Injury Week 7: I Ran (Healthy Again)!

As I continue the “injury comeback”, so far so good. I’ve mentioned, this is the first stress fracture I’ve come back from that hasn’t had residual pain when beginning to run again. Usually when I come back from a stress fracture nothing feels great. I have small aches and pains from soft tissue.

While this time, I still feel out of shape, I don’t feel any deep aches or pains. I credit not doing much for about 3 weeks since the gyms were closed.

Once I’m “in the clear” of an injury (which will probably be about 6 more weeks), I’ll stop blogging about training. I’ve moved to Strava because it’s just easier.

Injury Timeline:

March 1: Calceaneaous Stress Fracture Occurs (Known as the Heel Bone)

Week 1: (March 2-8): Boot, slight pain, and swelling, allowed to swim

Week 2: (March 9-15): Boot, minimal pain, minor swelling, allowed to swim

Week 3: (March 16-22): Boot, no pain or swelling, gyms closed, and almost 0 activity

Week 4: (March 23-29): Boot, no pain, added core

Week 5: (March 30th-April 5): Boot removed, no pain, core, and leisurely walks

Week 6: (April 6th-April 12th): easy walks, 1.5-mile walk-run, core

Week 7: (April 13-April 19): 1.5-2 mile walk-runs, core (Total Walk-Run miles 13)

Week 8: (April 20-26) 2-3 mile walk-runs, core

Thoughts:

With my walk-running, I’ve also been adding afternoon walks. My plan is to just get my body used to the movement again. Plus, my schedule has been work from 4:30 am-7 am. Run (15-20 minutes), work 8-1 pm and then walk (as kind of an end to my work day). Walking at the end of the day has kept me from going “stir crazy” and it’s been nice to just enjoy outside more. Once I begin running more mileage, I’ll decrease the walks and my days might shift.

I’ve also been doing short core work since I have the time. This is a rare time, I do have extra time so saying: “I don’t have time for work and strength” is invalid.  truthfully, I’ve been enjoying it too!

As far as life goes, many of people have asked: “when do you think you’ll move” and truthfully I have no idea right now. The world is uncharted territory and it could be anytime from May-December. We will have about 2 weeks notice before the movers come. I’m not anxious about it since there is not much anyone can do but wait. The world is waiting.
