Batter Up Pancakes (Fresno)

While in Fresno, I heard Batter Up Pancakes had the “best pancakes around.”  I cannot count the number of diners I’ve been to that have said “best pancakes,” and don’t get me started on diners that are the “best anything.” Anyway, I heard they had the best pancakes around, so I decided to stop.

Batter Up Pancakes (Fresno) grand slam

Batter Up Pancakes Atmosphere: A
Batter Up Pancakes was packed when I got there. With social distancing, I was worried about how that would work, but their wait was long. Tables were spaced out, employees wearing masks, and everything was safe. It was just busy. I can tell this is where a lot of people come.

Batter Up Pancakes Coffee: X
I didn’t order coffee this go around because it was so hot outside. I know I’ve been slacking with diner coffee lately,, but I haven’t been in the mood with the hot weather.

Batter Up Pancakes Food: A
The Batter Up Pancakes menu has more pancake options than almost anywhere I’ve been. I find pancakes to be one of the riskiest orders at a diner, period. You never know if they’ll be flat and dinky or big and fluffy. I’ve had both. When they are good, they are delicious. But you take the risk of them being “really bad.”

Batter Up Pancakes (Fresno) cinnamon roll

The pancake mix at Batter Up Pancakes is made from rich buttermilk and uses pure vanilla extract and butter.  Batter Up Pancakes claims they rise slowly on the grill and take from 6-7 minutes.

While Batter Up Pancakes is known for its pancakes, they have regular diner options like eggs and omelets and even lunch options like salads and sandwiches. So if you aren’t in a pancake mood, you have choices too.  You can see the full menu here.

Finally, I have to mention their “Grand Slam Challenge”. The Challenge is a 25-Fluid oz. Old Fashion buttermilk pancake topped with a 10-egg scramble, 2 cups of country potatoes &1 cup of cheddar & Jack cheeses. Plus your choice of 4 toppings. When it’s not a challenge is feeds 4-6 people. If you finish in 45 minutes without getting sick, you get your money back, a t-shirt, a coffee mug, and your photo on the wall! (This seems like a college town type of thing because my college town had something similar).

Anyway, I decided to order 3 cinnamon roll pancakes, and I was not disappointed. The cinnamon roll pancakes tasted like a cinnamon roll, and they even had the same cream cheese frosting. I joked it was BYOF or bring your own frosting. While I never make a claim, the best the cinnamon roll pancakes were some of the best I’ve had!

Batter Up Pancakes Service: A
The honest at Batter Up Pancakes was friendly, and everyone was wearing their masks appropriately. I felt comfortable that Batter Up Pancakes was taking the pandemic seriously. Even when they were extremely busy, they didn’t waiver and had limited seating and practiced social distancing.

Cost: $

For 3 of the cinnamon roll pancakes, it was $18.99. Most people could make it 2 or even 3 meals.

Overall Thoughts/Would I Come Back?
I liked Batter Up Pancakes, and I’ll definitely be back at some point. The pancakes are some of the best I’ve had.
