Saucony has put a lot of money into created good trail shoes, including the Saucony Peregrine 11. The Peregrine is designed as a jack of all trades trail shoe. You can run far or long as well as up mountains or grassy fields. It will do everything well, but nothing perfect. If you need a good trail shoe, the Saucony Peregrine 11 is a great option.

Saucony Peregrine 11 Intro:
If you’ve never run in the Peregrine, it’s a neutral running shoe designed for trails. There is plenty of cushion and traction, plus Saucony has created a great deal of protection. It’s designed as the jack of all trades trail shoe. If you are new to trails, unsure what you need, or want a shoe that handles everything, the Peregrine is a great option.
The big update to the Saucony Peregrine 11 is the new upper. The upper is more durable and protective.
Saucony Peregrine 11 Fit:
The Saucony Peregrine 11 fits almost like a performance-oriented shoe. It feels secure in the midfoot but not constricting. There is no sliding on the back heel. I find the fit of trail shoes to be even more important. When you’re climbing a mountain or running technical downhill, you don’t want a trail shoe to slide around.
The toebox in the Saucony Peregrine 11 is wider, but the Peregrine is also one of the few trail shoes that come in wide!
I wear between a size 10-11 wide in most Saucony shoes. The Peregrine 11 10.5 in regular width feels good. One thing to note is that Saucony shoes all have lower backs. You won’t run out of the shoe, but for some people, it feels like they are slipping. It’s often hard to fit orthotics in as well.
Saucony Peregrine 11 Ride:
How does the Saucony Peregrine 11 perform? The more trial running I do, the more I realize how much I hate a clunky trail shoe. I’ve retired more bulky shoes to become hiking shoes because I can’t pick up my feet on a run. Sometimes, if a shoe is “too bulky,” I’m more likely to fall. This isn’t about me, though.
This Peregrine version is the second version that uses Saucony’s PWRRUN midsole cushioning. The PWWRUN cushioning makes it soft and energetic. It almost feels like a road shoe with lugs that keep you from falling. Speaking of the outsole, the Saucony Peregrine 11 6 mm directional lugs are made from a sticky rubber compound. This makes the Peregrine have a lot of traction for minimal weight, plus it sheds water and mud easily.
The Saucony Peregrine 11 feet light on your feet but cushioned. It doesn’t inhibit anything, and I feel as though I’m able to run any sort of terrain thrown my way. I’ve done trail runs up mountains, on technical uphill and downhill, and a few runs that have road crossing. It seems to handle all of them well. I like the midsole cushioning of the Saucony Peregrine 11 includes a flexible rock plate.
I think the Saucony Peregrine 11 is a great first trail shoe or a trail shoe that you want to do everything in. I think for an ultra-marathon, you might want something with more cushion. Since I’m not running over 14 miles right now, it handles everything I’m doing well.
Saucony Peregrine 11 Conclusion:
The Peregrine is a great option for someone who wants a jack of all trades trail shoe. It will conquer muddy trails, steep inclines, or anything in between. It’s become a go-to shoe for me. I’m not sure which trail shoe I like better, the Hoka Torrent 2 or the Saucony Peregrine 11. Both are lightweight trail options that can handle plenty of different terrain. Probably two of the most similar shoes on the trail running market right now (but both are extremely good).
The last thing to note is the Peregrine is available in several different options, including Goretex (waterproof), Ice, and of course, wides. There aren’t very many trail shoes with all of these options. If you have a wider foot, the Peregrine is a trail shoe to definitely consider. Even if you don’t have a wide foot, it’s a shoe to consider. It’s one of my favorite trail shoes in 2021.

What is your favorite trail shoe?
I’d like to give these a try. Last version I tried was the isofit which was super comfy but (for me) had really poor lockdown and heel slip that kinda negated having such aggressive tread. That said, I thought they were great for long distances or easy days on smooth trails but then the outsole was just comical.
Did you tie it to the back eyelet? That usually helps with slippage. I know Saucony has had issues with ISO so I think they are getting rid of it in most of their shoes moving forward.
Wow those are pink! I like your explanation of what’s different with the 11. I recently got a pair of 10’s and wish I’d gotten a wide, but they’ve held up well on the extremely muddy trails I tried them out on. I want to say they shed mud and water better than my salomon speedcrosses, which are usually my go-to for messy conditions.
I do like their ability to shed mud quickly. I always say…when in doubt get a wide LOL.
