UCAN Energy Bar Review

Generation UCAN

Recently I started using a few UCAN Products while both running and cycling. One of my favorite products from UCAN is their new UCAN Energy bars, which I used during my 30k hike last weekend.

Generation UCAN

What is UCAN? Another fueling company?

I actually learned that UCAN dropped the “Generation” and they are just known as UCAN.

Why UCAN Energy Bars?

UCAN Energy Bars are the only brand that use SuperStarch, which allows for long-lasting energy and sustains sugar levels.

What is UCAN SuperStarch?

UCAN SuperStarch was initially developed to aid an infant with a rare metabolic disorder that the body didn’t produce glucose on its own.  The infant was always in life-threatening danger with hypoglycemia.

Research showed that SuperStarch helps manage blood sugar levels better than other carbohydrate sources by slowly delivering glucose over time into the bloodstream.

The slow releasing carbohydrates in SuperStarch don’t cause highs or lows in blood sugar.  According to UCAN, this steady energy keeps you fueled longer and performing at your best.

Long-Lasting Energy?

With the SuperStarch,  UCAN Energy Bars have 10 grams of carbohydrates. There are no energy spikes or crashes. I’ve found with many energy drinks, gels, and bar products, I have energy, and then I don’t…and when I don’t, it leads to a crash and headache. I don’t have that with the UCAN.

Do UCAN Bars Taste Good?

While maybe taste is not the “most important” part of the UCAN product, it does play a role. We want our fuel to taste good.

The UCAN Energy Bars come in Several Flavors:

  • Salted Peanut Butter
  • Chocolate Almond Butter
  • Chocolate
  • Coffee
  • Cinnamon
  • Chocolate Peanut Butter

I haven’t tried every flavor, but the flavors I’ve had have been great and easily digestible. I don’t feel like I’m forcing myself to eat them, and the Chocolate Almond Butter is my favorite. I’ve been having one before my bike rides or sometimes before a run. As I mentioned, I also used them during my 30k hike with no issue. The UCAN Energy Bars themselves are smooth and chewy.

I’ve found the UCAN Bars to sit in my stomach well and haven’t had any stomach issues or unwanted stops. Plus, I have plenty of energy for a run,

If you have a sensitive stomach or are looking for something to consume before a run or ride, the UCAN Energy Bars are good options for that.

  1. Great review. I really love their energy bars. My favorite was peach but they don’t offer that flavor anymore. I agree with you, they hold me over for a long time and I use them whenever I know I am not going to have a chance to get a snack (lots of meetings, travel, etc).
