A Survey and Training

Despite the power outage this week, I had a solid week of training.

Monday: 13.1 around
Tuesday: 10.7
Wednesday: 10.7
Thursday: OFF
Friday: 11.11
Saturday: Independence 10k (6:40 pace)
Sunday: 10.7
Total:  66


I felt good throughout the week. Last Sunday I took a rest day.  I felt great on Monday and ran longer than expected. It was the furthest I have run since the Shamrock Half Marathon!  That run was my favorite and most enjoyable of the training week. I felt good and everything went smoothly. My rest of the week felt good as well.

I also added a few fartleks and various 15 second speed bursts into each run. Last week I had informal speed work such as fartleks and fast finishes. Depending on my schedule, I might try and go to the track sometime soon!

On Saturday I ran the Independence Day 10k.  Cliff notes: I took the race out to fast and paid the price.  It was still fun and I had a great time with friends.

Next week:

I plan to add a few more fartleks and fast finishes. I feel my legs starting to get more comfortable with running and informal speed work. I haven’t felt this strong since January when I was in the depth of marathon training. It’s time to focus on more speed and get back into races.

Other then that it was an uneventful week!


I haven’t filled out a running survey in a while and it made sense to add it to my Sunday training log! Instead of doing a lengthy training post for the week, I thought I would fill out a lengthy survey.

Would you rather run along a beach path or on a mountain trail?

I would rather run on a mountain trail.  I enjoy hill work. Running on the beach or in the mountains will make you sore…so pick your poison.

If you could choose the flavor of gatorade at your next race’s aid stations, what would it be?

I like strawberry, raspberry or kiwi. 

If I gave you a $100 gift card to a running store, what would be the first thing that you would purchase with it?

I don’t know because I work at a local running store. I would probably donate it or give it away.

Do you prefer to follow a training plan or wake up and decide then how far and how fast you want to run?

I normally have a rough idea of what I want to do each week but I don’t follow an exact training plan.

Would you rather start your run with the uphill and end on the downhill or start your run with the downhill and end with the uphill?

I would rather start downhill and end uphill.  It takes me a few miles to warm up and my body is not ready to run uphill out the door.

When you can’t run, what type of cross-training do you choose to do?

Hashtag ellipical for life.  I can mindlessly creep on twitter and watch trashy TV.


What is your preference—>  Out and back, point to point or loop runs?

I feel like out and back runs go by faster!  That being said I don’t have a personal preference.

If you could recommend ANY running related item to a new runner, it would be a—>

A good pair of shoes. That’s all you need to run.

Do you ever see any wild animals while out on your runs?

Since I went to college in the Upstate, NY I have seen a lot of different animals.  I’ve seen bears, turkeys, turtles, dangerous dogs and cats, raccoons, geese (the worst). I’m sure I’ve seen more that I can’t remember.

Ever gotten lost while out on a run?

I have gotten lost several times.  If you haven’t gotten lost, I’m really impressed.

If you could have one meal waiting and ready for you each time you got home from a run for the next 30 days… what would that meal be?

I’m a morning runner. If the meal is magically waiting for me, than omelets.  Every time I try and cook eggs they become scrambled.

Capris or shorts… what do you run in most often?

Shorts!  I own one pair of capris but I normally just lounge in them.

At what mile (or how many minutes) into your run does your body start to feel like it is warming up and ready to go?

20-30 minutes

What do you do with your key when you run?

I leave it in my house or I hold it.

If you could relive any race that you have done in the past, which one what it be?

The Nike Women’s Half Marathon.

What type of run is your least favorite type of run?

The kind that I’m injured.

What has been your biggest motivation lately to get out the door to get your run on?

The motivation to try and stay consistent this summer.

When you go for a run, do you leave right from your front door or do you drive somewhere to start?

I like to leave from my front door.  In five out of six of my weekly runs, I leave from my front door.

When running in daylight—>  are sunglasses a must or an annoyance?

I think I have run with sunglasses a total of 5 times in my life.

When you get tired, what keeps you from quitting?

I’m normally not home.  So if I quit…I’m awkwardly standing there instead of being home.

Random Life Answers.

I like to learn more about a person outside of blogging, athletics and food.   While I’ll never remember what your favorite color is, I do think providing insight on what you do outside the internet, working out and work is highly fascinating-to me anyways.  I’m always nosy about other people’s lives (isn’t that why we read other people’s blogs?).

I like trashy tv as well as a mix of reality tv.  I don’t watch a lot of tv but when I do it’s most likely these shows.  Once the new season of Beyond Scared Straight comes back, I’ll be watching that too.

What states have you traveled too?

The states I’ve lived in are marked in blue and the states I’ve traveled in/through are marked in gold.  This doesn’t include quick layovers in airports.  My dad was in the Navy, so we did a lot of traveling (and living overseas too) when I was younger.  I wish I could travel more now and experience that.  A lot of these are just from 2013 funny enough (I moved 4 times in

What is something on your bucket list?

This question was actually pretty difficult.  I’ve never made a formal bucket list before.  I don’t want to use the cliché “go skydiving” or “travel the world”.  I would like to do something that puts me way out of my comfort zone.  Something that tests me physically, mentally, and emotionally…what that is, I don’t know.  I know I eventually will.

Where is one place in the world you want to travel?

I would like to go back to England and Germany.  I was young when we lived in England but I would love to go back.  I want to travel to Australia at some point in my life too.

What is something you like to treat yourself with?

I try to treat myself monthly with something around $100.  That could be a nice new hair cut, new clothing, a new purse I’ve been eying up…whatever.  It’s never anything I absolutely need.  This month I really want to get my hair cut.

Do I have enough hair probably not.

Do I have enough hair products…no probably not.

Who is your best friend?

That is really tricky for me.  I would have four woman that I consider myself best friends with.  In fact, I need to finish my bridesmaids gifts this week so I can send them out and ask them to be party of my wedding party.  Thanks for reminding me random blogging question I’m answering.

A Fun Survey..

I don’t know the last time I did survey.  Thank you to teammate Rachel and also Kinetic Fix (and possibly some more people?) for tagging me in the Liebster survey award.  I always find it rather interesting to find out more about other bloggers.  I’m normally just a little bit too lazy to post it myself.

How did you choose your blog name?

A long time ago (2012), my was called lolzthatswim(andrun)…then I quit swimming so instead of being a dirty liar I became fueled by lolz.  LOLZthatswim sounded really awkward and looked worse.  Not that fueledbylolz doesn’t sound weird but it stuck.  I am always laughing and smiling and don’t really know how to fuel myself otherwise…
What is your favorite thing to write about?

I enjoy writing about running.  I know I’m incomprehensible at times but I do enjoy writing about things that interest me…whether it’s (currently) running, lolz, real life or pretending to plan a wedding.  I don’t have an exact topic that interests me the most which is probably why my posts are Russian Roulette and you never really know what you’ll get.
Why did you start blogging?

I wanted to chronicle my life as a college student who swam and just started a new journey with running. I didn’t know what to expect with running and just wanted to post and being able to look back and reflect.  I wanted to be able to look back and see what I did (or stopped doing I guess).  I began this blog as a college swimmer and am now a post collegiate engaged runner.

What kind of workout makes you feel the best after it is all over?

Any race makes me feel good (when it’s done) and I have yet to find a workout that does the same thing.
What has been your proudest racing memory/moment?

I think winning the Plattsburgh half marathon in 2012.  It was the first time I’ve ever won a half marathon and also the first race I can say I truly exceeded all expectations I had.  I went from a 1:33 half marathon to a 1:27.

Why did you start running/triathlons?

For a long sleeve tshirt.  I highlighted that here.
What is your “A” race or biggest fitness goal for 2014?

I have two A goals.  One was to PR in the half marathon (which I did at Atlantic City).

The other is to redeem myself and run an awesome full marathon.
Name 5 songs on your iPod?

I don’t ever use an ipod and just use my pandora on my phone. I will tell you I love top 40 music and grimey rap music.  Generally any mainstream rap and pop is good for me.  I also like Fleetwood Mac and a few other bands for lounging around.  When it comes to running, I enjoy rap and pop.
What is your favorite race and why?

My favorite race would have to be Shamrock in VA Beach.  Although it is pretty expensive, they have a great afterparty and the cost (in my opinion) is really worth it.  They treat you well.  I would 100% recommend the Shamrock race series to anyone.  This isn’t my favorite because of my times or personal races but how well it’s put together.  I would have to say that Atlantic City half marathon does a similarly good job.

If you could give your 16-year old self a piece of advice, what would it be?

Life is not going to be streamlined.  That high school boyfriend you had is probably not true love.  Follow your heart and live in the moment.  Nothing you do in the next 5+ years is set in stone and never take a single moment for granted.  Enjoy each moment and don’t be afraid to take risks.  It’s okay to change your mind.  It’s okay to try and then fail.  It’s okay to try, be successful and brag.  Be humble. There is always someone better than you.  You are not perfect and never will be. Your family is always by your side.  Life changes.  Life moves on.  Above all others won’t be happy for you if you aren’t happy for yourself.

How long do you take for a real life event to happen to announce it on the blog?

Imagine that sometimes I don’t even put real world events on the blog…I went to work without blogging about it.  I went on a date without blogging about…generally I would prefer to tell all of those involved, wait a few days to let it simmer and then announce it.  But I never really have big announcements anyways?  My life isn’t that exciting.

A LOLZ blog.  Running, somewhat healthy living, coffee, pancakes and lolz…

I don’t really care.  Just kidding, I think that a healthy living blogging is someone who chooses to eat and live in a healthy lifestyle.  I consider myself a healthy living blogger.   

How often do you blog?

Mostly every day.  If I need a break then I take one…if I don’t need a break…I don’t take one.  I like to schedule posts at 8am because I am a morning person so I assume everyone else waits at 7:59 to get a post.

Why do you blog?

I blog because I truly enjoy it.  I enjoy the people I have met through blogging and I enjoy being able to bounce ideas of others and listen to peoples advice that have credentials to give it to me.  I don’t solely blog for myself…otherwise I’d write in a diary or Microsoft word.  If you tell me you “blog solely for yourself and no one else” well take a week and only type posts into Microsoft word.

Pet Peeve: What isn’t my pet peeve.  Currently my biggest pet peeve for blogging is stop agreeing and telling me that is exactly what you do on my blog…Only to post that you don’t do that all.  For example: I love that you post normal foods Hollie, that’s all I eat.  My WIAW: paleo protein pancakes made out of almond meal with chia seeds (I don’t think you can order those at a restaurant).  If plain pancakes aren’t your thing…don’t worry about it.  I won’t judge you, but I will for posting bullshit. FYI: if you agree with this and are a culprit…I’ll probably call you out on it.
