Hoka Skyflow Shoe Review

Advertisements

I was excited to try the Hoka Skyflow. I’m already a huge fan of the Hoka Skyward X Hoka has been doing great things over the past few years, and I can’t really think of a shoe I’m not a fan of lately.

While Hoka entered the super-cushioned category a bit later than competitors (crazy because most of their trainers already feature a good amount of cushion), they’ve taken the time to develop an energetic, lightweight foam. The Skyflow feels similar to the Bondi but lighter. I like to think of it as the Bondi’s faster and lighter cousin.

Hoka Skyflow Quick Facts

Hoka Skyflow Upper and Fit

The upper is constructed from engineered Creel Jacquard mesh, providing a soft, slightly stretchy, and supportive feel. It’s more designed for comfort as opposed to the Mach 6’s performance-oriented upper. Immediately when I put on the Hoka Skyflow, it felt good. Some have complained that Hoka’s shoes have gotten too narrow, but the Skyflow is on the wider side.

Breathability has been great in the summer heat. That’s essential for me in the Mojave Desert summer. I refuse to run in shoes that make my feet feel hot.

The best uppers disappear off your feet, and I haven’t had an issue with the Hoka Skyflow. The thick tongue is well-padded, offering excellent lockdown without being overly plush. The toe box is spacious, especially for a Hoka shoe, with some give in the mesh and a soft toe bumper. Some complain that the heel is too high, but I haven’t had any issues with it.

In running shoes, I typically wear between a women’s size 10-11 wide. I’ve found the women’s size 11 to be the best fit. I think this is one of the better-fitting Hoka models.

Midsole

The Hoka Skyflow is a modern max-cushion trainer featuring Hoka’s first supercritical foam at an accessible price point. It’s interesting because just looking at the shoe, you wouldn’t guess it’s a max trainer from Hoka. You’d think there are plenty of other shoes that are considered a max trainer. The midsole is composed of soft, energetic supercritical EVA foam.

When I first put the Hoka Skyflow on, I was unsure I would like it. It felt super soft. I’m talking way too soft for my usual preference—I prefer some sort of responsiveness. But once I started running in it, I realized I did like it. Without the carbon plate, this is one of the softest trainers I’ve tried.

Where does the Hoka Skyflow fit into my rotation? It’s a great daily max trainer. I do a lot of my easy runs in it, but I also do runs where I may want to pick up the pace. For faster runs, I prefer a lighter and faster shoe, but the Hoka Skyflow can handle most daily runs.

Outsole

The Skyflow’s outsole features a good amount of rubber coverage, particularly at the heel. I’ve used it on sandy trails as well as in inclement weather with no signs of slipping. Plus, the upper dries pretty quickly, so you don’t have to worry about it feeling super heavy in bad weather. It’s definitely not a “trail running shoe,” but it can handle easier and less technical trails with no issues.

I’ve already put about 100 miles on the Hoka Skyflow with no signs of it slowing down. I think it will last the full 400 miles.

Hoka Skyflow Conclusion

I’m a huge fan of the Hoka Skyflow, and it’s a great daily trainer. I haven’t had any issues with it, but I can see how someone might find it too soft for their own needs. If you’re looking for a lighter and faster version of the Bondi, consider the Hoka Skyflow. Hoka has really stepped up in their game in late 2024 and 2025 and I’m looking forward to seeing what else they have created.
