April Training Log:

Another month down…again. April was a busy life month for me. Somehow I managed to fit in most of my runs (not all but most).

Miles Run: 332

Range of Paces: 6:07-19:30-untimed

Workouts: 7

Shortest Run: 2 miles

Longest Run: 13.6 miles (The Folsom Lake Trail Half Marathon)

Thoughts:

April even brought about a race! I didn’t think I would have the opportunity to race while living in Napa. A lot of things are still closed, which means that there aren’t opportunities to race. The opportunity to race the Folsom Lake Half Marathon popped up, and I decided to run.

The course itself was technical but not too many hills or steep terrain. It was mostly just avoiding rocks and stones.

The rest of the month was uneventful. I’ve still been able to run workouts. As many people know, I’m not an afternoon runner; in fact, I hate running in the PM. For a while, that was my only opportunity to run. Whenever I run outdoors, it never “gets old,” and I’m always proud of myself for doing it. This was no exception.

My favorite run of maybe my entire life was at Emerald Bay in Lake Tahoe. If you are ever in the area, I highly suggest it.

Despite being a running blogger, my training has been uneventful and quiet lately.

That is probably because there aren’t really any races for me to train for. As much as I enjoyed the trail race, I would much rather run a road race (yes, I said it!). I’m looking forward to when those come back to California. I’ve thought about getting a coach once races resume again. Right now, it seems silly to have a coach without anything to train for.

Next Month?

Next month begins the cleaning and move down south to Edwards AFB. I can’t say I’m overly excited to move again (it’s roughly 400 miles away). I’ve enjoyed my time in Napa, and it’s been hard to come to terms with we are leaving. (You can read: I am not dealing with it well). So in the next 30 days, I’ll be getting ready to move, and I might have a trip to Texas.

I know Edwards will be fine, but big moves twice in a year are not my favorite. (Gives me memories of 2014 and before New Jersey).

Anyway, I’ve wondered if these training logs are pointless during the pandemic and just in general. It’s fun to look back at my month of training, but I’ve wondered, does anyone really care?
