Don’t Leave Me Home Alone

I think my father secretly likes being referred to as the daddykins on the blog.  It makes him feel so famous.  I think he also gets tired of me rambling off about my blog in true life but I’m wearing real girl clothing so there is only so much I can do.

Hmm, Thursday was a big day for me.  I became-Hollie-ultra domesticated female.  I did some baking (peanut butter cookies), cleaning, and even laundry.

I really do believe if I wasn’t so sassy, I could just go major in professional housewife blogging, running, swimming woman.  I feel that is a pretty standard degree at most colleges.

I’m glad you guys enjoy the new header.  I actually hated the other one but never got around to changing it.  It is my summery and joyous, kinda ,like me.  Now I suppose I can look at my own blog once in a while (like déjà voo?).

————–

Today was not too exciting of a day sadly.  I made a waffle before heading off to the pool which is where I spent the majority of my day.

I'm not sure why my blueberry jam looks redish. Either way it was still nomtastic.

I hate eating on the run but when I do 99% of the time, it is a tuna fish sandwich.  It’s kinda like my staple lunch at the moment.  Between helping new guards and eating, I managed to get a tempo run of 8 miles in there somewhere.  VA weather was glorious today as it wasn’t too humid or hot.

I do feel the need to share with you the most delicious dinner that I made last night.  I got it of all places off the back of the cheese package.  I’m kinda in love with cheese with mozzarella, cheddar and feta and parmesan being my favorites.  Oh wait-crumbly bleu cheese.  No and goat cheese.

Okay yes-cheese is good.

Anywho without further ado (and you know all my recipes take cerca de 15 minutes or less to prepare…).

Ingredients:

2 cups cooked pasta

½ pound Italian sausage

1 package spinach leaves

1 can diced tomatoes

1 cup mozzarella cheese

Optional:

2 tablespoons parmesan cheese

Mass amounts of garlic

Directions:

  1. Crumble sausage into large deep skillet and cook on medium heat for 10-12 minutes.  Stir occasionally.
  2. Drain sausage then add spinach and tomatoes and cook until spinach has wilted.
  3. Add in the cook pasta followed by cheese and garlic.
  4. Then eat (99% of it like I did…actually my brothers were home, I can’t take all the credit)

Questions for you:

  1. 1.       Staple lunch?
  2. 2.       What are your plans this weekend? (Are you racing?)

Blerg-I’m doing a triathlon.  I”m more nervous then god knows what but we can chit chat about that tomorrow.  Oh and aDuBs is doing a 5k so go wish her luck.

Swim Meet and Giant Jellos

Hello hello. In case I hadn’t talked about it enough, my parents came up this weekend (and yes that is a 12 hour drive). I’m super close with my family so this always is my favorite part of the Winterm, when they visit. Anywho, we met at a locals favorite-Sergis for dinner. An Italian restaurant, it was perfect for fueling me for my swim meet today. The one we went to was is the neighboring town and didn’t have my favorite dish gnocchi (they have slightly different menus oh boo) so I got stuffed shells. It was really good though, so I’ not complaining.

For breakfast today, I made Matt (my brother and I) not only pancakes but eggs too. What can I say; I was craving some eggs as well. I normally don’t break the yolks making over easy eggs but it due to my lack of eggs lately, I broke a couple. Oh well-over hard eggs aren’t bad either.

I had one of these jello snacks after the meet. The sugar free ones have 125 calories and 10 grams of protein. Can you tell why I’m obsessed?

My meet today wasn’t awful. I am so runned down from swimming; I wasn’t expecting to get good times. In fact, I’m glad I finished the 1000 and 500. Ha. We are in our heaviest training period and this is always my (along with the teams) worst meet. We have put in the time but our bodies haven’t caught up yet. Next week’s double meets will be just as rough but we taper down on the 29th and our championship is on the 9-12th. I would just love to be around the same times at championships.

People pay millions for my art you know..

The other L fell off awe. :(

My secret psych new I was a bar whore!

But look at my meet schedule for Friday and Saturday because this is going to be hella fun. My races are as followed:

Friday:
Mile (1650)
500 free
200 butterfly
Saturday
1000 free
500 free

I’m hoping he’ll take me out of the 200 butterfly. I’m sure I can lead a convincing argument.

Did I mention we were doing secret psyches today? That is when you randomly draw someone’s name out of a hat and decorate their locker and pump them up. I got Alyssa, my classmate. We have been on the team together for three years and she is also a member of one of the sororities so I wanted to go with that theme. She is crazy and super sweet and we actually lived together for a few weeks my sophomore year. (I had personal problems and ended up moving into a single…).

Anyways, I thought I was rather clever incorporating an owl, her sorority’s mascot into the posters.

After the meet, my parents and I went to Lobster House to eat. I got the grilled pineapple mahi mahi. I forgot my camera though, sadly. We split an oreo cheesecake but I only had a few bites because I was so full.

I found this photo on my camera, I miss my dog oh boo.

Well I’m off to Lake Placid in the morning with my parents. Hosted the 1980 Olympics ya know.

Question for you:
How do you get over bad races? Do you eat your heart out? Cry? Just accept it? Complain like it’s your job?

I have pretty much just accepted this isn’t my best season and I hope next year will treat me better. I try and just think next season will be better.

Jazzy Java Cakes

While at home I have come to realize that I barely drink coffee. Only because I don’t like instant and my dad took his coffee maker to work (boo). So I must live without it or go to the gas station. Which is more appealing…gee I wonder.  I guess I could pay 4 dollars everyday and go to Starbucks.  Well-I drink 32 ounces which is 8 dollars of coffee everyday.  That is 48 dollars I can spend on clothing.

For breakfast today I made Jazzy Java Cakes. (Yes-I have been wanting to make coffee flavored pancakes just so I can use that name).

This is my basic recipe for pancakes:

1/2 cup flour

1/4 egg substitute 1 egg

1/2 cup water/milk 1/2 cup strongly brewed coffee

1 tsp baking powder

1 scoop protein powder

Are you feeling jazzy?

I added about 1 cup of coffee though. That made the pancakes a bit too thin for my liking (more crepey). I just got overzealous with the coffee I guess you could say.  Anywho-I’ll make these again in the near future and just add between 1/2 cup and 1 cup and decide how it goes from there.  Yes that is chocolate sauce and vanilla yogurt topping.  I thought it was appropriate.

I went for a short 5.5 mile run to get my legs into shape for tomorrows 10k race.  I’m not expecting to do the best because I’m deep into swim season now (and not running a lot) but I want to at least break 45 minutes.

For lunch I was just going to have a power bar and go swim, but my mom decided to spontaneously ask me if I wanted to go to Quiznos.  How could I say no?  So I agreed and we went.  I had a steak bistro melt and in my trying new things mood, I went with the mesquite chicken.  My mom had two veggie flatbread sammies that I’m going to get next time.  YUMMY!

I also went swimming today.  To answer your questions, we are only allowed to go on break if we do the workouts.  How does coach know we did the workouts?  Well…taking a week off swimming your ass better be able to do sprints the day we get back and make your target time. Otherwise you get two weeks of doubles or until you can make those target times.

Then I rushed home to get ready for my date with Anna and my parents.  We went to a Greek restaurant; I wish I could have gotten a good picture of it.  The restaurant is shaped as a giant castle.  I had Athenian pasta with gyro meat.  I had never had gyro meat and oh boy was it tasty.  The Athenian pasta was buttered pasta with lots of feta cheese.  I love cheese and butter on my pasta and not many restaurants serve it.  Needless to say I may go here to carb load more often.

Anna and I also went shopping but all I really found that I wanted was more peanut flour and coffee.  I need new jeans so badly but I couldn’t find any that fit well.  I also saw a juicy couture laptop bag at TJ Maxx hint hint (Aram if you are ready this ha-ha.  :P )

Anna and I must go to bed soon.  She is spending the night and we have our Turkey Trot tomorrow morning.  10k of pure joy.

What are you doing for Thanksgiving?  Are there any Turkey Trots in your area?

Isn't this the cutest Christmas Ornament ever?

A Strange Day Indeed

Before I get into the meat of today’s blog, I must say I do agree with what the majority of people commented yesterday about Aram’s hair.  I do like the shorter better; I have always had a thing for men that clean up well.  Since it is Arams last semester at school before he goes into the world of business, he cut it nice and short.  It’s better than our big swim meet last year, when all the boys shaved off all their hair.  (Before they cut it off they dyed it blonde!)

—————————–

Today before morning practice I had a nature valley chocolate chip granola bar.  It was okay, but not my favorite by any standards and it did not hold me over the entire practice.  Swimming when hungry at 7 am is not an enjoyable experience.

I came back and made…

A waffle!  I used the Krissy’s Nutcake recipe and without pumpkin again and made a nice light and fluffy waffle. Peanut Butter dark chocolate.

This leads me to my question, pancakes, waffles and crepes are essentially made of the same ingredients.  Which do you prefer?

I tend to think of waffles as pancakes with enlarged syrup traps.  But I just enjoy pancakes better.

Then it was off to class class class.  Today I had a test in educational psychology.  You may have noticed I haven’t been rambling on too much about that class-the fact is…I ENJOY IT NOW!  Well-not today we had a test.  But I have really taken an interest to the teacher and his teaching.  It can be a bit dry sometimes-but what class can’t be?  Especially coming from a math background hehe.

I had the best flatbread sandwich today at the dining hall.  It had roast beef, turkey, American cheese, spinach, tomatoes, banana peppers and crushed red peppers.  I must say, the lady did a mean job making it and I would compare it to Quiznos.

Today I looked up plane tickets for Thanksgiving break.  They are over 400 dollars!  From NY to VA.  You can get international flights at that cost.  I might end up driving home.  I need to make a list of all the benefits to keep myself sane.

1.        It takes 12 hours from school to my house.
2.       My last plane ride took 11.5 with driving to the airport and everything- 30 minutes less time than driving the entire distance home.
3.       300-400 dollars for a plane ticket.  150-200 for gas.  I could find someone to ride with me to Binghamton and could pay gas money if I was that desperate.  I would rather just have someone to ride with, not for them to pay.
4.       Very lonely drive ew.
5.       I have never driven more than 2 hours by myself.  I followed my dad to school but he was still in the car in front of me.
I think I’m going to drive.

Then after that discovery, it was time to run.  Aram joined me on my run today.  I ran 2.5 miles then picked him up and we ran another 6.5.  It was actually rather pleasant since I never get anyone to run with.  I have to give him a lot of credit because I’m sure he will be very tired tomorrow.

We went off to get pasta for my big cross country race on Saturday.  The race is five hours away ick.

The locals favorite here is a little restaurant called Sergis.

It is just as important to “carb load,” if not more important two nights before the race.  So there I was eating my gnocchi.  Gnocchi is a potato pasta and delicious.  I had mine in Marinara sauce and with grilled chicken.  I love the restaurant Sergis-it is just so slow.  It is one of Aram’s favorite restaurants .  He always gets cheese pizza and I always steal a slice.

Then off to Wal-Mart.  I needed to fill my prescriptions and get a few random things.

I don’t have too much on my plate tonight.  Just finishing up more math homework.  It has been overpowering my life lately boo.  :(

What I did not eat today:

1. pancakes

2. pumpkin

A strange day indeed.

Best Friend Date Time and Trader Joes!

I had been waiting for this evening all weekend. Best friend time! My best friend, Anna, goes to CNU which is about 30 minutes away from my house so luckily I got to see her this break. I will get to see her Thanksgiving too and she is doing the Turkey Trot 10k with me! Anna has been my closest friend since middle school.  We met at another mutual friends birthday party in the 6th grade.  She thought I was the strangest and most weird child she had ever met.  Somehow we just clicked and have been friends ever since.  But in all honesty, I still am the strangest person you will ever meet ha.

We first began our date at Olive Garden. I had not been here in ages so boy was I excited! I got the minestrone soup, along with the Shrimp & Crab Tortelli Romana. I was honestly not a fan of the Shrimp and Crab Tortelli like I thought I would be. It was good, but it wasn’t as good as other things I could have ordered. I think I just wasn’t a fan of the sauce. That is okay-it’s Anna’s favorite restaurant so I’ll make her go to the diner with me next time hehe.

Then we headed towards the mall. While shopping today, I got some cute bearclaw slippers, a new headband and a cute party top. I’m really excited with these purchases because they aren’t workout clothes! You will see photos because I’ll wear them on the airplane Tuesday. I will be that girl.

I also saw this bumper sticker for the Hilton Head. HH are my initials so I got pretty excited ha.

To end our evening we stopped at Trader Joes! YES! I have been waiting to go here all weekend. No one understands how separated I feel from the world without it. I only picked a few things since I am heading back to school on Tuesday, Greek yogurt of course and some peanut flour. I have heard great things about Peanut Flour so please post your favorite recipes. They gave me a new bag because I was so overzealous to be there. :)

Tomorrow I have a lot of doctor’s appointments (half the reason I came home) along with going to get new running shoes. I think I’m going to get a pair of Newton Running Shoes but we will see.

I forgot my workouts hehe.

80 minutes running with father this morning. Nice and slow recovery.
