Rudy’s Family Restaurant (Harrington, DE)

Rudy’s Family Restaurant (Harrington, DE)

On the way back to Virginia, I stopped at Rudy’s Family Restaurant in Harrington, De. I’ve wanted to stop there for years, but the timing never works out. It’s right off the road, so it’s an easy stop for anyone passing through.

Rudy's Family Restaurant (Harrington, DE)

Atmosphere: A
Rudy’s Family Restaurant is a lot bigger than it looks. Outside it’s a clean, modern building. Once you walk in the restaurant, it’s shiny, metallic, and every part of a diner that you would expect. There is even a kid’s party room if you want to host a party.

Coffee:  C
The coffee was ok, not great. There was nothing unique or unusual about it, but it wasn’t terrible either.

Food: B
Rudy’s Family Restaurant has everything a diner would have. There are plenty of breakfast options, lunch, and salad, as well as dinner specials. If you are passing through Harrington and need a spot that will please everyone, Rudy’s Family Restaurant is it.

I always appreciate a good greek appetizer and ordered the Greek Sampler. It was more of a Greek salad and as far as I could tell there was no difference in the Greek salad versus the Greek Sampler minus the Sampler had Gyro meat. It came with lettuce, tomato, feta cheese, gyro meat, pita bread, and grape leaves. The sampler was good but nothing unique or special. I would order it again.

For my entree, I decided to order the BLT, which was good.

It wasn’t “great,” but there was nothing terrible about it either. The french fries were crispy, which is how I like them.

Service: B
The waitress was friendly, but it took a while for our food to come out and then to receive a check.

Price: $
For my appetizer, coffee, and BLT, it was only $17. The BLT meal itself was $4.99.

Overall Thoughts/Summary:
I liked Rudy’s Family Restaurant, and it was an easy stop south. I would go back if the opportunity presents itself.

Cosmos Restaurant (Wilmington, DE)

Cosmos Restaurant (Wilmington, DE)

Last week, I went to Cosmos Diner and Restaurant in Wilmington, DE. Growing up in VA, there was a Cosmos Diner right down the road from us. As teenagers, we would love to go.  Long story short, they moved the entire building to a completely different state, and the diner no longer exists.  It has nothing to do with this Cosmos Restaurant, but it does give me nostalgia.

Atmosphere: B
When I arrived for lunch, it was busy, but I still managed to get a table. Sitting in the middle wasn’t my first choice, but when it’s busy, it’s busy. The outside is all cobblestone, while the inside has plenty of booths, tables, and a bar.

There wasn’t anything too unique, but it’s a big space with plenty of seating.

Coffee: A
The coffee was hot and fresh, and the whipped cream was homemade! I haven’t had homemade whipped cream in a while, so it was a pleasant and exciting treat.

Food: B
I wasn’t sure what I wanted to order but settled on the Greek Plate Appetizer and a breakfast sandwich.

The Greek Plate was good and came with Grilled Pita, Kalamata Olives, Cucumbers, Tomatoes, & Feta Cheese. It was served with fresh Tzatziki Sauce.

I was relatively disappointed with the breakfast BLT sandwich. While it was good, I hoped for more. Maybe a side? It just seemed boring with just the sandwich. It was a good sandwich but nothing too exciting.

Service: B
Our waitress was friendly, and our food came out fast. The issue was when we went to get the check; it took a long time. I needed to hit the road, but it took a while. In all, it was good service minus when I needed to leave.

Price: $$
For my appetizer, sandwich, and coffee, it was $25.

Overall Thoughts/Would I Come Back?
I liked Cosmos, and it’s a good stop for anyone passing through Wilmington or local. I would go back. I would probably order a lunch item next time.

Hollywood Grill (Wilmington)

Hollywood Grill (Wilmington)

Recently I was in Wilmington and decided to stop at the Hollywood Grill. It’s ranked as one of the best diners in Delaware, so I needed to stop at some point.

Atmosphere: B
The diner itself is located in a shopping center. There is plenty of parking, but it barely stands out on the main road located next to an IHOP.

The inside is that of a typical diner. There are plenty of tables, booths, and a full-length bar.

Coffee: B
The coffee was brewed hot and fresh, and there were plenty of refills. There was nothing unique or unusual, but it was good.

I arrived around brunch time so decided to order blueberry pancakes. When the pancakes came out, the pancakes were big and fluffy. There were delicious, and I couldn’t ask for better pancakes.  It also came with real maple syrup which is always a nice touch.

201: Chobani’s Diner and Restaurant (Pennsville)

201: Chobani’s Diner and Restaurant (Pennsville)

I know what you’re thinking, and the diner was not named after Chobani yogurt!  Just kidding.  While driving down to Charlottesville, VA last month I opted to go to Chobani’s Diner and Restaurant in Pennsville, NJ.  It’s about 10 minutes from the Delaware Memorial Bridge.  I hadn’t heard of Chobani’s until I made a stop at the Salem Oak Diner and saw it on my way.  All I thought was, YES another easy stop when going south (either to my hometown of Chesapeake, VA) or just south.

Atmosphere: B
Chobani’s is a well-maintained diner.  When you arrive, there are plenty of booths and tables.  They have plenty of desserts and do serve alcohol.  When I arrived, I was seated quickly.  There weren’t that many people in the restaurant.

Coffee: B
The coffee was good, but there was nothing unique or unusual.  The waitress refilled it once.  I could have used more, but it was probably better since I was on the road.

Chobanis Diner Salem NJ

Food: A
I wasn’t sure what to expect for Chobani’s because there isn’t a lot of information online.  I wouldn’t be surprised if they had 5 options to choose from or 10,000.  Chobani’s has a massive menu, and you won’t find anything missing.  Chobani’s has plenty of breakfast, lunch, and dinner options.  There are specials too.  There about 15 different salads to choose from if you want a healthier route.

Chobanis Diner Salem NJ

I decided to order a cheesesteak which came with fries and soup.  The cheesesteak was massive and had plenty of meat.  The french fries were excellent.  They weren’t great but not bad either.  Even though it was 95 degrees out, my chicken noodle soup was good as well.

Chobanis Diner Salem NJ

In all the food was good, and I would order it again.

Service: B

The waitress was extremely nice but the food took a lot longer to come to out than anticipated.  Since there weren’t many people in the restaurant, I expected it be a little faster.  Other than that, the waitress was friendly.

Cost: $
For my coffee and meal, the cost was $12.

Overall Thoughts/Would I Come Back?
I was pleasantly surprised with Chobani’s and liked it a lot.  If you’re looking for a quick stop near the Delaware Memorial Bridge, Chobani’s is a good one.

Healthy Kids 5k (20:01)

On Saturday, I ran the Healthy Kids 5k.  Last year, I ran a 20:13 and placed fourth female overall.  I had a great time last year and enjoyed the race.  My plans changed drastically last weekend, so I found myself with an open weekend and decided to go back and do it again.

I got to the race around 7:30 and it was hot.  Like most 5ks, I like to sign up race day. The temperature read 85 degrees, and I wondered why I was running.  I signed up and warmed up.  When the race started at 8:30 it was 91 degrees.

As with many local 5ks, I found myself boxed in behind young children.  They were weaving in and out, and I nearly tripped over one young female.  As the racers spread out, I found myself as the 6th person.  I hit the first mile in 6:20. It was 5 seconds faster than last week in hotter conditions.  My legs felt tired, and I felt overheated.  In summary, I didn’t feel good.

running 12

During the second mile, I grabbed water and poured it in myself. The wind was blowing off the riverfront, and I felt the wind against my sweat.  It was a combination of sweltering air and a slight breeze. It felt good.  I ran the second mile in 6:32. I was running alone, but it was fine.

I just wanted the last mile to be over. I was alone, and local 5ks don’t have a lot of spectators. I just focused on the end.  I caught one male and rounded a turn.  The third mile went into a nature persevere and a nice view of Wilmington.  There was a slight incline but nothing drastic.  I hit the third mile in 6:24. I was pleasantly surprised because I felt awful.

I crossed the finish line in 20:01.  I thought I had broke 20, but the results said 20:01.  I should have started in front of the kids I suppose. Oh well, it’s just a number and a few seconds don’t mean much.  I did, however, win opera tickets, so that was unique.  Last year I ran a 20:13 send was the fourth woman.  This year I ran a 20:01 and was the first female…you never can predict who will show up.

Running in Sports Bra

The race is 20 seconds faster than last week and on a hotter day, so it’s hard to complain about that.

I’m happy with my race and the improvement since last week.  I have no complaints, and I think in cooler weather I would probably be around 19:30.  I’m continuing to just rich on the bigger picture and finishing races injury free.  I’m not happy or sad about the race, I’m indifferent.  I finished injury free and that is all that matters right now.
