Workouts: Running and Hiking

Continuing with the trend, last week was also busy.  I was able to get a few runs both inside and outside. For the most part, I felt good.  It’s not like I’m training for anything, so any run feels okay right now.

Plus, I’m actually enjoying running on the Alter-G.

Monday: 3 mile run+10 mile hike
Tuesday: OFF
Wednesday: 45 minutes Alter-G Treadmill/Core
Thursday: 60 minutes Alter-G Treadmill
Friday: 4 miles outside/Core
Saturday: OFF
Sunday: 6 miles outside/Core

In all everything felt good.

Last Monday, my husband and I went hiking in Northwest NJ.  We hiked 10 miles from the base and then around Sunfish Pond.  That is definitely one of our favorite hikes in New Jersey, and I definitely recommend it to anyone. Last year I wrote about hiking Sunfish pond as well as seeing a bear up there.  We didn’t see any bears this time.hiking sunfish pond tim and i

As you can see, there isn’t a lot of rhyme or reason to my training right now.  I run when I have time.  I try and get outside when possible, but when it’s too hot, I prefer to run on the Alter-G.

Next week, I actually have a few days off.  My husband and I plan to hike more in both New Jersey and Southern New York.  I will probably run a bit, but with hiking, I don’t feel the need to do both.  If you have any recommendations of trails to hit up, I would love to hear them!

  1. I LOVE hiking (more than running actually, haha) but I don’t do it as often as I should! there are so many great places to go near here in Virginia, I need to get out there more!

  2. Love hiking! Unfortunately, it’s way too hot to hike here for the next few months, but I can’t wait to pick it back up again in the fall!

  3. It’s great to take a break once in awhile. I have been observing (while marathon training!) and have been learning vicariously that after it’s over, I may need to take a little break. Your hike looks fab – glad you didn’t see any bears.

  4. I definitely run better in the cold, but it doesn’t get cold in Charleston really. Our winters are gorgeous and perfect for running. I don’t blame you to run on the Alter-G instead of outside especially if you can’t run early or late in the day. The heat is something serious and there’s nothing wrong with working out indoors or taking some down time. Glad that you and Tim got to go hiking too because I know you’re both busy with work a lot!

  5. So lucky! I love hiking./walking in the woods/on trails too. There are several good spots here near Boston that are legal off-leash dog places (I know you had a bad experience with a dog and I’m sorry but mine is only interested in hunting squirrels). Anyway, I never knew about these fabulous woods near me and never would have except for having a dog. My only issue is that I HATE bugs. I want to get one of those very not-so-cool hats with netting around them or something. Enjoy the hiking! Great pics.
