there for me. Every year when I reflect upon everything she has done for me, it has made me more grateful.  She is supportive, and I could never imagine it any other way.

I am also grateful to have married into a wonderful family and be very close with my mother in law, Greta.  I could not be any more fortunate.

So Thank You, Moms.

Thank you to all of the moms out there!

Question for you: Tell me something about your mom.

Happy Mother’sDay

I know a lot of bloggers dedicate posts to their mom on Mother’s Day.  I am going to follow this trend as well because my mom is truly amazing.  To put it bluntly, there has never been a time when I couldn’t call my mom when I needed something.  My mom helped to organize, plan and make my wedding incredible.  She has been there through everything in my life.

I feel like my dad is often seen more on the blog because he does races so appears there.   am just as close with my mom as well.  My mom has been there for me 100% of the time and for that I cannot thank her enough.  Of course when I was younger, we had our fair share of rifts.  I was young, I thought I knew everything about anything.  (I mean…wait…I don’t?).  Everyone was a bratty at some point in middle and high school (me probably especially).

As some of my long term readers know, my dad was in the military for a full 30 years (meaning until the end of my freshman year of college).  While growing up my mom raised us when dad was away on travel.  She moved us back from overseas (That is over 16 hours of flying with 3 kids under the age of 6, 2 dogs and 2 cats).  She moved us alone.

My mom also helped plan, coordinate and help with our wedding.  Without my mom, I am 100% certain the wedding would not have been as successful, as fun or everything I dreamed about.  I will never be able to be thankful enough for that.  I am truly grateful for my mother and everything she has done for not only me, but my brothers and family as well.

Happy Mothers Day to my mom and all moms out there.

Real Life Musings

I normally have Monday’s off of both works.  Though I would much prefer a weekend day, I cannot ever complain about having a day off at all.  Normally on Monday’s I try and make it my long run or double workout day since I can’t generally fit it in other places and then of course relaxing and not worrying about work.  When mom asked if I wanted to go to the outlet malls in Williamsburg and was off work as well I wanted a day to forget workouts, forget working and be a real girl.

The previous two weeks I haven’t been having runs that I would really consider enjoyable.  While I finish the runs injury free and not in pain, they haven’t really felt great.  At 5:15 in the morning I was just grumpy and running was not happening then.  When I didn’t sleep well and had no interest in running…I didn’t.  I also didn’t sleep in either because honestly I was just wide awake.  So with that I crawled out of bed and just relaxed at home while mom woke up.

We generally like to turn our shopping adventures to the outlet into an all day event.  On the hour journey north, we couldn’t decide on a restaurant so using trusty foursquare we found a Greek restaurant “The Grecian Plate”.  It was good but it wasn’t enough food for me.  It also wasn’t terribly expensive so I wasn’t too upset.

Before I divulge too much into my shopping adventure, it’s no secret I’m on a budget but I decided to treat myself to a day of shopping and not worry about it.  I work to enjoy and spend money that I earn occasionally and not feel guilty about it.  To give you a remote idea, it was more then I’ve spent in the last week then I have in the last month.  Oh well.

Some key purchases:

Immediately when I saw this romper at BCBG, I fell in love.  I knew it was going to bust my wallet but I also knew it would be a perfect date night outfit in Texas.

I also bought some new MAC makeup at the cosmetic company store.  I know some people don’t wear makeup…but I do and I like MAC.  It lasts a long time and for me that is also a splurge I take.

The other splurge I take is my biannual new wallet purchase from Fossil.  In January I treated myself to a fancy red wallet.  This time I decided to go with a nice tan leather wallet.

Real Life Updates

I feel like I’ve been doing a really good job (unintentionally) of keeping my personal life pretty much nonexistent on here.  Not that I mean too really, it’s just with working (insert broken record here) you don’t have as much of a personal life as you would like.

Last Friday I celebrated my 23rd birthday.  We went to a cute little Italian Bistro in Norfolk, VA called Filini’s.  It’s certainly a well hidden gem back there.  I ordered the (large…it’s interesting you could order either a small, medium or large salad) house salad with chicken.  The lady told me that  large was made for four people and go  for the medium which I guess for normal people it was.  It was 15 dollars and it made the LOLZ full which is saying a lot.  Not only was I full but overly stuffed and any restaurant that is a decent price and can fill me up automatically becomes a winner.  The photo doesn’t do it justice, but the tomatoes you see pictured are normal sized tomatoes and being sucked into the vortex of the middle of the salad.

We also got muscles beforehand which I really enjoyed too.

And of course, I had to test out their coffee which was good and was able to get a rare shot with mom.  It was a great birthday and I got some really nice gifts from my parents like running shoes, the Oiselle strappy bra and a really cute anchor bracelet that I had been lusting over for a while.

I got my hair styled by a friend of mine’s daughter.  Isn’t she just the cutest? (These are the things I do on my day off).

What else have I been up to the last two weeks since returning back?  In all honesty, not a whole heck of a lot.  I’ve been working like a mad women which that is a post in itself.  Altough I enjoy have a double paycheck right now and being able to afford things that I like, it has created a lot more stress then I really need.  I know it’s stressing me out and trying to find time for everything but luckily I still have some time to meet friends and see my family.  With pretending to pack for Texas, I have giant plate that probably doesn’t have all the best ingredients.  So that’s that.  I actually have a few life posts about stress and social anxiety that I want to type up soon.

How did you celebrate your last birthday?

Happy Birthday Mom

For mothers day, I wrote a post about how awesome my mom is.  It’s safe to say after living at home with her the last month I still feel the same way and she has been an open ear for all my current worries.

Today is her birthday.

Happy Birthday Mom!

You should go like her facebook page with her doll clothes.  She makes American Girl clothes (We literally have about 20 American Girl’s), baby gifts and blankets.  Basically she is amazing at sewing and I didn’t inherent any of that creativity.  I really tried though.

So that is my shameless blog sponsorship plug.  Since my mom currently sponsors me and I don’t live on the streets right now, it’s only right that I link her page for you to like.  I’m really good at linking things, but seriously  it would mean a lot if you did.

*EDIT: I think I fixed the link .  🙂

So with that…

Happy Birthday Mom.

My Mom is Awesome

I hope you know it’s Mother’s Day.

I feel my dad is often seen more on the blog because he does road races and is often in the cast of characters at race recaps.   You should know I am just as close with my mom as well.  My mom has been there for me 100% of the time and for that I cannot thank her enough.  Of course when I was younger, we had our fair share of rifts.  I was young, I thought I knew everything about anything.  (I mean…wait…I don’t?).  Everyone was a bratty at some points in middle and high school (me probably especially).

But since going to college, maturing a little bit and pretending to conquer the world I can truly say that I have become even closer with my mom and she has helped me through so much.

Like right now.  Being a college graduate, leaving my job in Oswego and she (and my dad) are welcoming me back into the house while I look for a new job and get on my feet.  I know for a fact that I am extremely lucky for this and not everyone would have that opportunity.

So thank you mom.

Kick Me Out of the Foodie Club

Do you what I realized, I haven’t been posting my nomtastic eats lately.  How can I begin to classify myself as a food blogger (actually true life: I’m not a foodie at all) if I never post about any sort of food.

But I do enjoy photos of my cat.

It was a day of interesting eats to say the least.  Remember the other day when I was getting my Thanksgiving on with sweet potato pancakes?

Now I am pretending (since it’s a little bit closer) that It’s Halloween and having pumpkin pancakes.  I finally was able to find more pumpkin at Farm Fresh.  I may or may not have hoarded a few cans.

Speaking of Farm Fresh, that is where I got my lunch today.  While yes, it is a grocery store (I mean you New Yorkers have Wegmans), Farm Fresh has the bomb.com salad bar.  One would think if I spent the same amount for this glorious salad as some fancy restaurant,  I could get away with having it for two meals.

Not the case for this girl.

I don’t get full on 3 spinach leaves okay thanks.

But it was the best salad in the whole wide world and I need to stop buying gas station coffee so I can buy 13 dollar salads.  I couldn’t tell you everything I added in here but I remember these from staring at the photo for a hot second:  it had a base of spinach leaves followed by corn, 3 bean salad, mozzarella cheese, feta cheese, ham, turkey, sun dried tomatoes, grapes, this weird stuff that looked good (and duh it was)….yes I could spend 10 blogs writing about how nomtastic it was.

I wanted to run and swim today but it started thundering so I had to settle with just running.  I took yesterday off from running and had an excellent ten miler today.

For dinner, mother and I went on a little date to a place called Joe’s Crab Shack.  It’s adorable and literally can fit about 10 people max inside.  I had a delicious bbq wrap.  I’m not really into bbq at all but it sounded and looked amazing on the menu.  There was corn, salsa, sour cream, bbq chicken, lettuce and tomato all wrapped up in a wrap.

Mom got a crab cake.  I guess that is kosher since it was called Joe’s Crab Shack.

Then for dessert, I got one of these bad boys.  Contrary to popular bloggatude, my favorite dessert is not ice-cream.  It’s bread pudding.  I haven’t had it in a while and this more than made up for it.

There are certain things in your life that just deserve a hell yeah.

PS: Thank you for your help yesterday, it seems the blogging world wants me to go with the short floral.  I was thinking 80s hooker style personally…
