Walking Dunes Trail in Cape Henlopen State Park (Lewes Delaware)

While in Delaware, I wanted to check out Cape Henlopen State Park. It looked beautiful. With the exception of traveling through Delaware, I haven’t spent a lot time in Lewes, Rehobeth Beach, or Bethany Beach. I’ve heard Delaware State Parks are beautiful, so I’ve always wanted too. When the opportunity to visit Cape Henlopen State Park presented itself, I decided to go. Why not?

Walking Dunes Trail in Cape Henlopen State Park (Lewes Delaware)

The Walking Dunes Trail in Cape Henlopen State Park is a natural, flat trail. While there isn’t much elevation change, it’s a great option to walk your dogs, get outside, or relax. You don’t need hiking shoes or hiking boots.

Cape Henlopen State Park has several things to do, including the surf, fishing pier, hiking, cycling, or just relaxing at the beach.  There are also campsites and bunkers if you want to spend a few days there. Near the parking lot and trailhead for the Walking Dunes Trail, there is a seaside nature center and park office. Towards the Delaware Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, you can find a bait and tackle shop.

When we were down towards the shore, people were looking at horseshoe crabs.  Several loop trails are depending on the distance you want to go, but the Walking Dunes Trail was perfect for us.  We saw several people out too!

Plus, on the Walking Dune Trail, there is also Fort Miles, which is cool to see some historical sites.

In all, it was a great time.

Stargate Diner seaford DE salad
Stargate Diner (Seaford, De)

A few weeks ago, I stopped at the Stargate Diner. I’ve driven by the Stargate Diner in Seaford about 50 times going from New Jersey to Virginia. Located in Seaford, De, the Stargate Diner is an easy stop for anyone going down route 113.

Stargate Diner seaford DE

Atmosphere: C
The outside of the Stargate Diner has a large sign and is a modern building. It’s not an old metallic, shiny, diner, but it looks and appears clean.

The Stargate in Seaford has the typical feel of a small-town diner; there are plenty of booths, tables, and even a salad bar.

The bathrooms were out of service, and there was a sign that said: “Rotorooter on the way.” Had I desperately needed to go; I would have been forced to leave the restaurant and drive somewhere.

Coffee: B
The coffee was good, but nothing extraordinary.  It was hot and fresh.

Food: B
The Stargate Diner has everything a stereotypical small-town diner would have. From multiple breakfast, lunch, and dinner options, they have it all. They are known for comfort food like french toast, crab cakes, country fried chicken, sausage gravy, pork chops, or onion rings, but they have healthy options like salads or even turkey bacon. There were a few specials as well, but nothing that called my name.

Since I was on the road, I wasn’t in the mood for anything hot or too heavy and decided to order their greek salad with chicken. The Greek Salad itself was a decent size and had plenty of chicken, olives, grape leaves, and feta cheese. I didn’t love their homemade dressing, and it was so thick and salty. The salad itself was decent, and I would order it again, but I would choose a different dressing.

Service: A
The waiter was friendly, and my food came out fast. I was in and out in less than 30 minutes. Which is great, because my bladder would not have lasted much longer.

Cost: $
For my salad and coffee at the Stargate Diner, it was $11.

Overall Thoughts/Summary:
The food at the Stargate Diner wasn’t bad, but I don’t know if I would come back, due to the bathroom situation. Hopefully, they fixed that within the hour I left.

Rudy's Family Restaurant (Harrington, DE)
Rudy’s Family Restaurant (Harrington, DE)

On the way back to Virginia, I stopped at Rudy’s Family Restaurant in Harrington, De. I’ve wanted to stop there for years, but the timing never works out. It’s right off the road, so it’s an easy stop for anyone passing through.

Rudy's Family Restaurant (Harrington, DE)

Atmosphere: A
Rudy’s Family Restaurant is a lot bigger than it looks. Outside it’s a clean, modern building. Once you walk in the restaurant, it’s shiny, metallic, and every part of a diner that you would expect. There is even a kid’s party room if you want to host a party.

Rudy's Family Restaurant (Harrington, DE)

Coffee:  C
The coffee was ok, not great. There was nothing unique or unusual about it, but it wasn’t terrible either.

Food: B
Rudy’s Family Restaurant has everything a diner would have. There are plenty of breakfast options, lunch, and salad, as well as dinner specials. If you are passing through Harrington and need a spot that will please everyone, Rudy’s Family Restaurant is it.

I always appreciate a good greek appetizer and ordered the Greek Sampler. It was more of a Greek salad and as far as I could tell there was no difference in the Greek salad versus the Greek Sampler minus the Sampler had Gyro meat. It came with lettuce, tomato, feta cheese, gyro meat, pita bread, and grape leaves. The sampler was good but nothing unique or special. I would order it again.

Rudy's Family Restaurant (Harrington, DE)

For my entree, I decided to order the BLT, which was good.

It wasn’t “great,” but there was nothing terrible about it either. The french fries were crispy, which is how I like them.

The waitress was friendly, but it took a while for our food to come out and then to receive a check.

Price: $
For my appetizer, coffee, and BLT, it was only $17. The BLT meal itself was $4.99.

Overall Thoughts/Summary:
I liked Rudy’s Family Restaurant, and it was an easy stop south. I would go back if the opportunity presents itself.

Cosmos Diner (Wilmington, DE)

Cosmos Diner and Restaurant (Wilmington, DE)

Last week, I went to Cosmos Diner and Restaurant in Wilmington, DE. Growing up in VA, there was a Cosmos Diner right down the road from us. As teenagers, we would love to go.  Long story short, they moved the entire building to a completely different state, and the diner no longer exists.  It has nothing to do with this Cosmos Restaurant, but it does give me nostalgia.

Cosmos Diner (Wilmington) Atmosphere: B
When I arrived for lunch at Cosmos Diner (Wilmington), it was busy, but I still managed to get a table. Sitting in the middle wasn’t my first choice, but when it’s busy, it’s busy. The outside Cosmos Diner (Wilmington) is all cobblestone, while the inside has plenty of booths, tables, and a bar.

Cosmos Restaurant wilmington De

There wasn’t anything too unique about Cosmos Diner (Wilmington), but it’s a big space with plenty of seating.

Cosmos Diner (Wilmington) Coffee: A
The coffee was hot and fresh, and the whipped cream was homemade! I haven’t had homemade whipped cream in a while, so it was a pleasant and exciting treat.

Cosmos Diner (Wilmington) Food: B
The Cosmos Diner menu has everything you expect from a diner with a little greek flare.  I wasn’t sure what I wanted to order but settled on the Greek Plate Appetizer and a breakfast sandwich.

The Greek Plate was good and came with Grilled Pita, Kalamata Olives, Cucumbers, Tomatoes, & Feta Cheese. It was served with fresh Tzatziki Sauce.

I was relatively disappointed with the breakfast BLT sandwich at Cosmos Diner (Wilmington). While it was good, I hoped for more. Maybe a side? It just seemed boring with just the sandwich. It was a good sandwich but nothing too exciting.

Cosmos Diner (Wilmington) Service: B
Our waitress at Cosmos Diner (Wilmington) was friendly, and our food came out fast. The issue was when we went to get the check; it took a long time. I needed to hit the road, but it took a while. In all, it was good service minus when I needed to leave.

Cosmos Diner (Wilmington) Price: $$
For my appetizer, sandwich, and coffee, it was $25.

Overall Thoughts/Would I Come Back to Cosmos Diner (Wilmington)?
I liked Cosmos Diner (Wilmington), and it’s a good stop for anyone passing through Wilmington or local. I would go back. I would probably order a lunch item next time.

Hollywood Grill (Wilmington)

Hollywood Grill (Wilmington, De)

Recently I was in Wilmington, De and decided to stop at the Hollywood Grill. It’s ranked as one of the best diners in Delaware, so I needed to stop at some point.  It’s located directly off the highway in a large shopping center. So it might take a second to get too, but it’s well worth it, plus since it’s located in a shopping center there is plenty of parking.

Hollywood Grill (Wilmington, De) Atmosphere: B
The Hollywood Grill itself is located in a shopping center. There is plenty of parking, but it barely stands out on the main road located next to an IHOP.

The inside is that of a typical diner. There are plenty of tables, booths, and a full-length bar.  It’s bright, shiny, and has a big waiting area in front. (Which was nice so we didn’t have to wait outdoors).

Hollywood Grill (Wilmington, De) Coffee: B
The coffee was brewed hot and fresh, and there were plenty of refills. There was nothing unique or unusual, but it was good.

The Hollywood Grill menu has everything you could want in a diner. There are plenty of breakfast, lunch, and dinner options.  They have the greasy spoon eggs and healthy salads.  They are well known for their great food, large portions and greek salad.

I arrived to the Hollywood Grill around brunch time so I decided to order blueberry pancakes. When the pancakes came out, the pancakes were big and fluffy. There were delicious, and I couldn’t ask for better pancakes.  It also came with real maple syrup, which is always a nice touch.
