August training
August came and went. I felt like I was logging my first race back at the end of July and now the end of August is here. After being injured since essentially May, I can say August was my best month so far. I ran, raced and continued to build my base.
Total miles: 234
Range of Paces: 6:20-12:00-untimed
Rest Days: 5
Longest Run: 12.67 miles
Shortest Run: 1 mile
Races:
Donor Dash 5k (20:21)
Healthy Kids 5k (20:01)
Sunrise Serenity 5k (20:14)
Workouts: 2
2×6 mile tempos (average pace 7:16, 6:54)
Both tempos went well. The first felt like I was dusting off the cobwebs.
A week later, I did a second tempo which seemed to go much better.
Favorite Run:
I really enjoyed a 3 mile run I did from Flying Fish Brewery. It was great to catch up with my friends as well as enjoy the Brewery.
Thoughts:
In July, I mentioned I plan to build my base which I did. I ran when appropriate and rested when I needed. I began to build consistency. I’m pleased with how the month went and I feel like despite the heat, my body responded well to the mileage.
Goals for September:
My plans for September is to continue increasing mileage and add a speed workout weekly. I have a few races this month including RNR Va Beach and the Flying Fish 5k. The RNR half will be a test for my foot. In an optimal world, I would like to finish injury free and have no aches and pains afterwords. The race itself is extremely hot and humid so I’m not looking for a PR (not that I’m in that sort of shape). It’s hard to make any goals after an injury but
